Thank you, Max, for your informative, and enlightening, videos regarding the 2018+ Honda Goldwing. It's really great seeing you, and Chris Dikmen of Cruiseman's Garage, doing GREAT videos for Goldwing owners to work on their own their Goldwings. Considering $100.00, or more, for dealer labor costs, we Goldwing owners can save a few dollars, especially on regular maintenance and enhancement of the Goldwing experience. Today, in fact, I watched your "emergency key" video and I was able to remove the "saddlebag rear center cover" which hides the emergency key. :) Thank you, again! dan in sonora, california

Max, thanks for inspiring me again. I looked at the manual to see if there was any information on opening the left saddle bag manually, and on page 187, it describes how to use the Emergency Key to open the left bag, and from there, there is a release knob to open the right bag if it is stuck. Because they have a procedure in the manual for stuck saddle bags, that is probably why Honda wants to deny warranty work. It also tells me they new it was a problem, because they put it in the manual. What not just make it work right all the time? Honda knew about this for sure. Thanks for the inspiration always!

I had that issue on mine after installing the saddlebag marker lights. It worked fine before installing them but bag stuck after the install. I was going to try something similar to this awesome fix but, for the heck of it , I loosened the metal latches on the top of the inner shell that I had removed during the light install. Leaving them slightly loose, I shut the bag and tried to open it again. It worked perfectly. I tried tighten the latches several times moving them slightly around until I got it to work correctly every time. So I got lucky, my issue turned out to be the metal latch things were out of adjustment. There was quite a bit of play available in them.
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
The problem I am fixing here isn't related to the latches. The latch system will release, but the door stays stuck due to the warped inner liner. You can check quickly by bring the door up and if it hits the rubber bumper instead of passing over it, you have this same problem and the door function can be improved.

Great video! On my 2019 tour, my left bag drags some but opens fine with the botton. My issue is that the emergency key doesn't fully release the latches on the left bag. I couldn't find a video on adjusting those latches. Do you have one?

I actually don't know of any adjustment on that system. That sounds like a warranty issue.

Hi Max. I have a 2018 tour DCT and the battery went dead. When I tried to use the key to manually open the left saddlebag, the right side latch opens but the left side doesn't. Do you have a fix for that?
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
It only opens one door. Then inside by the latch is a cable you pull to open the other bag. Then in that bag is a cable you pull to open the trunk. But I think you have it backwards. Key opens left trunk. Left trunk opens right, right opens trunk.
@PARDNKD4 жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion The saddlebag has 2 latches. So when I turn the key to open the left bag, the rear latch comes loose but the left or forward latch doesn't. When the battery is charged, the door opens with the push button but doesn't release both latches with the key. That is what I am looking to fix.
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
@@PARDNKD OK. Try turning the key as far as possible. The spring tension gets very high, and the head of the key is so small there isn't much to hold to twist. If that doesn't get you in, I'd have to look further.
@PARDNKD4 жыл бұрын
I have tried turning the key to the point that it was flexing and I didn't want to break it. That is why I am looking for someway to fix it. I appreciate your help.
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
@@PARDNKD Next step would be to loosen the metal latch loops and adjust them into different locations. They only have a little bit of slack in the holes, so it may just require a tweak. There is only one cable going to the entire mechanism, so if you can't get it to work, Honda would have to replace the latch system under warranty.

I was wondering as another shadetree fix if you could put a small washer as a shim between the inner and outer cases on the bolt. Also Harbor freight sells a low price heat gun.
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
You would have to glue the washer in place, as there no way to retain it while you are trying to install it. By the time you have the outer cover removed, you might as well just heat it and fix it.

I had the same issue on the starboard (right) saddlebag door. After many attempts at correcting the problem. The solution on my door turned out to be tightening the screw on the front latch (on the bike saddlebag not the lid/door) a 1/4 turn. Opens flawlessly every time now.

My left saddle bag door is stuck and will not open. I see you’ve got a fix for it once it’s open but how do you get it open? I opened the right saddlebag and pulled the cable so I could manually open it and it still won’t open? Can the bottom pins be removed while the saddlebags door is closed to then unhinge the top?
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
The cable that opens the left door, is user the Emergency Access Key under the trunk, and above the licence plate. There's no way to get to the hinges with the doors closed.

Max you mentioned to stick something between the inner plastic and outer cover... that seems to me would make the matter worse. I have 2018 gw .. it just happened today July 27 2020 it’s 97 Hot degrees in nyc where I am... apparently the inner or outer door is melting....
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
They need some webbing or support structure under the painted plastic cover to fix it permanently. However, the trick of wedging something in between the paint and the inner door works well, because the inner door is relatively strong, whereas the painted part is thin and soft.

Ok, kind of a different "shade tree" solution, but since the inner liner is pulling the outer shell down, and the inner liner is attached to the outer shell by that one screw in the middle, couldn't you simply remove that screw? That would allow the outer shell to stay in its correct shape, not pulled down. I realize it's a bit of a short term fix, but I think it would work. Thanks for the vid!
