If this video has saved you as much time and money as me please give it a thumbs up, also if you need these parts please use the links provided below. Here are two separate links for the negative and positive battery cables. These are the best prices I have found for these parts less the $100 for both OEM parts. Please use my links to help me out. Thank you kindly.
Please share and thumbs up, 😊 thank you!

Been chasing my tail with this issue for over a year. a battery replacement made it go away for about 9 months. I started thinking the worst (BCM,PCM etc.) everything in my almost 2 decades of automotive experience was telling me "BAD GROUND" but since I had cleaned all the connections I ruled this out. 08 Tahoe Died today at the grocery store, after almost a year with the new battery and no issues. saw this video, shoved the negative wire into its terminal and gave it a wiggle. lights came on. had the wife crank it while I shoved the neg wire and got her home. Thanks Bro!

Thanks so much for your video! I thought I was crazy because I would tell people at the auto store what was going on and it would never happen while I was there. Get home the locks would flick and the radio would go crazy. Then no power at all. You were correct, the ground cable is separating from the terminal. You are a life saver!!!!!

You rock dude. I just spent a few hours diagnosing this and your video confirms exactly what I found. For those reading this: while accelerating the transmission would shift rapidly in and out gear, doors lock and unlock rapidly. Finally it went stone dead as if someone removed the battery. I ran a continuity test on the negative battery cable and had nothing. After jiggling the cable around, I had continuity and the vehicle started right up.

can you detail between which two points you tested continuity?
@TweekerDan1984
@TweekerDan1984 2 жыл бұрын
I specifically test just the ground side of the battery terminal and following that grounding cable to the fire wall and frame. While having your voltmeter set to 12 V you would want to touch your red lead to the positive side of the battery and then start tapping your black weed to the negative side of the battery including different points throughout the engine the firewall or like bolts on the frame of the vehicle. You’d want to make sure when trying to test for this voltage that you aren’t testing on the top surface of paint because sometimes you can get a false reading. Please let me know if this is clear enough if not I will try to explain in a different manner. I did not test the continuity on these connections instead I was just testing for a strong 12volt connection though ground connections.

Thank you very much for posting this video. My 2012 Yukon experienced the same problem yesterday. To condense a very long troubleshooting story, I connected my code scanner today to see if there were any codes. When I tried to turn on the ignition with the scanner connected, there was absolutely no power. I thought the scanner might have somehow blown a fuse or fried the electronics. I turned to KZbin and found your video. I connected my DVM to the stud on the battery connector, and checked a couple of grounding points under the hood. Both points read 7.5 volts, so I knew the problem was in the ground cable. After removing it from the battery, and squeezing the hex crimps where the ground wires enter the battery connector, the problem disappeared. I will replace the battery ground terminal at some point, but it was certainly a relief to find the problem was not in the electronics. Funny thing, the battery terminal and the copper cables that are crimped inside it look clean and bright. There was no evidence of discoloration or corrosion. I would not have suspected that connection as being the problem, based on a visual inspection. It was ironic that the ground connection gave out when I connected the code scanner.

Thank you for sharing! I know just replacing the terminal would have corrected the issue, but I decided to replace the entire ground cable just to cover my bases. I dealt with this issue for quite sometime before locating this exact problem and I’m happy my solution has helped so many people. I realize my video was not perfect quality but it did save me $3,500 from the shops estimated repair charges. Maybe all of the people that disliked my video were associated with dealers... thank you again for taking the time to comment.

Thank you so much! I have a 2016 Escalade and I was driving like 90 on the freeway the whole thing blacked out for a second and then flickered and turned on! This has happened a few times and the mechanics at Cadillac couldn't figure it out. I did a 3 point turn quickly and it blacked out again. This has happened a few times. As this time it happened just sitting in my garage no power I called tow and while I was waiting I googled for answers and no one had anything on forums then I found this video! I called my Cadillac advisor as they were all stumped and I told them its probably the ground cable (which made perfect sense to me) and they said that it could def be it. When tow came they jumped me and it started, I drove it to dealership and the advisor opened the hood and went straight to the ground cable and he wiggled it was so loose. He said this had to be the probably it should do that and the other red side did not. I can't believe all those mechanics could not figure it out. Ridiculous. Im so thankful to find this as I love my escalade but was going to sell it as it is terrifying having your escalade blackout no power while your passing another car at 90 miles per hr. Thanks for sharing!! They are going to diagnose more tomorrow but I think we are good. Another weird thing the a/c would blow cold then warm air on and off for 10min as i drove to dealership.

