Fixing girl friends 2001 Lexus RX300. Just did the window actuator fix (Thanks KZbin) which involved replacing a unit on the controller board ($28 part on Amazon and $20 to have local PC shop remove bad component and soder new one) and now all the windows go up and down! Now gonna tackle these guys. None of them work except the rear hatch door. $34 gets all four door actuator assemblies on EBay so I am going that route rather than deal with taking them apart to the the $2 part inside. Thanks so much through for detailed video on how to get to the main assembly.

Thanks AGAIN for the video! I have successfully completed this on a Toyota Avalon. To help anyone else, the 2001 Toyo Avalon (and probably all 2000-04 models) uses a round shaft like the one in this video and has a 10 MM shaft. Search ebay for "FC-280PC-22125 (ROUND SHAFT)" the motor that works for Avalon models measure roughly Shaft (ROUND) 2mm diameter x 10mm length / Canister: 24.2mm Diameter (18.3mm on flat sides) x 30.5mm long Overall Length: 45.0mm (Tip to Tail)

I tried on the front door but I'm stuck on trying to get the window button wood panel off and also how to pull the lock assembly out to replace the actuator. I actually purchased a full actuator unit from ebay vs splitting open the actuator unit and replacing the little motor. I replaced the rear doors just fine following your clear video. Now I'm kind of stuck working on the front doors. I tried to pry the wood panel off just like the rear wood panel but it made a small crack sound and I had to stop. Thanks again for a wonderful video for the rear doors.

The large wheel inside the actuator is under spring load, so be careful to keep it in place when opening the actuator housing, otherwise it will be a chore getting it set back in the correct position.

Good idea. But it is too much work. And you are not going to use you car forever. Aren't you? If you put original Mabuchi motor in your actuator, it will probably last 200k km more

Thx for sharing. By any chance would you know what would cause the doors to keep making a clicking sound when you lock them? I replaced the front passenger actuator and the doors wouldnt lock or open by remote control. I disconnected the battery and checked all the fuses and it works now, but make a double clicking sound when locking the car.

I tried with a vise , vice grip etc but could not remove the bushing on the motor shaft. Eventually I cut the shaft off but still could not punch out the shaft from the bushing.

I had to destroy my door panel to get in there; the door lock/actuator was all jammed up and wouldn't move either way. It was a mess. But once I had the actuator replaced, I went to the junkyard and got another door panel for 20 bucks.

Sir, my car i20 front left door sometimes lock and unlock or halfway lock or halfway unlock when operated either by driver side inner central door lock handle or using key from outside the driver side. However, all 3 other doors are ok in both cases. Also, to be noted is that when either operated from the right left door inner lock handle or using key from its outside, this particular door operates normal lock and unlock system and all 3 others ok too. Please really help me some suggestions. Thanks.

Problem solved. I verified that the new motors were turning in the opposite direction than the original. OEM clockwise, new ones anti-clockwise. So after some thinking and measuring of the DC voltages across the 4-pins of the Rear doors during lock/unlock, I connected wire 1 to pin 2, wire 2 to pin 1, wire 3 to pin 4 and wire 4 to pin 3, no matter from which end you measure

thetrick4fun... My actuator seems to have plenty of some kind of factory grease. There seems to be a small bit of black stuff in just a few areas. Not sure if from motor or residual particles from me forcing clamshell open... Or both. Anyways I was originally going to add some lithium grease to whatever lube is currently in the gears but then I wondered if you can mix the lubes or not??? Then I googled it and it seemed like it might not be a good idea (since I dont know what the factory lube specifically was). Did U completely clean the gears of lube before putting on the new lithium or did U just add it to whatever was already in the clamshell? Did U use any specific kind of solvent? Waiting to hear back from you before I put the clamshell back together.

Good video but most motors will work with the opposite polarity. Lots of horror stories about guys with one lock unlocking while the others lock and vice versa. I just bought reconditioned OEM full units from eBay for $100 each. I had to do all four. Remember that when one goes out the others aren’t far behind.

When reinstall make sure check it to see if the door handle plastic folk engages with the actuator's trigger. The trigger should stay inside the fork in order to open the door by pulling the door handle. If mistake, a lot more work to get the door to open.

