This video didn't fully show you why to do this imo. Fact a Ps3 will shut off for several reasons, some more severe than others. 1. Check the Settings on your PS3 Title screen. The system will shut off after a certain period of inactivity. This is usually the main cause. 2. System will turn off its overheating. This is way more severe than #1. Ideally, the things to do to avoid this from happening. A. Make sure the Ps3 is always elevated off the table, so it can breathe. B. Always keep the Ps3 away from the wall. So it can breathe and circulate air constantly. C. Periodically clean and vacuum the fans in the back will help. D. It's best to keep the Ps3 in a well ventilated room. You can do this by keeping the unit near an open window, but out of direct sunlight or constantly running the A.C. so the room remains cool. E. Turn off the PS3 when not using this is especially important in hot desert climates. 3. This has happened to me but I don't know the cause or solution to this. While playing Resident Evil Revelations 2 occasionally the game will turn itself off randomly. I don't know why. The unit wasn't overheating and it wasn't due to inactivity. It's weird.

it happened to me too when i was placing ac brotherhood this morning, I just turned it on and played it for a few minutes, it hasn't even heated yet but it then randomly shut off on its own

Also guys to add, Run the Fan Test if his method doesn’t work. Make sure the red light is lit. Turn off in the Back of PS3. Place Finger on eject and hold. Turn PS3 on in the back while holding eject to clear any debris clogging the back of system. It will run a fan test.

I would love to do that but my power button doesn't work so well. While loading the game ( any game) it shuts down and the red light starts to flash. Not an overheating problem as it happens within minutes of turning the console on.

What happens for me is I can play any offline game but when it’s online mainly black ops 2 it’ll turn off mid game. I thought it was just over heating but my PS3 is cool but always blowing out hot air. I’ll try this next time it turns off then edit this comment if it doesn’t turn off for half an hour

My problem is that with certain games (not all games) it shuts off after about 5 or 10 minutes in. I'm thinking it is the controller not fully charging. I'm gonna try this after the controller is charged.

my ps3 shut down afther 2 hours of playing online, with the red light blinking, your trick make it go on again, and afther another 2 hours it turn of again, it was a overheating problem, the thermal paste on the psu was dry out, so i replaced it by new thermal paste, It runs yesterday for 5 houres without any problems, today i had the problem again afther 2 houres.

@@cluckingduck2576 , i try everything, nothing works, sometime afther 9 houres its shut down, the fan is not turning at max speed if it ocures, i installed anfan mod controler ,thad makes the fan spin a lidle harder then idle speed, and stil have the schut down problem, i opened the power suply to shek if there are bad capacitors and i cant find any bad, the hdd is only 4 j old. I stil dont know wat it is

I opened mine up and did some major dusting and reapplied new thermal compound. I played doom 3 for 2hours, No issues. I play bleach resurrection and it turns off quickly or after a few minutes. I'm sure doom 3 takes more cpu/GPU power considering bleach is an anime. So idk what the issue is. At first I thought it was from over heating but i no longer thi k that's the issue. I do think the update thing is possible considering Samsung came out with an update for the note to not charge because some people weren't bringing it back upon recall.
