Craig's DIY Car is silicone grease in spray can also good for this? Thanks

I followed your guide and my steering is now transformed, it no longer 'sticks' when cold, and feels so much more smooth and weighty. I'm a very amateur mechanic and I managed to do this easily without any problems. Thank you so much!

One of the best filmed and explained videos I've seen, I will do this at the weekend before firing the parts cannon on my steering issue (a notch when turning from sided to side and a creak when breaking and steering at the same time at low speeds)

Wauw, you have every part of this car in your head/brain's . You love this car, that's for shure! Great tips,always. But for the engine; the easiest and most effective maintenance is just drive some hours on a motorway/highway, maybe 120>150 km/h (or faster), i believe. To "wake-up" the engine. All fluids(motoroil,coolant ,brake and steering fluid, fuel) has to be enough of course... Not only driving in a city/village at slow speed and low rpm; this kind of car is more for the motorway

hi, i have a fiesta mk8. The steering wheel turns in pieces / jerky when I turn it slowly. Can this fix it? no noise
@ilfordino-fordfiestatutori87255 жыл бұрын
I'm going to do the same thing on my '02 Fiesta, bacause the knocking sound when turning the steering wheel is almost unbearable (and I've replaced the whole front suspension). Thanks for the video!

Hello i got a little play in steering wheel before i turn the tires, there is a dead space when i turn left right a little, tires don't turns in this moment, only after few millimeters, i begin to turn with the steering rack, what should i check ?
@CraigsDIY10 ай бұрын
You need to lift front of car and then follow the movement of the wheel until you can't see any follow through, e.g. check the wheel is turning the steering column at its base (firewall), then check inner tie rods are moving, then the outer tie rod ends. A few mm of movement at the wheel is very little at the rack so it will require a careful look. A camera set-up stationary might help. If you have a Mondeo I have videos on all those components which will help. If no play detectable in the steering, check also balljoints.

@@CraigsDIY I have an mk3 mondeo I think I just found it : under the steering wheel, the length compensator bar of the column is playing inside the steering column. You show it in a video on how to regrease it. But regreasing it will not delete the space between the 2 component
@abklhayy84410 ай бұрын
À defective wishbone can do this ?
@CraigsDIY10 ай бұрын
Yes, particularly the balljoint. But probably not that. Honestly I think a few mm play is not too bad, mine is similar.

@@CraigsDIY i got approximately 7mm play. I will check all stabilizer system and I let you know

Ive got a fiesta with a noise that sounded like the plastic cowling around the steering wheel was rubbing on the steering wheel but only at low speeds, when parking etc. Is this the a similar noise you had on the mondeo? Also does anyone know if the 70mm spacing would be the same on the Fiesta?
@CraigsDIY4 жыл бұрын
No, I am talking about metallic creaking or knocking. I doubt the 70mm applies to other cars, you will have check the workshop guide for the same procedure specific to the Fiesta. (But common sense will tell you, put it back the same as it is now unless you have reason to think it's wrong).

Loud creaks like a door are going to come from a gear area like the rack and pinion, not elbows. I was once able to poke a hole in the rubber boots on each end (not "either" end, wise guys), and spray white silicon spray, like the whole can, I unloaded fury on this embarrassing piece of garbage they put in the Ford Sport Trac, and it was so quiet that I could sneak up on people. 6 months later after some weather change, it all came back, Louder. Argggg!!!

What type of silcone did you use..is ther a specific type ..or can one use copper grease..or axle grease etc..many thx..great vid.
@CraigsDIY5 жыл бұрын
Any silicone grease. Copper 'grease' is not really a grease or lubricant, it's an anti-seize, so no, and other greases that are petroleum based aren't a good idea here because of the rubber bushes in the universal joint that attaches to the steering rack. Silicone grease is about the right consistency for the shaft and also safe for the rubber hence it's specification.

Silicone is good stuff but not the best for this application. It's too thin. Either white lithium or caliper grease would be longer lasting and not affect the plastics/ rubber.

@Ints It helped initially but then seems to have come back with avengence! I may have left it too long before doing it so caused damage to the length compensator. I am a novice and managed to do it so is worth giving it a go if you have this issue. I am going to try and live with it for now as the car isn't worth spending much more money on it.

Good video like always! Last week I took out, cleaned and greased interior fan, coz sometimes it was making noise, mostly with low temperatures outside. If you never did this you will be surprised how much dust there is. Mostly its dust from the carbon brushes. On the blades and inside the chamber where fan sits. By the chamber i mean air tube in the car. The motor self must be taken apart in 2 parts to clean good. Its easy to take motor out but takes more time to clean all. Some do it with water if its really dirty =) kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3LGn5ijj9RrmtUm37s
