In this video I repair a PS2 Slim console which has the common problem where the console scratches rings into the outside edge of discs.

Let me throw this out if you have the 79000 model you don't need to follow this step the ribbon cable is held on by plastic tabs and not adhesive

I made a video about this too, but actually the issue is at the white plastic that comes off at the lens connector. Normally it keeps the angle of the cable lower, but once it comes looser, the cable begins to arch higher.

Hi, I checked out your video. The white plastic on the ribbon cable is not an issue I have encountered before but as these consoles get older it definitely seems like something that's worth keeping an eye on, thanks.

Hello, so I have a kinda tough question, I really wanted to fix my original ps2 I got when I was like 12 so I decided to swap the laser, when this happened the disk didn't spin and I decided to get a new ribbon cable. After this didn't work I bought a whole disk drive replacement that has the laser, spinner and motor to move the laser l in a single replacement. So I swapped this in and the laser moves, I see the flash like it's trying to read and on screen it says reading disc for about 3 seconds. I don't think it's the door sensors but it also doesn't spin up when I pressed down the sensors with the top off. I properly took off the soldering point on the laser too and the ribbon cable is new. I'm kinda at a loss of what to do next

If the laser tries to read the door sensors are fine (nothing at all will happen if they are not working.) Does the console make any attempt to spin the disc at all. Or those it start to spin and then stop.

it doesn't attempt to spin and yes I think the door sensors are good since the laser tries to read. I dont know why it wouldn't start spinning up since the whole spindle is also brand new@@EasyConsoleFixes

if needed I can send you a video of the process, I just can't find anything online why it would start spinning if the motor is good

@@alexkaber2472 If the discs were spinning before you tried the first laser swap is it possible that you have damaged the connector where the motor ribbon attaches to the board.

Thanks dude. But my PlayStation 2 slim hated that and didn't want to spin my discs after doing the tutorial. So i gave up and stopped using it after many years of retirement. It's because of a missing screw from the bottom i was trying to look for. But thanks anyways. How stupid of me to do this. 🤦

Could you have damaged one of the two switches that senses when the lid is closed. The discs wont spin if one of these switches is not working. I have a video about these switches if you want to take a look. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6fWdJSaeNp9rLc

@@EasyConsoleFixes one of the switches were fine but don't work. And I try pressing real hard and it still doesn't work.

@@MrIzaiah2007YT If you hold down the switches with the lid open and the console does not try to spin the disc at all, the issue is normally the switches or the ribbon cable which goes to the spindle motor could be not in correctly. If the console spins a little then stops the issue is normally with the laser, either the laser itself or the ribbon cable to the laser.

@@EasyConsoleFixesagain. Same issue. No spinning, nothing. I might have to send my PlayStation 2 to a repair shop in order to get it to function again. But thanks for your help anyways.
