Sir, you are a legend. I lost a fry this morning. Poor little thing was sucked up to the inlet of the filter. I wanted to change it to a sponge filter I had in the drawer but didn’t have another pump. Then I remembered that the pump I was using on the next tank along (I’ve got 9 tanks) had a double outlet, but only one was in use. I connected the sponge filter to the other port and nothing happened. So I started searching air pumps on Amazon and eBay and thought, NO ! There must be a reason WHY it doesn’t work. Now you’ve shown me that reason. Thank you so much. I’ve saved 12 quid and it will save little fry lives in the future ❤😊

I saw some KZbinr dry silicon adhesive (used for making aquarium) dry between glass and polycarbonate rectangles. Then cutting valves out of this silicon film. He claimed success.

Thanks Ricky. I was actually looking for a fix after my pump died due to water ingress. No sign of damage inside. However, your look into the plunger assembly was very informative. How about a warning to the more forgetful about disconnecting the power supply first?

WOW, At first I thought this was crazy, Rick, works just like the day I bought it not I've only got 3 more double pumps to go.

Those are made from latex. You can get a latex balloon or go by a dental office and get some dental dam. This is the same material people use to make turkey calls. I'm going to try some nitrile glove material to see how it works and to see if it's more durable. Thank you for sharing 🍺 🎣

Great idea! Let me know how it went

@@RickyRanchu actually I used a black latex party balloon🎈 and it worked GREAT. Everybody is SOLD OUT of nitrile gloves currently, so I went to Dollar Tree for the black balloons. 🤣

The valves are made of latex, latex suffers less fatigue than rubber as rubber dries out and cracks when very thin.

Good video! Do you just glue the plastic down? Or what did you use to keep it attached?
@RickyRanchu6 жыл бұрын
No glue. Just lay it down flat.

I just got lost from 2:22,GOT no clue where the rubber piece was exactly how and where to put the plastic piece. Please reply if possible. Many thanks

I agree. Although I do like the quality of the film, too much is left out. I had to play back previous sections over and over to compare the view. Not sure why the maker of this video didn't show how he laid down the piece, how he put the rubber piece in. Another video that I saw the poster showed everything, but it was all out of focus. This one was well lit, in focus, just missing some key steps. Thanks for posting the video though.

It's not about saving a few bucks, more importantly keep the plastic and metal out of the landfill.

Mine doesn't even make any noise or movement at all.. what can it be??
@tracemiller15192 жыл бұрын
So mine is still blowing air on both sides but one is stronger then the other and bubbles aren’t coming through at all. The one I have is less then 6 months old and I have no receipt so I probably won’t be able to get the warranty on it. Already have a claim with tetra for a second GLO light replacement so I don’t wanna ask them for this too 🤣
@RickyRanchu2 жыл бұрын
Haha. Yeah they don't make them durable like they use to. Pretty much every air pump in those big box stores will have issues. I bought a really old one years ago that thing still works better than every other air pump I have.
@tracemiller15192 жыл бұрын
@@RickyRanchu yea not to mention the glo light is the 3rd one I’ve got from them in 4 months because they keep shitting the bed, I have 6 of those tetra whispers and the newest one shit the bed for some reason. I hope they don’t all stop working eventually

Can you put a piece of tape instead plastic???
@RickyRanchu5 жыл бұрын
I would say you can only if you fold the sticky parts on itself. You would want to make sure that the sticky part of the tape is covered an not sticking to anything. That being said I have never used tape before. You could probably use anything as long as the flap opens and closes.

Yeah. I'm honestly not a fan of these pumps. They seem to always break after a year or 2
@tsns14 жыл бұрын
Great vid, i thought the rubber diaphragm (rubber half circle) produced the O2, the petroleum in your zip bag plastic with the oscillation will soon cause a break down in your fix, try doubling a con-wAit NO, Form-a-Gasket form an auto parts store, Goop, having the cord bit off by a Lap Lander, a parachute not opening~ thats the way you want your pump to go 🦸♂️