Wow, wish I found this video $1300.00 dollars ago. I could have replaced it myself and screw the dealer instead of him screwing me. My 2010 never produced a code so therefore the Cadillac dealer couldn't find a issue. The other shop I took it to got out code checker ,multimeter and started physically looking for a problem. Where they found the battery terminal ground cable with very high resistance and while the car would running the 175 mega fuse would arch occasionally. They replaced the cable and fuse, now all is well!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Dan, thank you for a great video. My wife and I just recently bought an 11 Escalade and this morning while taking the kiddo to school (sub freezing day) it started to freak out (doors lock/unlock, warning about side vehicle sensor service, no power at gas pedal, nav on/off, etc.) I had to pull over to see WTF, I messed with the battery cables, and all of a sudden all was good (other than needing to reset the clock). Figuring this is my issue (well at least with the Caddy), appreciate the video. Also saw Titus Will which made me think of home, was born and raised in Seattle (Mill Creek), and moved to Dallas about a year and a half ago.

Sorry to hear that Tony, are you getting about 12.6 volts from your battery with the engine off?
@TweekerDan1984
@TweekerDan1984 8 жыл бұрын
If your multimeter is reading 12.6 volts at the battery then I would check power to ground from your main fuse box located on the driver side. If you aren't reading at least 12 volts then you know you have a bad ground. If the battery is not holding a charge around 12.6 volts I would replace the battery. Hope you figure it out.

Alright fellow cadillac friends, first thing you want to do is change out the Maxifuse 175A by the positive battery post or by the firewall,it's either or! I been trouble shooting mine with grounds and such to see if I get any sign of life and I switched out the Maxifuse and Walla! We have life on the lack, thank goodness! Try that before you get to the ground cables, if it's not that then continue to the ground wire by the battery and there's another by the firewall on the driver side that goes down aswell! Good luck!🙏👌👍

Excellent deductive work. The Chevy Silverado has the same loss of power problems. Only with that, they replaced the two positive link ups. The short battery stub and the positive harness. Problem - stallout while turning. Near stallout changing lanes. In the middle of turning in the Lowes parking lot I loss my steering and brakes, was literately locked in my truck without power to the windows or doors. Turning the key off and on truck never made a peep. It returned to 'normal' after about seven minutes. It's damn lucky I was doing only 5-7 mph.

@@michaelshaffer1239 Not just the same symptoms but the same year & vehicle as mine. As I mentioned, they replaced the small short battery stub and the whole positive harness hookup. I would suggest you change the harness, see how the truck responds and if still a problem, then change the 'stub'. Looking over the two parts, I can see how the harness would be the main issue. The pins located inside the coupling are either mismatched or the metal used has low connectivity which becomes more advanced under temperature changes or more likely when jarred as riding over bumps or performing turns. For me it was the 'turning' that triggered most stall or near stall outs. On the smaller 'stub', I did notice that if I tightened down the bolt, it never really had a solid 'bite', making a tight bond to the battery post. It's quite possible to shave off a little 'meat' inside the area where the two sections greet the post, it may make a tighter fit. That or you may be able to place a small piece of sheet lead between the stub and the battery post itself. I'm very certain either of these corrections to the stub and replacing the harness will solve your problems. I've had no reoccurring problems when mine were replaced. Which brings to mind the lack of customer care / responsibility GM has towards their customers. These were definitely a recall at company cost problems. Worse, at customer life and injury risks.

Thanks for the video. I tested for power and there was. Then when the problem occurred I tested again and there wasn't. So surprised that disconnected batter could make the vehicle stall. I thought the alternator would then power it. Must be a computer thing. I took it off, cleaned, it and put it on tight and has been fine since. (positive cable)

I looked at it again. Mine is a 95 burb. It has two cables (positive). One that goes to the fuse box and the other that goes to the starter and alternator it sits on top of the other. which was not making contact and so the alternator/starter was not making contact and not able to supply power to the system.

@@TweekerDan1984 Actually my problem was something different. However I did replace the fusible link on the positive cable. When I tested the bolts on the positive cable I had voltage on one (from the battery) at 12.5 v and 0 at the other. The issue with my brake lights was actually a safety switch under the dash the name of that part escapes me at this moment, but it was the switch that requires you to step on the brake to start the vehicle and to move the vehicle in and out of Park. Long story short my power issue was the fusible link on the battery and my stuck in park problem was that switch.

Just replacing the (-) battery terminal lug was corrected the Total Power Loss for my 07 Silverado. When it would happen I could just jiggle the end of the cable at the battery to restore power. Didn't see the logic in buying another OEM cable to go bad, just a $10 fitting at AutoZone. I just used a 12V test light. I had a bright light from post to post on the battery. But I could barely get the lamp to light if I went to the ground post on the engine to the (+) terminal. I ran a jumper from the (-) battery terminal to the ground post on the engine. Immediately got power back.

Prior to this I reved the truck up to 3000 rpm for 30 secs and that recreated the short, did this three times. Dash started flickering radio turned off and on. After taping and tightening terminal repeated the test had no shortage! I hope this helps someone. The battery was replaced weeks earlier by Walmart, FYI!
