That was a great tip on the fan Mike! In the past, I would have thrown it away before the bearings seized. I won't forget this video. Also, the Scott's spreader quick tip was valuable. I don’t know if this trick or tip would have worked in your spreader situation but I have used a hose clamp or wire tie depending on the strength needs to hold the hub together. You are right Mr. Know it All we are a Throw Away Society, if we knew how to maintain our stuff we would not be throwing it away. Quick question how often do you have to lubricate the electric motor to keep it going forever?

Hello Kevin, if everyone did this to every one of their electric motors from their air conditioning condenser motor to the blower motors in their vehicle every 3 years they wouldn't be replacing a motor ever. I have a Box fan from the early 70's and I looked for the oil hole and all I found was a little rubber hose coming out the back of the motor not sure what it is

So I have multiple window air conditioners that have a noisy motor. A very noisy motor. I've opened them to find the motor is completely sealed. No vents, no oil ports. Any suggestions? They are extremely difficult to remove from the air conditioner frame. Where the shaft exits the motor there is a rubber bushing which I thought I could oil behind it. I pried it up and put oil behind it but there was no change in noise. I can't see what's behind the seal. Very frustrating as we have only had the air conditioner for a little over a year.

If you absolutely cannot see a way to get to the motor, you are out of luck my friend, some can't be accessed. But I can tell you this, because I am a tightwad, I would find a way to get to them. I'm not saying you didn't stop the rattling but.....I wish you would have laid the motor flat on the bench as you did before oiling when you tested it after oiling. Comparing apples to apples is what I mean.
