i would do some interpolation around the areas that was changed or you might get some bucking at certain rpm's

well done mate, though I would probably not go by the max values but do a couple passes using the averaged ones, just a thought otherwise your High Octane table will diminish and resemble the low Octane one too much

I believe there is a flaw with this method that needs to be accounted for. The spark decay rate will permit knock retard in other cells, where there may have been no knock at all as the spark retard decays down to 0, unless of course the scanner is programmed to omit logging knock in a state of decay. Smoothing should probably be mentioned also, as a 7 deg subtraction next to a cell with no correction is going to make for a pretty jagged spark table, not to mention some PCMs will go haywire with that kind of coarseness. Some beginners may not be aware of this and follow the above instructions as is and end up in tail chasing trouble.

How do you tune this out? I don't wanna go tuning the sensitivity if I dont have to though I may have some reverb from modified exhaust or all kinds of crop banging around besides the pistons... lol For real though, what would you recommend to account for the decay? Im seeing in my tables no knock then after the cell hit has passed other cells, it'll show up as knock a few seconds later in the same cells it detected zero knock.. Pain in my a$$.... Thanks for that insight

Now how do you get rid of false knock, cause I can subtract 3 times the timing as there is knock and it will still knock same amount. I'm thinking its clutch chatter at this point. Pretty well always in cylinder 4 on i4

@@TheTuningSchool well based on this, my knock is false. I have reduced timing , added fuel, added ethanol to my tank for higher octane and I spray about 1000cc meth , I still get random knock here and there in boost. Not usually though,the more I get into it it goes away. And the light throttle stuff is still there randomly. Have run like this 3 years and its still going lol and I never heard an audible ping. So thanks this really helps ease my mind

What if you have no knock but some ignition correction between 3.5k-5k rpms. How bad could that be over long term

Is it worth shortening the knock retard decay for this exercise? Otherwise couldn't the decay rate have you permanently retarding cells that do not need it?
