My shaft is bad so I need to replace it however I don’t have exterior screws. There’s just holes and I can’t tell what is in the inside of it when I ordered a replacement it comes with rivets. Do you know if I could just drill the rivets out and hopefully pull that shaft out.

@@robertgillispie5034 You need to find out who is the manufacturer and ask them I have no clue what you have. Good Luck!

I purchased a used Greyhawk with a awning motor that wobbled. Thanks to you and your video I repaired the loose ends as you described. However I used 3/16 rivets. Thanks so much....

Thanks for adding another project to my list of "to-do's". That wobble on our awning has been there since the beginning. Jayco dealer always said there was no issue.

You are welcome, Art! They may say there is no issue, but our motor runs a lot smoother now. 😀

Hi guys always great how-to videos. Screws are notorious for coming loose on those awnings. There is a lot of torque on the ends and eventually screws just don't hold tight. If they come loose again try pop rivets. Many awnings now use them. Thumbs up!
@GetGonewithUS3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou and thanks ! We were going to do rivets, but I already have 3 rivets guns in storage, didn't need another one. LOL We will probably grab one from storage on our way through New England this year. 😀

It's always something with RV/TT's.😐 If you own the same one longer than 5yrs you've practically already built it over again with all the tightening and replacing of parts. It's an assembly hobby, as much as a leisure hobby. Always helpful and useful tips/content.👍🏼

Once again, another terrific tutorial. I have the same issue. I would have used some Loctite. Where those stainless steel screws?
@GetGonewithUS3 жыл бұрын
I'm figuring with 4 screws vs the 2 screws, it not going to be able to move enough to cause a problem. If it does happen again, I'll probably just rivet it. 😀

Glad you enjoyed it! The weight of an awning will vary due to the length you need. You can call Carefree of Colorado and ask them for the size you are interested in. 1 (303) 469-3324

That’s the issue I’m having except mine has 3 screws. As I was rolling it in the last screw flew off. I hadn’t realized the other 2 had already flown off. I pulled the screws off an put them back in. Yet it’s still wobbly. Should I just drill and add 1 screw since I already have 3 holes with screws? Thank you for your help. Solo Woman RV’er.
@GetGonewithUS2 жыл бұрын
I would be more concerned with why all the screws came out. You may want to consider putting in a larger screw. It sound like the current screws are loose. Of course we are only guessing without being able to see it in person. Good Luck! 😀

We did the same thing a couple weeks ago and now our RV arm and cap is rotating even worse. What are we doing wrong? Thank you for any advice you can help us with.
@GetGonewithUS2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing it, we can only guess. Did you ever hit anything with the awning? Put it out and get on a step ladder then look down the length of the awning tube. Is it straight the whole length? Check and making sure the awning arms are aligned properly. Are they binding or out of alignment? Good Luck.

Now I have something else to check!! Glad you made this video. My awning kinda chatters when coming in. I have sprayed about 1/2 can of WD40 on the arms so far. lol Was going to try the duck tape next but will hold off until I try your fix!! Thanks again, and as usual "safe travels".

Thanks Bruce! We weren't sure what it was when we first noticed it. Like everything else it only got worse. At least this is a cheap fix. Funny how many times we notice other awning doing it in the campgrounds now. 😀

What type are the 6 screws you removed from the motor housing? Is it a Philips head?
@GetGonewithUS Жыл бұрын
It is called a Robertson screw. You can pick up a Robertson Screwdriver or bit at basically any hardware store. Most of the screws in newer RV's are Robertson Screws. Good Luck
@62impalaconvert3 ай бұрын
Mine were phillips. The two screws on the end cap were square drive.
@Cabernet2000 Жыл бұрын
I just did this. Took a #12 to replace the #10 as the hole became stripped. Used Phillips head. Screw the square snd star screws. They are just too problem problematic finding the right bit.
@GetGonewithUS Жыл бұрын
Glad you got something to work for you. We never have had a problem with the Robertson bit (square screw). The newer RV's use them a lot. Readily available at Home Depot.

@@GetGonewithUS 🤣. Thank you... I ran right outside and looked at my awning end caps. 😁 I have three screws in each.🙄 Amazing, how we, the RV buyer allows the RV industry to get away with such poor quality. Our 2021 Georgetown GT7 (🍋) has had 7 repairs the first 2000 miles and now at 6000 miles, needs another 12 repairs including blistering and peeling vinyl floor covering. 🥳Yayyy... We're soooo happy 🥳
@GetGonewithUS3 жыл бұрын
@@rvvacation1862 Congrats, you had one more screw each side than we did. LOL The poor quality control, we were told, comes from the lack of government standards for RV's like the automobile industry has to abide by. Of course if there were some, none of us could probably afford to buy a RV. LOL
