You can also reset the remote by pressing the input button and volume down for 5 seconds. That’s the only thing that worked for me

My issue is that volume down doesn't work. But volume up works. My remote is set on auto but now only works if I set it to IR to Receiver only. But it was working fine for months on auto and all of a sudden it stopped. I already reset the remote 😐

Maybe try holding the input button (button above the volume up button) and the volume down button for 5 secs.

No idea what’s with this Apple TV. It’s the latest one here too,basically bought it for my mother but didn’t even start on her Toshiba TV ,so I stated using it on mine. My TV is an android TV so is not like I really need it I have it linked to my Apple account already ,but anywho is a bit more responsive so why not,I guess . At the start my volume buttons actually worked . Hell ,on my mother’s TV despite not connecting at all the volume button somehow worked too 😮. But then, when I sent a YT video to my TV from my iPhone ,not only doesn’t detect the Apple TV as an option but the original Android TV,kicks into Android mode and kicked my remote out. Had to pair my Siri Remote again after that ,but the volume buttons stooped working ,lol.

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. My appletv worked to control my tv and sound bar right out of the box. Now for some reason it won’t control either of them. It’s so frustrating.

Have you been able to figure it out? Mine did the same, was fine for a while and then the volume and mute stopped working. Nothing I do will fix it. No idea what changed.

Mine just randomly started doing this last week.. it only turn up the volume if you use the TV remote control not the Apple remote control for me? I’ve had an Apple TV for years and never any problems and this just happened out of nowhere 🤷‍♂️ i’ve gone through all the settings on my TV and the Apple TV and still nothing works everything is updated also. It’s not that big of a deal but it just makes no sense how it randomly started?

This still doesn’t work for me. I have a Hisense 2021 4k UHD TV. With a 4k 64gb apple tv and it is so buggy. Hisense remote doesnt work with the learn new remote

This didn’t work for me. Tried swapping out HDMI cables, but no luck either. Finally was able to fix it just by unplugging the Apple TV for a couple minutes then plugging it back in .

Your video helped me realized I was doing the wrong thing. For those using a sound bar or surround systems, use that control remove NOT the TV. I was using the TV remote but I have the audio turned off on that one since I use the sound bar. Merry Christmas to me! Hahaha. Thanks dude!

It wont turn on the tv if you turn off the power even if cec is on because this remote does not have ir signal. However, if the tv is on standby instead and ur cec ks on, the tv will turn on.

Yea it can be aggravating. Check out the pinned comment which could possibly help reset the remote.

I can conclude what is the cause.. 1) When I first bought the APple TV 4k (2nd gen) it works 2) Then I tried doing the "test HDMI" 3) Then around that time.. the volume button is F-ed.. because I quit half way 4) after turning off everythging (including the power plug) 5) The "learn new remot" is back to auto and it still works. So inclusion I believe is wad I did to the HDMI cable.

My apple tv 4k remote used to control my soundbar volume and then it randomly stopped working. I deleted and relearned the remote using the soundbar remote but it still won't work.The only thing that worked for me was holding down the input and volume down buttons at the same time for 5 seconds then waiting 15 or so seconds for the remote to repair to the Apple Tv

Thank you so much for this! I’ve had Apple TV since the original 4 came out and just today my volume up/down stopped working. Now I had to jump some hoops since the volume button on my TV Remote is worn out, but I managed to use your instructions and use the channel up/down buttons on the TV remote instead and then just manually set the Apple TV setting to TV via IR afterwards. Works like a charm :)

And second, in order for you to turn on and turn off your TV you need to have an Earc hdmi on ur TV. Make sure it is connected to that connection and not another one. If you have done that reply to me and I'll help you figure it out

I have the opposite problem ha! I can turn the tv on but when I turn the Apple TV off the tv won’t turn off! I have an HDMI 2.0 connected to the arc.

@@joegarcia5585 I'm not a 100% sure but I believe to be able to control ur TV you need to have a Earc connection. Arc will not cut it. I could be wrong tho
