This isn’t the first video I watched on thermostatic valve pins but it’s the only one that explained how far the pin should be exposed when heating is on. Cheers mate you’ve solved my problem and saved me phoning British Gas 👍 have a great Christmas!

Put the hammer down for a minute and try shutting the lockshield valve and release the pressure in the radiator though the bled valve ..now you have the system pressure pushing on that stuck TRV

Great tips. One upstairs radiator in my house is cold, the rest are fine. When I check the inflow pipe of the cold radiator bellow the thermostat valve it's always cold, not even warm. What does this signify?

Should you expect the pin to get stuck after just one year? I’m having issues with radiators being luke warm. I had a new Worcester Bosch boiler and new radiators installed about a year ago.

I have a bathroom towel radiator that no longer provides any heat at all. I have replaced both the trv and lockshield valves after draining the open vented system. Still no heat. I thought perhaps an airlock, so I connected a garden hose to the top mounted bleed valve, and tried to flush through via the flow and return alternately. I was surprised the mains water didn't come out of the external lowest drain clock. Any ideas?

@@MarkBallardLTD Yes, just found that both flow and return pipes are blocked in flexi pipe bends below the floor. I thought these were only for hot and cold services, not heating....

Hi the pipe on one side of the radiator is really hot and the other side is not at all but I can't seem to find a pin on my valve mine looks quite different anything you can recommend?
@MarkBallardLTD
@MarkBallardLTD 2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing it I can not tell. But if one of the pipes is really hot that is almost certainly going to be the flow pipe. And the radiator should get hot if both valve are open. so do check both valve.

My radiator doesn’t have a pin as such when I remove the thermostatic valve. It’s more of a thicker rounded end. Any suggestions please Mark?
@MarkBallardLTD
@MarkBallardLTD 2 жыл бұрын
If it's a thermostatic valve you have. I know the sort you mean. rather than a pin, there's a larger button in the middle. Still works exactly the same tap it gently and hopefully it will release.

@@MarkBallardLTD thanks for getting back to me. I actually managed to fix it in the end. It turned out it was something much more simple. The value on the other side just needed turning! Think when we got a new combi boiler fitted a few years back they played around with it and didn’t put it back. Thanks again!

Basically you have poor flow though the radiator. make sure both valves are open. Try turning off all your other radiators see if it comes to life. Other than that, trying to work out why it has poor flow. not always an easy job.

Hi Mark, can you please tell me would the BTU on old radiators (20 year old) have been the same as the ones we buy now, eg on 1600mm x 600mm double? Or did the old ones have a lower BTU then?
@MarkBallardLTD
@MarkBallardLTD 2 жыл бұрын
If the old radiator has fins on it should be about the same size for size. If it has no fins on the back of it, then it is just a radiator which will not put out as much heat a as a radiator with fins on called a convector radiator. Hope that make sense.

Rip it all out & fit storage heaters then there's never any maintenance, breakdowns, expensive services & no new very expensive boiler needed every 9 or 10 years. Much more efficient & doesn't produce CO2 from burning fossil fuel. (£150ph greedy engineer never required to rip you off on parts & labour either!)
