I'm a 72 year old lady and with your help I changed the fill valve in my toilet. Thanks for your help, when I got up at 4am this morning the first time I flushed I heard a pop and no more water would go in the bowl. That is my only toilet so I had to go to Home Depot to get the new one. Thanks so much for your video it was a tremendous help.

I had leaking problem with flapper valves, even new Korky and FluidMaster. I installed a Kolher cylinder style and never phantom fills anymore. The only problem with the Kohler is it sits higher in the tank which in turn reduces the volume for a flush. Using a flapper I had a 1.6gpf, now I would guess it is around 1.3gpf. Also, you have to hold the flush level until the bowl completes the flush.

Thanks for this video, I watched other videos and all them recommended checking flapper valve first. Well this style doesn’t have one. The first video with this style wasn’t nearly as helpful as this one. I ended up ordering the rubber gasket seals since leaking flush valve seems to be the problem. It may be a simple fix without taking off etc. then if that doesn’t work I’ll do the parts replacement as well AND have replacement gaskets as well because it’s a set of three. I recommend adding a link for that three pack as well in case people want to go down that route.

Please, How do you stop water from running over canister? Every video address replacing seal at bottom, my issue is apparently with the float adjust? Tried adjusting screw, even took the plastic screw thing off, put it back on, water still rises above top of canister, running every 5 to 10 minutes. Thanks for your help!

The seal at the bottom is the reason the water runs over the top. Follow the steps in the video and it will fix the problem.

Every once in awhile that cannister will remain elevated in my Kohler toilet (and of course the water runs endlessly). I have changed every part in the toilet. I have to lift the cover and simply push down on the cannister rim and the cannister seats and all is good however it is a pain clearing stuff off the lid and lifting it off. Does anyone have any idea what might be binding/holding that cannister up? I dont see anything binding it when I take the lid off.

The chain and the angle of it are putting tension when it goes up and down, holding it to the side and making it hang up. It’s physics, unfortunately the designers aren’t all the sharpest tools in the shed. Just jiggle the handle when you flush and you will feel it drop down as it fills up.

@@NameItBuildIt I see what it is now the chain clasp (mine resembles a cotter pin) binds and interferes with the drop. In other words it hangs up. I will try and look for a smaller connecter maybe something with a round(ish) top. Home depot maybe?

When our Kohler is refilling after a flush, not very much water ends up in the bowl but the tank level is good.. is there a way to fix/adjust that?

Yes, adjust the float with the screw on the fill valve. If that doesn’t work you may need a new fill valve.

@@NameItBuildIt Thanks for the reply. I figured out that ours is a different design than the one in your video. The fill hose on ours is supposed to go into a hole at the top-center of the flush cylinder. I think the plumber that installed it for my mother-in-law didn't know better or was lazy because the fill valve wasn't positioned so the hose could reach it. He left it loose and just pouring into the tank only.

My fill tube keeps popping off the canister. It is really old so the plastic is really hard. What can I do to keep it from popping off (happens about once a month)? I looked for fill tubes at home depot but they don't carry them. I also dont think it will come off of the flush thing on the left. It looks like it is permanently attached on that end.
