Ouch, this happened to me quite soon after the Ryzen launch. I made a whole video series about it investigating the problem and even RMA'ing the RAM directly to G.Skill to let them investigate. What a horror story (with a good ending) that became. Basically G.Skill wasn't aware of the problem at that time and denied anything had gone wrong and wanted to "destroy" my RAM because I had illegally edited the 'read only' SPD information. What a load of crap. After pushing them a lot more and a few WEEKS of time they fixed the SPD information on my modules and sent them back fixed. During that time the community and me pieced together that it was their own software killing the RAM. I have since had it installed without the software and it's been working fine. Good to see they now at least seem to acknowledge the problem, no insight on a fix though. Also all attempts to contact them about this issue and updates about it have been met with silence. So G.Skill RAM might be nice, their RMA division is horrible. :( p.s. Thaiphoon burner is definitely your best option to resolve the issue once it occurs!

Look further, you'll find it happens with Intel systems too. Gskill's recommendation was to not use any software that even touches smbus.. You know, things like oh.. hwmonitor. or cpu-z. At least the developer of Thaiphoon is a helpful person. known to give specific examples of how to repair gskill 's corruption. Good product. Been around for years.

Earliest complaints seem to be after using gskill software. I doubt anyone is buying it and not wanting to use the software (Lights. want pretty lights! the gskill software makes more pretty lights) linustechtips.com/main/topic/750178-g-skill-trident-z-problem/ intel guys first. ryzen owner chimes in not long after gskill forums? www.gskill.us/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=67 I haven't counted. Intel platform owners are certainly represented there with various problems using their tridentz RGB. Not limited to corruption. Then again they may not have gotten past "why is my rgb broke?" yet. Ryzen owners seem to be hitting on possible corruption sooner, judging by thread titles. www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=14416 hints at extra special trick of getting corrupted when smbus is write protected. intel platform . That should not be possible. Hints that changing the rgb at all, any software or platform, can fubar it ( mah pretty lights :-I ) Buried within the crosshair owners thread on overclock.net are a few references from users who had to use taiphoon to recover corrupted spd tables and apparently find corruption later. Without gskill software being used. Would dig more but I'm lazy . Some might ave the habit of checking their tridentz rgb for corruption even without signs of trouble. probably a good way to avoid having to bug your buddy for that mobo in the future I would check my intel rigs. (Free version hurrah!) but I do not have the gskill pretty lights with the software I'd be worried about running in them. Like the way they look and can be changed. sucks that using them fully is probably bad :(

My first Trident-Z RGB 3200 set went out pretty early in my Ryzen build, with the software version before 1.00.08. G.Skill sent me another set and didn't say a word about the cause. I didn't use the software for a while, but then installed .16 and a couple sticks went bad a couple days later. I haven't sent it back yet. I may try the software mentioned for fun. I switched to Corsair 3000 RGB. it's is slightly slower and the software doesn't have as many cool effects, but I haven't had an issue. I do want my Z RGB back though.

Yes, I'm using Corsair Vengeance RGB LED DDR4 3000. Corsair's last update to the Corsair Link software allows me to change the colors and pattern as well. I haven't had any problems from it.

I tried to fix my 3200 set with Thaiphoon and screwed things up further. Turns out, despite being labeled as such, nobody had the proper files for the exact F4-3200C16D-16GTZR that I had. My set is currently on RMA and I'm planning on saving the SPD files first thing. I'm also going to upload the profiles to the Thaiphoon database so that gap should be filled soon. Anyways, my point is, don't try to fix it unless you're absolutely sure you've got the right files.

On my threadripper 1950x the culprit is the RGB fusion of Gigabyte, corrupted the XMP of 1 of my quad channel ram and Thaiphoon Burner solved the issue. It's not the ryzen but the mobo software. There's a video too for Asus Aura Sync so beware using this applications.

