If all of your switches are good then your PS2 will need a new motor.

Decided to give up when I had this problem but I did notice that I had pulled out a big hair and the motor wasn’t spinning anymore , and also makes that grinding noise but I’ll make sure to put some duct tape on their and ima go and see if there’s any hair left on the motor

MY gran turismo 3 disc is relatively clean but when I put it inside my Ps2 slim it makes a weird noise and doesn't read the disc. But when a made a few more attempts the disc works perfectly. So my conclusion is that the disc drive doesn't read the disc at first but does work like around the 3rd try. the weird noise only happens when it tries to read a disc, but when the noise doesn't happen the game works.. do I have to do something with the motor or the switch near the power and in the back??

My ps2 has a similar problem, i put the disc on, press power and sounds like the cd spins but then i think it stops spinning and it sends me to the "Browser/System Configuration" screen, i open the case and then close it back and it says "reading disc" but it stops reading it, which leads me to think that it stops spinning, i don't get any "disc could not be read" screen or anything.

Hi i think this is a very Helpful video Thanks. I bought a PS2 Slim today and its not Reading DVD ps2 games but it can read Ps1 games. Also when i put a ps2 cd in it makes a weard sound. I opened the ps2 slim and i checked for the switch in the left and in the right corner the switches are working fine and the ps2 cd is spinning but i recognized that the spinning slows down a bit. It would be nice if u could make a Video how to clean the spindle motor from hair and dust. And i also cleaned the laser and i also see the red laser. I think its the spindle motor. But why it reads ps1 games? Thank you.

Check both of the switches and if that still doesn't work then most likely your motor is burn due to the cause of the hair.

I have a fat and a slim, no pone intended, and the slim seems to be less tolerant for scratch disks. Now, you do need this fix, witch I have, but if the disk is a mess it might work on the fat, but not on the slim.

I have a PS2 Slim Model 2, just like this one. Mine will show the red light and when the power button is pressed it will go green for a few seconds and then go back to red and not power on. I can play with the power button and get it to power on and even boot a CD for about a minute or two but then it just powers off again and goes to the red light. Any ideas or suggestions?
