I took the radiator off to convert the study into a new bedroom for our youngest. Finished the room 3 weeks ago but now the summer has gone we noticed it's freezing, so she moved to our bedroom and I hit the sofa. Went through your steps on this video and we now have a very happy and cosy young daughter who wants to thank you personally for helping daddy to make her room lovely and warm (And Daddy wants to tank you because that sofa is hella uncomfortable after 2-3 nights)

The TRV is on the right 👉 , the lockshield is on the left 👈. After bleeding, turn off every other rad and see if the one affected heats up. If it doesn't then get an SDS drill, set it to hammer, get a block of wood and vibrate the TRV as the valve might be stuck down.

I have like 5 radiators in my apartment. one in my kitchen, one in my room, one in the bedroom, and one in the playroom, and one in the bathroom but expect the one in the bathroom is different. and also there's one in the hallway in first floor of my apartment. but expect that also that the color is different. it's gray. and radiator the one in my kichten and bathroom that makes noise. sounded like sssss like hiss. and sometimes we may have a bit problem when the heat was on like sometimes it can be not warm enough however when the plumber landlord didn't set the meter up high, or sometimes it may be something got stuck in the radiators, or maybe there's something underneath the radiators like something like that. but for now all of my radiators are working perfectly fine! thanks for sharing your video by the way. keep in touch!😉

Thanks James. Had to make a mention of the video at the 3min 35sec point where you are bleeding the white rad you have the bleed hole at the top spilling water on the floor although if you rotate bleed hole 90deg this will now allow water to be collected in a small pot or jar instead of water ending up on carpet or whatever. Hope you don`t mind me mentioning this.

I fixed an additional rad that had been 'retro-fitted' by a 'plumber' which had been teed off the upstairs heating, that was sited in the bog down stairs that hadn't been working for years that even the 'professional' British Gas 'engineer' couldn't fix by opening the drain valve and allowing the air to 'purge' and heated up instantly. I also inhibited the system that the 'plumber' had conveniently forgot to dose the system. All I can say is that the 'customer' was very 'grateful' tut-tut plumbers. Remember peeps, to do it yourself, don't bother with a plumber, hold-tight!

To give some info Daughters bedroom rad hadn't come on on a few mornings...but if it put the heating on manually it worked and other days it did work fine So removed the TRV completely...pin not stuck, moves freely.... So wondering what this means now? Thanks could it be a blockage in the valve? Also, to be clear, all other rads are hot and without issue

Another great vid. Got a small rad in my ensuite fed from drop down pipes from the ceiling. Barely gets warm. Have bled numerous times. Turned off valves, removed rad blanking plug, turned on each valve in turn and tapped via adaptor off until sputtering stopped, clean consistent flow. Turned off valve and repeat on other side until same result. A few days later rad barely gets warm. Combie expansion tank pressure tested and fine. System balanced and appears fine. Other than removing and bridging with a straight or bent bit of copper. Any advice or suggestions? Cheers 👍

Great video. Finally found one that addresses hard closed rad shields that won't re-open. I'm pretty sure I have one rad like this on my system (rad shields at both ends). The rad is not air locked and bleeds ok so one valve or the other is presumably open (at least a bit) but no heat to it at all. All the others in the system work fine. I really don't want to drain the whole system to check which valve on this rad is at fault. How did you manage to get the valve spindle reconnected? Does this just screw back on to the gate part of the valve?

Sent you a tweet of a plumbing disaster. My builder put the thermostatic valve at the top of the radiator (lord knows why). I can’t imagine this has a huge effect on the radiator, but does it increase the sludge - it now barely gets warm. Should I get a plumber to sort out properly or should I just remove the sludge and hope for the best.
@tlangdon124 жыл бұрын
TRVs at the top of radiators is actually the best way to install a TRV. As James says that TRV is normally on the flow side, and having it at the top forces, hot water to flow more evenly through the radiator and so heats the radiator more evenly. It also puts the TRV closer to the centre of the human body, so that the TRV is sensing the temperature in the room more as the human body senses it. IMHO only plumbers looking to save a bit on copper pipe that put the TRVs at the bottom.
@duncanbowtell26074 жыл бұрын
Tony Langdon - Thanks. I guess that just leaves a sludge problem. I won’t be able to flip the thing over easily.