+wajinshu Sure, but it comes down to a Ryzen incompatibility issue with the software. Which is why G.Skill recently released Ryzen versions of the RGB RAM. It's a mixture of both and happens far less frequently with the software on Intel systems.

I just knew this problem yesterday, been using older ram (not RGB) F4-2666C15Q-32GRR not this G.skill Trident. Didn't knew this problem can rendered the ram useless until I saw this video. I'm just using the RGB Fusion on the motherboard though 'cause my Ram have no RGB (bought it on 2015). Yeah no problems like this on Intel. Been using this ram from my i7 5960x rig with XMP. I just thought why the timings and the XMP suddenly dissapeared in the bios. Thought my ram have hardware defect. Thank you for the info and this video. It's been a month since my XMP dissapear and I'm pulling my hair 'cause threadripper needs quad channel (have stability issues as well when OC) and I'm resorting to buying new set of DDR4 Rams (G.skill trident). Glad I saved money. Seen a KZbinr with this kind of tutorial too. All are fix now :D

What I'm learning is that support for RGB RAM software is terrible for AMD systems, and if RGB RAM is important to me, I should stick with Intel. Unless some of you have a good, stable Ryzen RGB RAM configuration that lets you control the LEDs on the RAM. I'd love to hear about that.

according to G.Skill site "The software will conflict with other LED lighting control software (such as ASUS Aura, Gigabyte Fusion, MSI Command Center/Mystic Light, NZXT CAM, etc.). Please do not install both software at the same time, or there may be software conflicts. We will be working in future versions to improve compatibility between the different software programs." Have you tried to install Aura and leave trident software uninstalled? and vice versa? As far as I understand conflict may occur if both software were installed.

Been running my Ryzen 1600x with TridentZ RGB (2400) for 2 months now and yes, I'm using G.Skill's rgb software. overclocked my GPU (RX 480) and CPU no problems. lol

Had the same issue with my TridentZ RGB 3000 outta the box with my 1700x and Asus x370 prime...Had to RMA 1 stick. They turned it around fast and had it back the next week.

With the speed it was yes, then bios update NO, then last bios update YES! I have the C15 version at 2933 right now.

Thank you for the answer. I'm going for the 3200mhz C16 version. The C14 are a lot more expensive from where I come from, and there's no C15 version of 3200mhz. Unfortunately only MSI boards offer the support for it so far, but the newest Asus Rog Strix boards are too appealing for me to pass. I'm guessing yours is a Samsung B-die variant maybe? Mine is Hynix, so not the best news for me. I guess I'll have to wait for Asus to move their asses towards supporting it, if it's not going to reach the full speed yet.

Tech who had the same problem and Gskill refused to get his RAM sticks in warranty... :( Maybe you've already watched them but I think it would be cool to share these informations ;) By the way, could you tell me what speed you can get from these 4x 8GB kit with your Ryzen 7 1700 ? :) I have a R7 1800x and a Gigabyte AX-370 gaming 5 and I'm planning to probably buy the same 32GB kit (in 4 sticks so 4x 8GB) for my own build. Switched from ryzen 1600 to 3700x on my msi B450 gaming pro carbon and my trident z royal 3200 had the same issue, the system just won't boot up because of the RAM. Good to know that mystic light is the problem.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE HOLY SHIT. I have been pulling my hair out trying to nail down what the hell is going on. I have 2x8gb G Skill sticks. I have been using Armoury Crate to control the RGB and I've have gotten countless BSODs. I even upgraded to a new mobo (ROG X570 Elite) thinking my old one was dying. As I type this, I'm staring intensely at my ram sticks like I'm about to whip my belt off and give em a lesson.... All jokes aside, they are both recognized by my computer, but only one stick's lights are working and they strobe like crazy on boot. I've uninstalled that crap Aura Sync but crazily enough, I still see the icon pop up in my system tray for a few seconds before disappearing. Before opting to buy Thaiphoon Burner (yet another 3rd party software) I'm going to see if I can simply reset my ram to stock and make sure Aura Shit is off my computer for go. I'm just glad someone make a video about this and I can finally know what is going on.

