HOW TO FIX BATTERY FAULT IN FIRE ALARM PANEL ?

I attended a service call due to a battery low (voltage) fault. What is the reason and solution to fix the problem?

Hi Sir. Elmer, maybe during the design stage the magnetic lock current was not included in the battery calculation.

True. But magnets must not be included in the normal power supply of the fire system. It should have it's separate power supply. Either with back-up batteries or not.

thank you for the video. How did you find a magnet door was the problem? is it common failure or based on your experience? if you didn't know, how would you troubleshoot in general?

Fire system auto battery test once a day (old system) or once a week (new model). For old system, it's an hour test. Any magnet or external power devices cause the battery to depleted earlier. In this site, it's only the magnet that causing it. From the day I introduced a new power source for the magnet, the problem never re-occur.

Does the system need to be shut down to replace the batteries? Or can be done while running on mains power?

No need to shutdown. Power should always be ON.

I am not familiar with zeta. But the trick is all fire supply fault are the same - Battery Missing, Battery Fault, Blown Fuse, Battey Flat ( just replace it!), Low Battery Voltage, No Power Output or Input, Output voltage is too low ( Normally output is between 26.1 - 27.4 volts DC). Good Luck

Flat batteries. Mostly cause of system that is running on batteries most of the time due to power blackout. Once a battery reached it's low voltage threshold - it's hard to charge using the fire alarm system battery charger. Best to charge it using an external charger. Another is, the system is in auto battery test every day. Once a week is okay for 30 mins only based on program setting. If it failed in 30 mins, your system requirement is bigger than the battery can supply. That's the time you sort out which equipment should not be included in the normal battery test and should be separated from the fire system. These are magnet door holders mostly.

Replacing batteries are very basic. When replacing, make sure you have your normal power "ON". Once you removed one terminal, it will fault buzz and just acknowledge it to clear the noise. Just do make sure you got the correct polarity.

@@crisdeorbz8986 ..correct. Never remove a battery with MAIN POWER OFF cause your battery is the back-up power source.
