Thanks so much to you, Dean, for doing this. Appreciate so much being able to learn from a long-experienced expert like yourself, aided by Corey's great approach to broadening aquarium education to everyone. Please can you guys address how best to calculate what kind/power level of air pump when setting up a fish wall/fishroom? Always good to leave room for some growth, but then there's other considerations such as wear on the pump, etc. Thanks again!

New aquarist: Loved this! I am making a fish wall and this helped answer all the questions I had. Short story..My husband built a set of stairs for his mother to get in and out of our above ground pool. We sold the pool and he recycled the stairs into a plant shelf/planter table for his mom but she didn't like the height. Soooo in I walk with my project for him to build me a fish rack to hold twelve 10 gallon tanks and he briefly mentioned the plant shelf/planter table outside and how perfect it would be but it is only two shelves and 8 feet long instead of the three shelves high. After looking at the monstrosity sitting outside under our patio realized it was actually perfect for my project because it was not tall but long (great for us shorties), built to support a tank and not talking about aquariums but the army kind. I think I can actually fit more tanks if I wanted and already has a built in air pump shelf. Win-win!

LOVE THIS! Am in the beginning stages of converting our old dining room into a fish room (coralling many of the aquariums scattered through our house). Saw a video of Rachel O'Leary's airline setup, but this goes into more detail and will save me a bit more money--so long as I can track down those Ziss valves at a reasonable price here in Canada. I'd love to learn more about this, Dean & Corey, especially how to judge just how powerful of an air pump I should pick up. For now, looking at seting up 2x 20 gallon tanks, 1x 25 gallon, 1x 30 gallon, and 1x 38 gallon (a mishmash, I know), and add in several ten gallon tanks down the road. Rachel's video made me realize I'll have to figure depth of the aquariums, and not just guess from the gallonage I'm dealing with, but not sure how to go about doing the calculations. I certainly want to get rid of the mishmash of cheap, small rated air pumps I've got now, and go for a central system, or maybe a bunch of the great little SILENT USB air pumps (thanks again for highlighting those, Corey! Wish I could buy them direct from you, though happy enough you've got Easy Green available to us northern neighbours, now).

Great Instruction and Dean is so relaxed in his tutoring. If you could give us more of an idea on what style air pumps you would use for these systems that would be great. I have done a similar set up in my room running 24 tanks and I found that I had to go to a much large pump, but the good news was that it was only one pump and not a lot of noise. Thanks Dean and Cory.....Good job!!!!

I would really like to learn about pump size requirements for "X" number of filters (various sizes for various sized tanks) and how to figure out what pump you need to purchase. Does hose length/distance matter (I know that sounds suggestive...let's keep on track with aquariums shall we lol)

I just recently did this closed loop system on my rack and without this video that broke it down, I would still be running several air pumps instead of the one. i have to say, I’m thrilled with this system! It’s limitless! I’m already dreaming up expansions because I have to take advantage of this air pump that’s not taxed at all by what I have so I have to expand! My next project is a 100g tank, I hope, with some new plants I havent tried yet and, of course, new fish! Thanks Dean and Cory for breaking it down easy. 😍.

I would have never thought to build a manifold like that... I've been joining air line together with tee's and putting a valve in line with the filter at each tank. For what it's worth, I have a Whisper 40 running 6x10 Gallons and I feel like I could maybe push it to 8. I'll have to give this a try!

MikeJ H you could actually push the end of the airline tubing on the inside over a smaller tube or a cut off piece of a T or a valve. This way the tubing would be thicker on the inside stopping it from being pulled out.
@el3g3le3 жыл бұрын
Or push the tubing farther in, use a small zip tie to snug it, and pull the excess slack back out.

I live in southern California where there are plenty of places to get drip irrigation parts. Off of a single 1/2 inch pvc stem riser you can attach an outlet manifold which contains up to 6 or 8 adjustable outlets. Fairly simple.

How do we gage what size of air pump to use for length of the overall system or amount of valves we use? Not sure which affects the airflow more...

Bigger is better, but just guesstimate, like depends on how many systems yous running, but you can always lower/raise the flow w the valves.
