This is not a serious fix for this, in fact this is quite dangerous. Not sure how to get this fixed for real...
UPDATE 3-30: Roomba has been working great since the "fix." The contacts are not getting warm and he's been cleaning and redocking better than ever. Will keep an eye on it but so far so good.

I am dealing with the same issue right now. I "fixed" it but not sure about the security..... I am so grateful for your video and the many comments, I'm not alone! :-D

Thanks so much for this. I was going nuts trying to figure out why mine wasn't charging. So far, so good.

I know it's been years, but my old Roomba 551 has done a much less serious version of this. One contact is slightly recessed. No obvious melting. I think it's a combination of spending a long time recharging (more if you have a bigger battery, I guess) and bad contact between the charger and bottom of the robot. If either side is dirty or not quite lined up, there's higher resistance at that point and it generates heat, which, apparently, is enough to melt the plastic in some situations. Mine has just barely pushed one contact upwards - enough that if you look at them face-on you can tell they're not square to one another, but mostly fine otherwise. I just cleaned everything and it's working again for now. If the charging dock stops working reliably again, I think I am just going to switch to charging by plugging the cord in directly.

I have a roomba 980. I have had this happen to two different units. They replaced the first for free and it has now happened again with the replacement. I don’t think it was because of your aftermarket battery.

Exactly the same for me! Roomba 980 and happend twice! Takes about 10 months and the connector gets pressed inside the Roomba. They tried to claim it was due to filth, but I keep my Roomba spotless.

That also happened to my roomba. Really weird and dangerous. I wonder if the guys at irobot did something to prevent this issue from happening again....

I have the same problem on a 980. Same side, on original batteries. It looks like a design mistake.

Yep. However mine is still functioning just fine after pulling the contact back down.

Every single roomba I've owned has eventually suffered from the same defect. Recessed charging contact on the same side

I have two Roombas and as you say, they are both melted on the same side. One will still recharge but the other I plug in directly on the side. It is obviously a problem with the Roomba.

Hi, any updates of how your repair held up? I have the exact same problem, called iRobot and they said I needed a replacement. They offered a discount, but still I would rather try to repair first. Thanks.

Pedro Santacruz it's held up perfect, he's still running to this day. No more issues yet.

I have an 870 that did the exact same thing. I had replaced the battery with an official iRobot brand XLife battery. Is yours still working?

It is, still works as good as the day I got it. Just change the filter regularly and the brushes when they wear out.

Yep! Mine is 6 years old. Never had a problem until the original battery stopped holding a charge almost exactly 2 years ago, and I replaced it. It was working fine again until the charging plate issue about 6 months ago. I'm trying your fix using a piece of popsicle stick to hold the plate up. So far, it seems to be charging again.
