Thank you for the video! Although this video was posted three years ago it's still helping us out. The scratched up HVAC control buttons look very tacky. I've been wondering if there was a way to replace the control buttons or if I had to replace my HVAC control unit. Thanks to your video I had discovered that i can simply use stick on control labels. I had just placed my order for $6.17 on Amazon. Thank you for posting this video.

the stickers I used let the light come through and have lasted over 2 years, even though this is typical low quality of these cars, it's a great inexpensive fix.

Funny reading all the comments about this being unique to GM. Got news for you, there are replacement stickers for EVERY brand of car out there. If it's built in the states they also were supplied by the same suppliers. If this appears to be more common in certain GM vehicles (notably GMT900 Trucks) it's because GM just happened to sell millions of them. So more instances of it occurring will be documented. Heck Nissan 350s and G35s are notorious for the entire arm rest, center console, and all of the HVAC buttons peeling. It's such an issue people just repaint the panels.

Most of the stickers allow no light to pass on fan icons so its dark at night, some brands do pass the light on those icons and the others as well.

stickers will fall off when the paint left under the sticker comes loose, you have to remove all the old paint before applying

I had the same problem, my wife's finger nails scratched off the paint on the climate controls and the radio. Since then I sold that Chevy and bought a Ford F250 . But I cant seem to keep it out of the service shop where I bought it! One thing after the other. If I can find a sucker to buy it I'll put a Dodge in the Garage. Gotta say that Chevy never spent a day in any Garage!

I love GM by the way I think they're high quality. I have a 2007 Yukon. And I absolutely love it. It's not cheap by any stretch. I also have a Buick LaCrosse. I like the Quality In that also. Good luck out there people. Don't worry be happy.

Kevin Isidor - Not true at all. GM reportedly spent over a billion dollars developing that generation truck, and it was designed in the early/mid 2000's, as well as the production process established, long before the economy tanked or GM declared bankruptcy. Now the vehicles may have some bad design decisions, or sloppy assembly, but that predates this misconception that they're cheap because of bankruptcy.

My 2006 Kia has the same issue. I don't much mind as it is a 2006 and has well over 200K. But I could see that being needed if it was alot newer and had a crap ton less miles on it. Check your local pick and pull. Might find that cluster foe under $20 as you only need the buttons it would only take a little bit of time to swap it out. Cheers

The used 06 touareg I bought had buttons like this...the soft touch coating doesn't do well with heavy pressure use, lotion/chemicals, or mickey dees French fry greese on the fingers...

I did this,take a pocket knife and Lightly scrape the old paint off of button,put new decal on end of knife then line it up and press into place.Use a Permanent Marker to hide the edges. It looks good in the day but at night the markings are blurry. And to the guy that said"just buy new switches,They ARE expensive!

Pay $200 for a new AC control unit or use the stickers. That's sadly the only two options. I do not understand how no Chinese company has taken it upon themselves to mold actual new buttons that people can popoff their old ones and put new ones on. They'd sell like hotcakes.

Remove the factory black paint with Gun wash (lacquer thinner) then Hole Punch each sticker on the Fan/Heat control then the light will shine threw

@@TheMochaangel If the stickers aren't transparent so light can shine threw.... then you could put a small hole beside each symbol or some where on the button so you can see them at night... be careful with lacquer thinner it can melt some plastics
