How to fix bad injector seal in injector seat

In this video you will learn how to fix bad injector seal in injector seat in 2012 RENAULT Megane with 1.9 DCI 130 engine. With this video step by step video you can do it yourself! To remove the injector if you’re lucky with a bit of perseverance. Wiggling the injector back and forth left and right you’ll be able to free it up and then simply remove it. Unfortunately more than likely as you move on to the other injectors you’ll find some that stick in place and you have to take other measures in order to free them up, the best way it’s to use SLIDE HAMMER.

Hi Thanks for the informative video. I suspect my Audi TDI is also suffering the same problem. Before getting it sorted during the current pandemic, would it be safe to continue driving for short distances e.g. 2 miles to the garage to get it thoroughly checked? I'm a bit worried about the diesel fume emitted from the broken seal that may be flammable and combustible. Thanks!

I have both exhaust gasses and oil coming out a 2005 Nissan Xtrail 2.2 dCi. We know the copper washer is bad and upper rubber gasket bad, but why oil also?

this is the best tutorial I watched so far, and the only one with cutting a new seal seat. The process is pretty much the same for all common rail engines. The idea of blowing the chamber with compressed air through glow plug hole is genius! I also saw people cutting a new seal seat on the injector side as well. what do you think about that?

Hi there, In my opinion it is not needed. Injector body end it's hard enough and it does not deform that easily. You can clean it from carbon deposits with metal wire brush. Regards :)

Wow! Masterclass. (Don't like the 'music', though.) Could actually see the metal shavings flying out which proves these things are not just for removing carbon on the seat. On another video the guy said they are not for removing metal! I complained that his video was misnamed 'cutting injector seat' and he said that's what the tools are called, 'cutters' on the box. But you've just proved him wrong. So, I have an ancient (60?yrs) mono cylinder Hatz on an ancient dumper (which is started by pulling a cord wound around a pulley.) Well, I wanted to put a new nozzle in. The copper washer was stuck -- I think it was oversized and stuck against the sides. I thought it was wrong to leave it in even if I put a new one on top. Got it out by gingerly using a narrow carpenters ' chisel. But I nicked the base/seat. Glued emery paper to the end of dowels and rotated slowly. But I think since the dowels weren't a perfect size the seat may not be perfectly flat. Could this tool do the job? Would I need two washers (they're quite thick). Do you not need any lubricant when cutting? Thank you!

Thank you for this video! I have a question. Is it important to clean everything up around the base of the injector? I changed the seals, removed the hard coal around, bit I did not clean all brown traces, spots of fuel and oil. Is this bad?

My smax 2.2 d Had new injectors starting leaking 2 weeks later.. Re sealed still leaking Was told the head needs to be replaced but nothing wrong with the head any ideas?

Very good video, I have same problem with engine smell in cabin, I cleaned EGR valve and still had the issue. I looked at this video and I looked at my injector to see mine is also leaking. Is it important to cut a new seal seat? Thanks again appreciated 👍

Hi there ;) Inside injector seat you will have a lot of carbon deposits. Also surface might not be straight enough to seal properly. If you cut the seat you remove the carbon deposits and make surface flat again. It will provide long lasting efect. I'm recomendig to do it. Best Regards ;)

Where do you get the nice cutting tools to flatten the seat? Mine is leaking and I don’t have the special tools. I think a poor mans method is to carefully push a ear plug into the injector hole then clean the seat with Emory cloth glued to the head of a bolt. Then vacuum out the debris and use a hooked pin to pull the ear plug from the hole. I dint have the right tools to pressurize the chamber through the glow plug hole. Great video.

My garage is charging €125 per seal x4 and €250 labour, is this a fair price as the I can get the seals for €5 each so he is making €120 per seal on top of the labour if I am right

Hi just removed mine and the seal was bad. However on the head there seems to be a 1mm-1.5mm dip. With the seat cutter is there a limit to how much you can take off?

Why is this so common on modern diesels' i'm retired diesel fitter did a few bedford Tk injector seals a few on perkins engines but a rare thing to do unless changing injectors ....................

this failure is due to the common rail design the injectors are not screwed in like the old diesel but held by clamp pressure and a copper washer used as a seal being a soft metal it will eventually fail ;-)
