I found that the reason the motor board fails is an issue with the drain pump. The sewer smell you noticed when you cleaned the filter is a sign of a pump problem. If you took a look at the pump impeller you’d probably notice black slime in the impeller from the seal leaking. It doesn’t drain properly and the motor board has to constantly keep adjust self. This causes relay and other components to overheat. if you see a bad spot on the board, it can be traced to the cause. I’ve learned to check the pump and that smell of sewage is due to an issue with the drain pump.

I appreciate this comment. I bought my pair used when I bought my house. Been working great until the other day. I am a mechanic so I knew I’d get it done but knew nothing about it going in. Read your comment, cleaned out my filter (which had a dryer sheet blocking it. Now the last 1 minute of the cycle actually only takes one minute, not 15. Now I’ve got good full flow when draining. Hopefully I caught it all in time to save the board. I also back washed the drain hose and filter housing with cleaner and hot water.

How's she goin'? That's a great idea to strip out spare parts form an old machine. Sure saved ya here eh!! Nice fix and how sweet is it to have clean sox to start the week!! Take care!!!

Being a packrat has finally paid off. Those spare boards have been gathering dust for a couple of years and I wondered if I'd ever need them...now I won't ever throw anything out again...haha We picked up this washer dryer set for $100 four years ago and all I've had to do prior to this repair is buy a new drain pump for the washer for another $100. Not a bad record so far and we have used them a lot. Collecting parts can be somewhat of a disease though...I can hardly drive past a good looking washing machine or dryer these days...I see the potential in the parts. That's how hoarders start filling a 20 acre property!! I'll have to be careful.

Great fix on the washing machine, it is very handy to have some spare parts. It is great being able to take lots of pictures of parts, it was a bit harder in the days when you had to get the pictures developed before you could see them. I did not see too many coins in the filter :-)

I wish there had been coins in the filter. Maybe next time. Instant photos have changed the world and sometimes for the better as in this example…not so much in some other ways. I hope you found this of some use and interest. Thanks for commenting.

Not everyone has a spare board…
@EverydayProjects Жыл бұрын
You are right. Not everyone has a spare board but they are available. Sometimes they are for sale on ebay, (that's one of the best places to look for a used one). Find the part number on the board and type that into a search bar at the top of the ebay site, or on any appliance parts website. Otherwise, new or used boards may be found at appliance repair shops in your area. Many shops will order and sell them for customers to install themselves. The best, and safest route, however, is to have an appliance technician provide and install the board but that's not for everyone either. I got my spare boards from identical machines that were put out on the roadside for pickup and had them stored for just such an eventuality. All the best of luck with your repair, and by all means, if any of it is beyond your technical ability, please have a licenced service tech do the work. Thanks for watching and I hope to see you here again.

@@EverydayProjects Thank You. This has happened before. It’s a summer cottage of mine and while I will have a technician work on it tomorrow. I barely ever use it. This has happened before. I was hoping to somehow hit the right button and make it work. My clothes are in it. Very frustrating. I am a woman alone. I’ll probably just get a new one…

@@galefralin2886 Replacing it with something new may be the best solution. Sometimes it doesn't pay to keep spending money on an old appliance. Bummer that the clothes are stuck inside. I hope you have something to wear while you wait for the new one to be delivered. The technician will be able to get the clothes out. Maybe plug in the machine and try to start a cycle. Even with the code , sometimes the door lock will be released. Always check for good, used machines available in your area. Facebook Marketplace is a popular spot for buying used items. Sometimes there are fantastic deals on used appliances (if you aren't concerned about a matching set) and you will be washing clothes again. All the best to you!
