This is so helpful -- thank you! I appreciate your inclusion of fixing errors in the purl column, since that is where I had made a mistake. Thanks for going slow and explaining it so clearly.

Wonderful. Halfway through knitting a top down cardigan in half fisherman rib, and found that about 30 rows down there was a lone purl stitch 😮. So what do I do? Go to KZbin, and come across your tutorial. Easy peasy, no problem. Sorted. Thank you so much. ❤

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video. I thought I was going to have to tink back 12 rows of knitting to fix a mistake I didn't notice. But after watching this video I was able to just unravel the one stitch and fix things up. Thank you so very much for creating the video!!

Thank you so much!! I feel completely confident correcting a k1b now. I'm knitting a pullover in the round, so I still don't know how to fix the purl columns. I'm fudging my way through hoping the corrected knit columns will hide the mistakes. A tutorial in the round would be greatly appreciated : ) I'm so relieved to have found your video.

I'm so glad you feel confident in fixing the k1b columns! To fix the purl columns, since it's always purls on the RS, you can turn the garment inside out, and pick them up knitwise as I demonstrated at roughly the 8 minute mark of the video. Trying to pick them up from the purl side would be far more difficult than even I would attempt. So the same method applies - you'll just want to do the corrections from the WS (or inside) of your sweater using the method for picking them up knitwise. They'll be purls on the RS of the work. I hope this helps!

@@TheUnapologeticKnitter Oh, thanks so much! I do need a little clarification though. Do you mean to use the same method as I would on the right side (over the two ladders on the stitch, under two, bring the top ladder through), but from the inside of the garment? I’m hoping that’s what you mean as I have mastered that process (I make a lot of mistakes in Frib!). Thanks for responding so quickly. I still have both sleeves to do on my grandson’s pullover, and then I’ll start one for my granddaughter…lots of opportunity to practice my new skill, lol!

@@sml-wf3pb So the method that you'll want to use to fix the purl columns is the one that I demonstrate around 8 minutes - where you go into a knit column on the WS (the inside of your work if you're knitting in the round), and start by going under 2 and pulling the top through, then going under 1 and pulling it through. I hope that's clearer!

@@TheUnapologeticKnitter Thank you again, I’ll try that. I’d love it if you would do a tutorial for correcting mistakes in Half Fisherman’s Rib in the round : )

@@sml-wf3pb You’re welcome! Just to re-clarify: there isn’t a difference in fixing the Half Fisherman’s Rib in the round vs flat. I want to try to find the right way to explain this so please bear with me! In Half Fisherman’s Rib worked in the round we have a {k1b, p1} round followed by an all purl round. In Half Fisherman’s Rib worked flat, the RS rows are {k1b, p1}, which is the same as in the round, and the WS rows are all knits. Knits on the WS create purls on the RS, and vice versa. So, we’re creating the same fabric whether we work flat vs. in the round, we're just using the opposite stitch on the non-k1b rounds. We want to fix the k1b columns on the right side of the work because they present as knit stitches (they look like V’s). And since a purl on the RS (when knitting in the round) creates a knit V on the WS/inside, we want to fix the purl columns on the WS of the work. This will be the same whether you work flat (knitting on the WS side) or in the round (purling on the RS). So, to fix the purl columns, I recommend you turn your work inside out so you’re fixing the purl columns from the WS, which is basically fixing it in the knit columns. That’s what I’m showing in the video at the 8-minute mark. Does that help clarify? Truly, another video won’t change anything since if I demonstrated it in the round, I would just turn the work inside out to work the repairs on the purl columns. I don’t fix my purl columns on the RS whether it’s in the round or flat, I always fix them from the WS so I’m picking up the stitches knitwise.

My question is how to do it when you have lost several stitches off your needle in a row (say about 6) and they have travelled down about 8 rows. It seems really hard as the loops across are so big with such a gap. Any suggestions?
@TheUnapologeticKnitter
@TheUnapologeticKnitter Ай бұрын
ooh - that is a trickier one. I think if I were in your shoes I’d put a locking marker into each of the dropped stitches and work up each column individually. You can start at the left or right but work each column side by side - don’t skip back and forth between the edges. Your first few columns may have some wonky stitches (loose) but as you pick up the adjacent columns they will neaten up (and even more so with blocking). Good luck!!
