I just purchased a custom made stamp & a Coloris Ink Pad from Germany, usually a good source of quality products here in Europe, but the ink pad was bone dry. The problem is that the ink pad container is not airtight and will dry out over time in storage. I just used a fine-mist sprayer containing water; similar to what people use to moisten indoor plants etc, to remoisten the ink pad. The water soaked straight into the pad indicating how dry it was. This worked perfectly, just don't add too much water to the pad. I then put the ink pad into a sealable plastic bag to stop it drying out. Hope this helps.

I Purchased 14 pads today at hobby lobby and they are all dry as well. We should not have to buy reinkers or revitalizer spray when we’re paying $6 per ink pad.

This is EXACTLY how I feel right now. I bought all the sets that are available at Michael and ALL are dry. I paid a lot of money for dry ink pads!

Agreed especially on the $6-$12 per pad inks that you aren't likely getting just one or two colors (like I just bought 18 of the full sized oxides and i keep opening each praying the next isn't as jacked as the one before etc. Between it being dry or a total mess or the lids not even staying on, to the actual 'specially made just for these hybrid ink pads' -Tim holtz* being totally frayed and shredded, leaving actual pieces all over my stamps and pages, not to mention the ones that are really depressing and the ink pad itself isn't even glued onto the extremely cheapo, flimsy and thin plastic stamp pad case all kinds of wrong, crooked, uneven, hanging over edges. Like omg. Sorry frustrated as I bought new, so I expect the quality you see sooo many (in fact all, as I haven't found a single video yet about these issues..) crafters on KZbin etc. Loving and reccomending these inks soo much. I had high expectations, and after the amount of money dropped on them, I can't imagine spending that much again just to have to reink them, not even with certainty it'd help them at all, as Tim holtz also says after a point the pads just can't be revived if they dry out, are stored incorrectly etc for too long. So wth... how do you know before spending a small fortune on ink pads? :( I wonder if anyone else has had these issues (any of them! Lol.) With the distress oxides in particular? And if anyone's ever tried to reach out to ranger about it? For the first time I wish I had gone cheap on my craft supplies, usually it's the other way around. But yeah, it's also my own fault/problem because I still don't want to deal with returning them etc after I spent so much time labeling the ink pads outer casing/ packaging, prepping all my swatches, shipping and more. Hmph. Sorry half rant. But also thank you for this video because you're the first I've seen ever even bring up this problem. I atleast think I'm not just crazy and/or too ocd or something now. Appreciate you!

Most of mine seem dry. When I contacted Ranger they asked for photos and then they said they’d send me the refresher free. But from your experiments seems you need the reinker. I think I’m going with a different brand for stamp pads

THANK YOU-THANK YOU for doing this clip. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and threw away the receipt and the packaging before I sat down to craft, making it so I could not return it!! Ridiculous that we have to REVIVE brand new products…but so glad you showed me how!! With appreciation! Thank you!

I recently ordered a supply of Distress Ink and Distress Oxide pads...ALL of which arrived almost completely dried out. I'd never used this product before so it was very helpful to see what a pad with ink should look like and how it should perform. Thank you!!!

Yes, I just got some of these and mine are dried out as well, thanks so much for the video, but I don't know why they charge so much and we get dried up ink, they should come ready to go..
@bdesiree24467 ай бұрын
My very first distress oxide ink pad was dry and it gave me a very bad first impression. But I’m thinking because the pigment is loaded in the pad still, and it probably doesn’t take long for the moisture to evaporate is why it gets so dang dry. They should sell it with a small tiny bottle of the refresher with each pad to be fair.

