I have had this "little problem" in my 11 years old BMW 520 touring, for almost 2 years now. What I do is to activate the starting key and then push the start bottom for a few secs, before starting the engine. Most of the time it works, otherwise I'd start the car, drive for 300-400 meters, and then I'd stop, turn off the engine then start again and the symbol with "the car on the bridge" and the "error" (red Triangle) symbol disappear- that as often as 99/100 of the times.

I would have the 520 scanned by a bmw scantool, even you local shops have these and you could buy them for about 200-500 dollars.

I unplugged my phone charger and it went off! So It’s best using phone charger only when driving then? I use to keep phone charger plugged all the time!

If you still get that increased battery discharge warning after putting in new battery that has been properly programmed, the culprit CAN ALSO BE the FRM Module aka Footwell Module

How would you confirm this? I had a dodgy FRM but I think it was damaged as a result of the low battery in the first place. Now my new battery is draining too. I did have the FRM reprogrammed but I don't know if it has been programmed properly as I remember reading an error message on my diagnostic.

@@salimsheikh2580 since that happened to me a year ago, I eventually had to have my FRM REPLACED ENTIRELY BY BMW, BMW also paid for it because it was a RECALLED part on certain Bimmers of certain years and models. They did not exactly notify me of this recall but rather waited for me to start bringing the car in when it acted up. You might want to check with your local BMW dealer, give them the year and model of your car and ask to see if the FRM has been recalled or needs to be replaced. I had to wait 2 fuckin months for mine because apparently, I wasn’t the only one having this problem as there was a wait list and the part had to be ordered and shipped directly from the German factory. At the time they were backlogged on this. Hope you find your solution.

I had to jump start my X5 because I left the lights on now I keep having to set the time?? It’s starts great every time I turn the car off and start it back up no problem. But I keep having to set the time, did I damage the ibs on the battery??

@@pulvxdI had to replace the battery and get it registered in the end. In the end I think I will keep the battery and just throw it on a trickle charger.

Sergio, The IBS (intelligent Battery Sensor) is sensing a draw. Unplug all phone chargers and that doesn't help, reset the cars memory by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. Thanks for the info. After I installed LED’s in the interior of my 5 series I got the message when I finished. I turned the car off immediately and then turned it back on after a couple seconds and the message hasn’t reappeared. Should I be worried? Thanks. (2014 5 series)

It could be that the LEDs didn't have resistors to emulate the resistance of the bulbs they were replacing. BMW cars check for broken bulbs and cheap LEDs appear as broken bulbs

Ivan Angulo - yes your battery is getting weak, if your under 12.7volts which I say u are - MEANING change it, - as this is telling u nicely - as old batteries do things like this, they discharge, + everything on your bmw is run off electricity, so u do not want mess around, as the longer u leave it, the gremlins batteries create will freak u out = The Christmas tree affect will appear and it will leave u stranded somewhere.

I have a F82 2015 BMW M4 that uses a lithium ion battery. Every time I start the car I get “increased battery discharge” I contacted my local BMW dealer and some tuner shops and they all tried to charge me $1900+ for the new lithium ion battery. That is just crazy stupid... I am wondering if I can put in a normal battery that matches all the specs to my oem battery in the car. Please help me out

MrEverythingNeeded I reread what you stated and I thought you were asking if you can use a LiPo battery of similar specs. If you are referring to replacing it with an AGM battery. That can’t be done due to the way the IBS works on AGM vs LiPo 😬

Boosted Trav I would like to use a lithium ion battery that matches the specs on my OEM M4 battery. The OEM M4 battery is $2000 I don’t care if I get on for $500 that matches my specs I just want it to work so if I get a Lithium ion battery that matches the specs exactly will that work?

MrEverythingNeeded if so then yes because it has should have the same technology used by LiPo batteries and the way it measures/reads the battery. I personally haven’t swapped a LiPo battery but as long as meets required specs there shouldn’t be an issue.

Paracitic draw is like a short. Something is staying on. I thing I tried and has been successful for me Incase you had module staying on, is to disconnect the battery complete for a few hours and it can reset a module that is not turning off.

I also have an obd2 bluetooth sensor and performance chip (both using an obd2 splitter). Since then, that message has popped up on my 5 series. Will a trickle charge help? I need to keep the performance chip on at all times or else it resets.

Sebastian, the obd2 port all has power and your obd2 bluetooth adapter and chip may cause this message to appear. Trickle charging is will help with the battery but the ibs may be detecting current loss that it can't account for because it's connected to the obd2 port. _randomfix

The batteries on these can be acid or gel and you have to set which they are in the ECU with a proper computer. The sockets turn off with the ignition. So it won't be that. *TIP*: If you're fitting a hardwire kit use this fuse so it will cut off with the ignition. OBD was draining mine before, so I bought one with a switch inbuilt.
