Great video! The BEST reason to shine your brass is it's easier to find on the ground

It does help! However, when shooting 300 blackout suppressed it gets very scuzzy.

If you have Green brass try Flitz tumbler/media additive..... If you put it directly on the brass or a cloth and rub it on, it instantly changes it back to it's original color... You will see it leave a black residue on the cloth... Normally used in a vibratory cleaner but works both ways.... It's amazing....

Piece of advice: add the polisher to the media without the brass and let them tumble alone for a few minutes. This will ensure even distribution of the polisher and avoid portions of it to get trapped inside the brass before entering in contact with the media and form clusters that will have to be cleaned by hand later. It happened to me once or twice so I changed my process slightly.

Hey Country Boy! I knew I liked my dry tumbler for some reason! A little Cred video for the dry tumbler! !! ; )

Throw in some dryer sheets in the dry tumbler to help with dust. And you only need a capful or so of the polish. Glad you had good results.

Kevin Joseph yeah I figured I used too much.

Yep Country Boy! I only use dry tumbler and it only takes 3 tsp of cleaner in all that walnut medium. The best part is you get a nice shine on the brass and you don't need to dry your brass after cleaning it.

I bought a reload setup about a month and a half ago. Ended up getting about 25,000 pieces of brass, half of it was in a container that took on water during a flood and sat for about two months or longer. It had steel cases in the mix so it was beyond dirty, wet tumbling for 2 90 minute sessions got it clean. Some of it shines like new but some came out dull as well some with a pink or purple tint. After a run in a vibratory tumbler using NuFinish and the exact same course walnut it really shines. Check your primer pockets for a piece of that media stuck in the flash hole. I paused the video at 2 minutes to post this but I am sure it did the trick.

P.S. try cleaning your stainless steel pins as well. I did and the brass came out with a better shine.

i did the same thing.i had shoulder surgery a few months ago and in the morning before the surgery i wasnt thinking about it and i ran a batch of brass through my wet tumbler. all the drugs i was on from the surgery just want to sleep so i forgot about them in the water. they were a purple color the next day. i ran them in my dads dry tumbler with walnut and with a carwax. and ran it for 24 hours. they came out perfect. if you ever want to see the pictures of the brass before and after i still have them :)

I like to use crushed walnut with nu finish polish after i lube my brass to resize it, make it look almost brand new
@bassamahmad19277 жыл бұрын
about a tsp of nufinish and 1TBSP of mineral spirits will make the dirtiest brass shine like new. The mineral spirits add something more. run the tublmer with the mineral spirits and nufinish for about 10 min before you add the brass so the wet clumps of walnut dont stick in the shells and effect the polishing efficiency. Next batch nu finish isnt required but i always add a splash of mineral spirits to rejuvinate the blend.

I tumble my brass the first time in a dry tumbler and use the red media with a tablespoon of nu finish car polish and tumble for at least 3 hours. Ilooks like new when it gets done.

I never ran into that before, That is so strange. It had to be a chemical reaction from the lube that you used. I try to stay with Dillon lube. But that has me baffled. But what you did worked, So I learned something new. Thanks for sharing.

I pretty much stopped using Lemi Shine and just staying with my tumbler and corn cob from Lyman. The wet tumbler is great for getting the inside clean from what I've seen but not shinning the brass.

I'm relatively new to reloading. Up until this week I had only ever used a wet tumbler. I'm beginning to realize that both dry and wet have their merits. I think wet excels at cleaning, especially the inside and primer pockets. Dry seems to polish better (when done properly.) I'm definitely going to incorporate both in the future.
@chevy62997 жыл бұрын
I don't have a wet tumbler so I'll still to my corn cob but I keep eyeballing wet tumblers, maybe someday I'll take the plunge. This is my 5th year for reloading so about the same for both of us.

Have you ever tried walnut media? Everyone complains about dust but it didn't seem bad at all to me.
@chevy62997 жыл бұрын
No I still have the container I bought at Walmart over 3 years ago. I'm probably the only reloader that actually saves money reloading because I just don't shoot that much when I go.

I read somewhere that some people following a wet tumble will shake/towel dry the majority of the moisture out of the brass then put it straight into a dry tumbler. Supposedly the dry media soaks up the remaining moisture from the brass to finish the drying process while polishing at the same time. I've never personally tried this as I currently only have an ultrasonic cleaner so take that for what it is worth.
@GigsTaggart7 жыл бұрын
Just a tip, don't pour nu finish on the brass. Put it in the media first. Mix evenly. You can get clumps in the flash hole that do not come out on their own doing it that way.

You need to clean your stainless steel pins with Simple Green every 3 to 4 tumblings. The pins will get dull or a blackish color, that's when you know it's time to put some Simple Green in with some water and tumble with no brass for about an hr.

I think your using to much Lemi Shine ? That happened to me once, cut back and the green was gone :-) Just too much dust with the dry tumble :-( But they sure look all shinny !!!

Ya if you use too much of any citric components it'll wear away the zinc

Lesson learned, but super clean bright polished brass is hard on your bolt. The tarnished looking brass grips the sides of the chamber, the bright shiny brass doesn't. I love shinny brass as much as the next guy, but. Wet tumbling is all I use, but only enough soap to remove the sizing lube, I don't shine it up inside or out.

When I use my Hornady ultra sonic cleaner the brass looks great right out of the tub after I rinse it but then after it air dries for a few hours the cases have greenish tarnish and don't look shiny any more. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using distilled water, a mixture of 4 parts water to 1 part vinegar, with a pretty big squirt of dish soap and salt added too.

Bro now reload some ammo and put it in there for about 5 or 10 mins. It will come out nice and the wax will put a protective coating on the brass. Then it will stay nice for a LONG time.. Most if not all ammo manufacturers will do this. Glad your happy man. God Bless brother. Hope I did not upset you..