I think every Tim Holtz and Gina K ink pad I've bought has been dry when I got it. Surpassing that and making your own with the reinker is a great idea - I need to watch your video on how to make the pad!
@MsTcup2 жыл бұрын
I’ve bought too many of these ranger inks that are bone dry and it pisses me off. Then you see so many videos ( probably sponsored) that have these “ juicy” pads. So much money on all the products. Also, speaking of Tim Holltz. Doesn’t he realize people who watch his videos are the people who are making him rich? I’m asking because he turns off comments on his videos….Really. Since I’m ranting, and I apologize……The splatter box is a BOX, 🤦♀️
@calypso_lazuli2 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree! I mean don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Tim Holtz products (with the exception of products like you mentioned: a splatter box, really lol)… but the way he reels us in specifically with inks/pigments, stencils and stamps is RIDICULOUS because they can get UBER expensive to gather up these collections, it’s close to impossible for a poor person like me to keep up!!

Thanks so much for the demo! Perfect timing.....I pulled out my ink pads and almost all of them were dried out. Until now I have only seen the homemade glycerin mixture and water squirted on the pads, so this method looks like the best way to preserve my ink pads.

Contact your supplier, they should replace them, that is a defective product. If the supplier doesn't replace them, contact Ranger Ink.

I like the distress inks and oxides too , but I do get annoyed at how fast they dry out or are dry when I buy new colors and I have to go through theatrics to revive them in the middle of a project. Most annoying is Ranger retires colors and you have these favorite colors and you can’t get a re-inker or a replacement when you finally need one. I have the refresher and it does work for awhile, but eventually you need the re-inker. If I can find someone who still has one available, it’s very expensive. Tim Holtz products in general are overpriced, so I do buy other brands of ink pads and they are more reasonably priced and go on sale more frequently than Ranger. I have Mementos that are years old and still juicy and I have started buying some of the Versa Claire line and they are super juicy and I love stamping with those as well as the archival inks.

I have just returned a Tim Holz distress ink kit I bought today at Michael's as all three ink pads were dry right out of the box (despite costing a whopping $30 CAD for 3 mini-cubes + blending tool & mini-spritzer). Judging by the comments here, this is a common problem. I wonder if the partial shrink wrap (open on sides) may have something to do with it. This type of product should be packaged in a way that prevents evaporation during transport and storage. After seeing so many KZbinrs rave about these ink pads, I can say this is a real disappointment. I will not be buying this product again.

I do totally agree that it's ridiculous how many of my supposedly brand new ranger ink pads were dried out or even damaged etc. But not at all in any judgmental or hopefully not even in an unsolicited advice type of way, just a random thought, it may be your paper as well as how hard you press on the blenders. I just noticed your paper sounds uncoated and the blending was soo scratchy and pretty heavy handed (I only know because I tend to do the same hahahaha)
@sarahmoss42249 ай бұрын
There is obviously a design flaw if we are buying new pads that are unusable as dry from the very start.They are not cheap to begin with then add a reinker ontop and it's £10/11 a colour approx

@unboundbytiffany2 жыл бұрын
Well yeah it's obviously crappy to get a dried out ink pad but if you're stuck with it and can't get it returned or exchanged etc you may as well get the reinkers and the spray to rehydrate as its cheaper in the long run than buying new pads over and over. But agreed and I think she's made sure to not make it a point that its ok and it just needs more purchased products, etc. She's just giving some helpful options and I'm grateful to see it and that I'm not the only one who got a bunch of problematic ranger distress ink pads. :)

Thanks for sharing. Excellent comparison. I agree the Reinkers provide the best option, however, the Refresher will work in a pinch.

Were your ink pads used a lot and empty? Mine havent been used as I forget about them. Hoping refresher is enough
@unboundbytiffany2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the ink and pad. Apparently according to Tim holtz if the distress ink pads aren't reinked or very well maintained somehow, it will get to the point where it's unsaveable and you'll have to replace entirely . That's ridiculous to me. But i didn't listen to that video until after my purchase of wayyy to many of his ink pads. Grr

I think its just glycerin, for the dye inks atleast I beleive that's all you need. Glycerin and maybe distilled water or even water/rubbing alcohol mix to prevent any mold etc. From the water.
