How to fix HP LaserJet 4250 jam in tray 2 solenoid sticking.

My 10 year old 1022 started picking up a blank page in between printed pages (not stuck together) your vid sent me down the right path the first time. Didn't use foam on the solenoid but I found 1 strip of Gorilla black duct tape raised the arm to perfect parallel with the solenoid head. Put together and all works flawlessly. Very nice! The printer was working just fine when printing few papers here and there. But yesterday, i ran about 2000 sheets and it was getting problematic by the end, really difficult actually. Probably since the printer was getting hot and the sticky stuff aggravated. 13.20.00 error code, getting stuck here and there, feeding double sheets etc. Once i did the Solenoid fix (4 coatings with electrical tape), and removing bunch of other paddings-gone-sticky, i ran about 1000 sheets and it was ROCK SOLID. No issues, just the joy of printing. Super nice! Thank you very much. EDIT: Be warned when lifting the Top Cover @ 1:06. There's a cable that's attached to the board, so be gentle there. The cable is for the display screen.

I put tape on the other tab on the solenoid and it took me 3 times to get it right. First, it was too much tape and it kept giving a 13.01.00 then I put a little more and now I think I got it right. Thank you for the time you spent recording this, it really helped me.

Thank you so much! I've had this printer for 10 years now and This has been occurring for probably the past 6 or 8 months and in the past week (I don't print much) it's been maximum 1 page pulls properly. I did what you recommend and it was a breeze. I printed 11 pages in a row with no issue!

Thanks Jay for posting this video. My 4250 would print about six or eight pages and then jam paper under the registration plate. This must be a very common problem with these printers. Easy fix. Didn't cost me a dime. Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!

I use thin brown self adhesive felt pads obtained from fabric store. I cut them to fit the solenoid where the old pad was, works great, I use them on sticking exit flags as well.

I bought a maintenance kit to replace all the rollers and still had this paper jam issue. I used electrical tape on the solenoid plate and it’s working great now!

Thanks a lot! Für unsere deutschsprachigen, verzweifelten Reparierer: Dieser Fix funktioniert. Habe alles andere probiert, immer nach 1-2 Seiten drucken wurde eine weitere total verknittert mit eingezogen, dachte zuerst es wären die Rollen im Papierfach. Beim nächsten drucken Papierstau und dadurch manchmal auch ein verklemmter Papierstausensor (für diese permanente Staumeldung gibts andere Videosn für die Behebung). Tatsächlich ist bei diesem Elektromagnet ein Schaumstoffpolster verbaut, der rein durch das Alter in sich zusammenfällt. Restlos entfernen und mit Tixo wie beschrieben reparieren, dass der Bügel parallel aufsitzt und den Spulenkern nicht mehr berührt. Wow, mein HP 4250n hat keine Papierstaus mehr! Die Anleitung ist sehr gut, ich würde nur beim Zusammenbau das Top-Cover vor dem Aufsetzen bereits wieder verbinden, damit das Fummeln am Displaystecker leichter fällt. Danke, danke, danke!

My Samsung CLX 6220 when printing would click one time, now something keeps turning, as a result 100% paperjam in paperturning unit. Thanks to this video found this relay like thingy (solenoid?). Made suggested changes reassemble and hoppa. Many thanks hope other clx user can use this video.

The key thing to remember about this fix is that the tape doesn't exist to keep the bar from sticking. It acts as a spacer to keep the bar from getting too close to the electromagnet, and sticking. I did this repair using another video, and he suggested using electrical tape on the solenoid frame - not the bar. It fell off quickly, and I figured it wasn't necessary. The jam kept happening, but less frequently. I now understand that you need some space when the bar / solenoid closes, and the tape does that for you. You can tell if you have enough when you close the bar by hand, and it's parallel to the electromagnet plate. Not angled at all.

Thank you for the information in this video, this looks as if it is the problem with my 4200dtn. I would suggest though, that you record these without the background music, because whatever music you choose it will annoy some people. I was unfortunate enough to find the background music really annoying all the way through, and only my determination to find a solution to the problem kept me going.

Jay Groh why tape on the solenoid arm? The solenoid isn't expensive and most simply replace it with idea "if you have to take it off to clean or lubricate it, you might as well replace it."

1. Because its a quick solution to a problem when you dont have a spare solenoid. 2. Its a cheap solution when the solenoid is still good but just needs the separator pad. Why spend money and replace a good part when you can simply fix it? The tape is used as a replacement for the worn out pad. When the pad wares out it gets sticky causing the jam in tray 2 issue. The tape is needed to to keep the the plate from directly touching the solenoid or being too close to it. If the tape was not there the plate would stick to the solenoid due to the excess energy left when solenoid is deenergized which would still cause the error.

Just letting you and all of your Viewers know that if your printer is making a click , click , click noise and not get an error and the tray does not raise they will need to follow your instructions and replace this Solenoid , I just had repair a printer doing this. Also I have in the past repaired the Solenoid like your suggestion but have at times had to go back and replace the Solenoid due to failure so I have since been replacing the old ones to save my self time. Part for the replacement is RK2-0269-000 .. Part is only 25.00 and worth the cost so your not having to replace a faulty part at a later time..

Could this work for a P3015? I have a few of them that are clicking really loudly when feeding from tray 2, and they constantly feed sheet after sheet and jam if printing a job of more than 2 or 3 sheets.

I think so. I may have tried it a long time ago but don't remember. It may be harder to get to. Best thing to do is search for a service manual for the p3015 and take a look.

@@JayGroh I think I tried one time, and I gave up because of how deep it seemed I needed to go to get to it. Unfortunately, I have a fleet of these, and as of yesterday I have 4 with what I believe is this exact problem. Every other failure in this device I've been able to fix myself. Fusers, rollers, separation pads, network issues from software bugs, etc.

If I remember right some of those gears may pop off if not careful. As old as the 3015 are we just started to replace with a newer HP or go with a service contract with Canon copiers so I dont get to do much repair anymore. Which is a good thing because I hate printers. I'm pretty sure we got rid of all the 4250 printers and while we had them I never had to repair any of the ones with the solenoids I fixed. I'm sure if the 3015 has the same issue then this fix will work. Just might be a bigger pain to get to.

@@JayGroh (same guy, dif account) I ended up tearing one apart today and basically did the same thing as you did here. The pad that the top plate pushes against was completely gone, and the adhesive from it seemed to be everywhere. I cleaned it with alcohol, and wrapped the top plate with some masking tape, worked like a charm now. It was just a horrible time getting to it and then putting it all back together.

WOULD WHITE ELECTRICAL TAPE WORK TO WRAP IT? THIS IS FOR RANDOM JAMS IN THE MIDDLE OF OR AFTER PRINT PROCESSES? Yes this is what usually causes the extra blank page to get jammed. If this does not fix your issue I would be very surprised. Mainly because if this did not fix your issue I dont know what else would cause a blank page and jam especially if you changed out the rollers. I dont think electrical tape will hold up for the long term but you can try. I could see it get sticky like some electrical tape does.

Common problem ever since the beginning! SX ( HP II & HP III), EX(4,4m,4mplus,5) NX (HP IIIsi and HP 4si). Jams at pick-up, roller or solenoid!

funny how multiple printers maker and models have the same problem in my case kyocera fs 1010 funnyly enough i have 2 , one works without tape, the other get stuck until i put tape on those solenoids, but one layer of electrical tape was enough for my kyocera
