Thanks I’m a single woman this helped me fix my sprinkler
@wenzwenzel252911 ай бұрын
Super helpful. A couple of things to keep in mind. These things come in 1/2 inch and 3/4 (and probably other sizes). You can buy converters between sizes. Also, one end is male and the sprinkler is female. And, if your sprinkler is super deep, you can buy extenders (some of which are male/female which is perfect) in many sizes. Some come in sizes, with new threads every inch or so, so you can cut them to a specific length. Go forth and fix stuff!

I found taking the head off and running the system to be helpful as well. It was insane how much mud came shooting out of that pipe.
@awongutume4 жыл бұрын
Something not mentioned, it would be a good idea to cut a circular or square swath 3-4 inches deep around the sprinkler head to remove grass. Remove carefully as you would want to replace on top after repacking dirt in the hole dug after repairing or replacing the head. This way it will minimize any need to replant or reseed the area.

Thanks man. The shot at home depot was great. It clears things up a ton.
@fastdude20024 жыл бұрын
Always shovel your dirt out onto a piece of plywood or cardboard and not just out onto the lawn. This way you are easily able to recover all the dirt to put back instead of losing some into the lawn and end up with a low spot around the sprinkler from losing some of the dirt. also use a shovel to cut a circle or square a few inches down around the sprinkler and then pull out the lawn plug and place on your board. His way after replacing the dirt you can replace the plug on top and usually you can’t tell you just dug up the sprinkler.

@MarkFauntleroy2 жыл бұрын
As long as your sprinklers are running off of a separate supply (like a well) just turn off the pump to make these repairs. No need to shut off the main water unless your sprinklers are running off your home water supply.

Hey Mark, thanks for sharing the knowledge. I am currently sleep deprived but I do not recall you using teflon or plumbers tape to enhance leak free connections. I use plumbers tape at each connection. May be overkill but not that expensive, but again thanks for sharing the knowledge.
@doodlebugvideofun20015 жыл бұрын
As Danny said, it is always a good idea to use Teflon or plummers tape to make sure that there is no leakage. It’s annoying to have to put on, but it can’t hurt anything and it can actually prevent leaks, so I highly recommend doing that in the future.

The control panel controls the water that goes into each zone. As long as the particular zone you are working with is off at the panel there will be no water in the lines. Hope this helps. Very detailed video Mark. Thx for sharing.

They are correct. If you do not turn the water off, not only will you get totally soaked, but your hole will fill up with water which just makes everything way more difficult.

what type/name of grass you have on your lawn?
@jimfrider67787 жыл бұрын
Try to install the new head flush with the grass. Add a new taller riser if you use the same size sprinkler head size to get it flush with the grass. There female to male risers that will allow you to add a few inches of height by simply screwing F-M riser to the old riser. There are also tools for removing sprinkler heads without digging a big hole. If you have a lot of heads to replace that is much easier than digging holes all over your yard.
@doodlebugvideofun20015 жыл бұрын
As Jim said, it is very nice to have a sprinkler that is flush with the ground. Over time, the grass can grow so thick over the sprinkler that, if unmonitored, can actually block the sprinkler from coming above the ground. This can flood the ground and it can’t be all that good for the sprinkler head.

My land lady loves to jump on the mower and buzz around the lawn is if she is at the Indy 500. And she just clips the tops off any sprinkler head that has not retracted the full length. I have told her countless times to walk the lawn first and make sure the heads are all down , she is just a little bitty thing so I have being changing the broken heads for her. Now I hide the keys for the mower , takes me less time to mow the grass than to run into town and pick up new heads every week ( 35 heads in seven sets of five )

What if the threaded nipple that comes out of the pipe is busted?
@doodlebugvideofun20015 жыл бұрын
It depends on if you can get the threaded nipple off. If you can you can, you can just replace that part but if you can’t the may end up needing to replace the entire upward section of pipe. This is a fairly labor intensive process, and will require lots of digging.

@MarkFauntleroy4 жыл бұрын
Probably large air bubbles trapped somewhere in the line. Have you tried unscrewing and removing the head at the last point on each line and letting the water flow for a minute while the head is off? This might help flush the air out. "Noise Is Coming From My Sprinkler Valve | Hunker" www.hunker.com/13404597/noise-is-coming-from-my-sprinkler-valve

What he removed from that riser was a shrub adapter and nozzle. That nozzle was actually a rainbird 12van nozzle which could have been adjusted to spray at any degree... might have saved him some money and trip if he knew that.

Sprinkling and getting the grass wet, tapping it for comfort, the sound puddles make as you step in, digging the hole, adjusting the pressure in the nozzle, turning her 180°, making sure the head has free motion, and of course fertilizing so it can grow. Lol i hadn't thought about this until i read your comment.

That's not necessarily true, if you run a test, there is usually always residual water in the line. I had to replace about 6 sprinklers in my system, the sprinklers located lower on my property almost always had water that would rush out as soon as i removed the sprinkler. What I did when I ran into this situation was have a piece of small wood to sit under the elbow which gently lifted the fitting high enough to safely screw the new body on without dirt issues.
