I know this sounds stupid but my phone is rooted because I wiped the data partition then installed Magisk but I don't REALLY want to erase the data partition AGAIN, is there anyway to backup the /data partition while in the system?

Wow, I can't believe this actually worked!. I accidently turned on "OEM Unlock" again when trying to fix USB issues on my freshly installed Windows 10. The result was me getting a "Custom binary blocked by frp lock" message. So I had to re-install the stock ROM, and then set up TRWP + dm-verity + custom rom again. dm-verity kept failing due to "failed to mount /data" error message. This video saved my evening.

I have a HTC Desire 816 Dual Sim, been wasting time to flash it, but i didn't realized that is was just Corrupted data on the Data mount, Flashed TWRP to find to that it can't Wipe, somehow stumbled upon your Video, and realized how much easy it was. I followed this guys instructions to the letter... and it worked !.. FOR ME. thank you very much. That "Failed to mount data" has been bugging me for a very long time. Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime SM-570Y. This can be a really tricky process for the uninitiated. I "Soft-Bricked" a couple of heart-stopping moments, but just copied Usmanalitoo, and HE isamanalitoo you rooting your Android. ;+) Cheers.

This worked, thank you. And I wish I could say this helped my cause but ...something updated during a Pie ROM flash, that now won't let me go back to Oreo with a working fingerprint reader. No matter what ROM I flash, unless it's the Stock ROM, it won't recognize the fp reader upon boot up. Whether I clear Dalvik/Cache, All DATA, do a full Wipe, DATA WIPE, REPAIR, FORMAT, nothing allows me to install RR v6.0 or any other flavor, Oreo or Pie, even if over Stock Oreo on a Moto G5+. Tried with several SD Cards, downloading fresh zip files from RR. Any ideas what could be lingering from Android Pie that would survive a F2FS/exT Format?