I got this totally completed (crazy glued together) and then realized that I transferred the black tape to the wrong side of the replacement motor (thus POSSIBLY making the electrical contacts less secure and / or POSSIBLY creating very slightly misaligned gears). That being said, it functions perfectly. Do you think putting the tape on the wrong side of the motor is anything to worry about? Your opinion on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it is a problem. I guess they put this tape just to make the motor sitting tight in the box. I wouldn't remake it. IMHO

No, I don't. It is not difficult to diagnose it. Usually, the motor doesn't break all of the sudden. Usually the actuator starts working bad by not locking the door all the way. Look the video at 0:18, the actuator is trying to lock the door. If everything is fine, when I lock my Lexus, it makes one short beep, and all doors are locked. When the actuator was bad, I locked doors, but there was no beep. All doors were locked, but one. So, I pressed the lock button again, and at that time the car made 2 beeps, and all the doors were locked after that. The car's computer checks if all actuators are locked, and after that makes the beep. If at least one of actuators is not locked it doesn't make beep until it is locked. When I locked the car first time the bad actuator locked a door a half way. When I tried to lock second time, the actuator finished locking (all doors were locked) and the car made two beeps - one for first time, and another one for second.

Luciano, That is strange. Your motor probability has wrong polarity. You can take it apart and compare old motor and new motor if they have the same polarity. You can use 9v battery to do that.

Hi, I followed your instructions and bought 4 motors from ebay. Only the 2 rear doors and the driver door motors needed replacement. But when I finished this strange thing happens: Unlocking the doors using either the car key or the driver's central locking button, when the front doors unlock, the rear doors are locked. And when the front doors are locked the rear doors are unlocked. Can you figure out why? Are all motors the same or the Left door motors are different from the Right motors? The actuator has been replaced but my door on the passenger side is still sticking? The window still goes up and down but sometimes you'll have to play with it to make it work. Ranikia Allen could try using some time of silicone spray if it’s sticking. I’ve used it to fix my window having trouble going up and I’ve used it to get a ticking sound out of my air con blower fan. Great stuff

I am working on a 2005 RX330 with a similar motor. After applying 12 volts of DC current directly to the motor's electrical contacts and giving it a few turns, I was able to get the motor to spin successfully. I attempted to clean the motor using contact cleaner and tested the motor one more time to make certain it operated. However, once I reinstalled the motor into the actuator assembly and reinstalled the component into the car, it still would not operate. I will be replacing the motor or the entire actuator.

The old motor will never not work as good as new one. Maybe without load it spins, but with load it is not powerful enough to fully lock/unlock the door.

Good point. Even if I had been able to successfully get the old motor to engage the lock mechanism I would not place the motor back into the actuator assembly.

Never mind. I found the problem. These new motors are spinning counter clock wise which is different from Oem. I reversed the 2 cables (blue/red, blue/yellow) that plug into the actuator to fix the problem.

The original motors wouldn't rotate after applying 12V DC directly on their terminals. Anyway I checked one of new motors against the motor on the 4th door which was working. They rotate in the opposite direction. I complained to the guy that sold to me the motors but he kept telling me that sI connected them the wrong way . They can't be connected the wrong way, you just push them on their pins.

Great video, very helpful...but you need to mention or show how to reconnect the door handle rod on the back side of the actuator during reinstallation. If the rod is not engaging the tab on the actuator properly, the outside door handle will not work.

Will the $2 motor will work for a long time? Is your 3 old motors also from ebay for 2 doller?

Kushantha Weragama, The first motor that I changed was from the driver side. It was about 4 years ago. I didn't want to wait 2 months (when you order from China) for new motors, so I ordered all 4 motors on the ebay.com with delivery from the USA. I thing I paid about $10. I got them a week after, and they were Genuine OEM Mabuchi Motors. I guess OEM Mabuchi motors will last same long as original from manufacturer did. My guess is that $2 fake one will last at least a half of that time, maybe about 150,000km.

Did this, but the lock is now opposite of the other locks. Any ideas?

I haven’t done this repair but from watching a couple of videos you might be able to switch the two cables that go to the interior handle. I’m assuming these are simply pulled by the actuator when the lock is triggered. If you reverse them I’d think they’d reverse they’re behavior.

@@donaldward183 That won't reverse the motor action. One cable is for the lock, one cable is for the handle to open the door. What you need is the proper motor, or reverse the motor leads that go into the connector and to the motor. A DC motor will run one way with + and - connected one way, and will run the opposite way if you reverse the + and - leads. The motor that you installed is wired backwards from the OEM motor.

The motor you installed is internally wired opposite compared to the OEM motor. You will need the proper motor, or find out which wires go to the connector that drive the motor, then swap them.

swap the wires, the motors work changing the polarity. Just flip the wires and it will work