I hope this is fixed in the newer lots of Gskill. I decide, too be safe, too get the GTZRX, with the X being the important part, because those are specifically made to work with Ryzen without issues. I'll be building my new gaming PC in a week or so, and I have 32GB (4 - 8GB) sticks of this Gskill RAM. 🤞😬

Oh shit! This happened to me after I updating my mobo bios to latest AGESA (1.0.0.6). But, I'm not sure if my issue is the same as yours as my 1 stick of 2 gave me BSOD. I'm using RAM by Corsair I already RMA though. Still waiting for their feedback.

I have the same RAM in my NZXT computer that they built, and one of the RAM sticks started doing this, and I can only run the computer with 24GB of RAM now instead of 32GB. This computer is using an i9 processor though. I tried fixing the one stick but it won't let the computer run without randomly restarting when installed :(

Aura software in general crashes in a completely stock h270f board when asked to sing and dance. Default or static become actual only options. Off is not an option. I am speaking of mobo and gpu lights, not the much wanted Trident.

I know it may be a long shot of someone seeing this and I'll probably take this to reddit after here. But I'm currently having an issue with my ram. I already had 2 8gb trident z neo 3600 installed and running properly with xmp enabled. I just recently purchased 2 more of the exact same sticks of ram but now when I enable xmp it just crashes to the point I get blue screens and error codes. I've tired turning it down from 3600 to 3200 and raise the voltage up from 1.35 all the way up to 1.4 and still doesnt work and even when I lower it to 1.3 at 3200 it doesnt work. And I now no longer have a boot drive in the process

It does recognize both and no performance issues i think anyways! FFS, had to buy this set for frikkin Asus board! Should i just use my warranty or try n fix it?

Now i see this, after ordering a pair of corsair sticks my 1st set gskills from 2019 went smoothly after i added the 2nd set in 2020 i experienced the same issues trying different configurations, getting a lot of BSOD's with different stopcodes each time. i determined there was 1 bad stick that prevented booting from the 2020 set. but could it be this ram " infected" my good set of ram? since they are giving me the same kind of issues but more at random, i guess at high load. the device is still workable, but its starting to get troublesome. shame i have no intel machine to try and recuperate these 2 sets, just sent an email to gskil RMA tomorrow i receive my new corsair set, lets hope the problems are fixed by replacing the gskills by corsair

So i have the trident software, as well as mystic light 2, and sapphires software for my gpu lighting, cuzz mystic sucks. Now my ram has not failed working. Still been working since day 1, just the rgb lighting on all sticks stopped working. After doing some research, and all of it points to the Spd wacked settings from the software. So should i try to reflash the ram spd using this tool? I did for like 2 weeks have the rgb working and was able to customize it many times.

Hello from 2022. Companies have at this point had many years to work this stuff out and I can tell you that this ram in particular still doesn't play nice with anything else without a ton of work. To make matters worse the GSKILL rgb software to control their own ram is garbage tier and doesn't have anywhere near as much customisation as every other brand. Avoid trident Z RAM if you are using a mix of other brands in your system and want this admittedly awesome looking RAM to coordinate with all of your other lights.

I have a x399 and am having some issues with my TridentZ RAM not being detected with the software. I did a read of the SPD information and I got CRC's errors, BUT when I scanned another stick with a good CRC then then bad one again it said CRC OK. So every few times I scan the CRC is OK. WTF?!

I will try unistalling gskill software everytime I boot opera or stees a bit the pc is shutting down and won't start up.... Only the ram is new bought it 2 days ago

Holy fuck I just fixed my ram stick using this method. But I had to install lightning control bullshit on the Intel pc and change effects and only then thaiphoon burner successfully wrote SPD. hoooly shit thanks man!
