Dont use grease. Use fiber grip even if its alloy. Helps a lot creating friction that isnt too abrasive on the metals.

When your putting the clamp on make sure it's the right way round. It should fit entirely on the frame and there's a lip on the inside of the clamp rim which fits around the top edge of the frame. I've just worked this out myself when I decided to take the seat post off to fit a new seat since it was fiddly.

If there's a little play, you could also add some toiletpaper around the seatpost. Cut off any excess protruding from the frame.

That or rusted seatpost, material is gone, rusted away. Another thing can be a seatpost that has been hit and got bent out of shape. Or it could be you ordered a frame + seatpost from China and the machining to tight measurements isn't there.

Double clamp, replaces original and adds an extra clamp that is direct to the seatpost. No slipping once installed.

Also worth noting verifying that it's the correct size; if it's a used bike or a seatpost installed by someone else (I've even heard of improper posts coming out of bike shops) it's always a good idea to check the diameter of your post (cheap digital imperial/metric calipers ought to be fine in this application) and make sure it's the right size. If you don't know the size which your bike is supposed to take then there are seatpost gauges too.

the grease is not for the pole. it's for between the clamp and the frame. the clamp isn't slipping anywhere.

Get a wooden broom handle, cut it to size, stick it in the seat tube followed by seat and voila!!

Step 5: If you have alloy seatpost with glossy finish, then switch to matt one. It really makes a hell lot of a difference.

I recently bought a new bike and the seat's started slipping already. I removed the seat and there's already some paste/grease on the seat post. Do I need to get rid of this before applying a new coat of carbon paste? And if so, how do I clean it off? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I cleaned everything 3 times, used the carbon paste and now it's slipping worse than before. Now I know why my back hurts because it's even worse. I have a Trek Pro Series 1986 in great condition. I may give in and go to bike shop but they probably won't be any help. I may try a new seat clamp. I have a built in clamp in the frame. The paste actually made it worse. Go figure. A little dust was washed off by me, so maybe dust is helpful.

One can purchase shim stock from McMasterCarr. Maybe buy a super thin sheet of UHMW plastic from eBay or whatever. Or some people use a soda can to use as shim stock. It might be worth getting the correct seat post if it’s not sized right. Some measuring calipers or for bonus points a micrometer and telescope gauge will tell one accurately what size is what. Word

And if it's really pissing you off, get a clamp for the post so it stays at a set height. Just make sure it doesn't move left to right

I have already tried 3 clamps, still slipping. Even when I tight it to some extreme (not clever at all) level. It can feel ok for some time, but after you come back hope you can clearly see that it's still slipping.

Mine slips when greased up, and it creaks if it's cleaned (it's aluminium, btw), so I just tightened it up as far as the allen key would go...

Hey buddy, I also live in Poland, what do you think about ? Ultra 920 AF with ultegra 11 or Ultra 900 AF with 105 11 (both with Alluminium fram and carbon fork) and Ultra 900 CF(carbon frame) with 105 11rz? they cost 4800zl, 4200zl and 5800zl respectively. Or should I buy a used Trek,cannondale for that same 4-6k price range? Remember I will be getting lifetime frame warranty on the first 2 Allus and 5 year on the carbon frame not to mention they would be squeaky clean while the used pro bikes like Trek and Cannondale might have had some hidden history behind it but superb frame as we all know. What do you think?

I just got a new Royal Union 21 Speed via FedEx. Im less than a handyman and the instructions enclosed were for a completely different bike. I used visual sense to assemble it. The seat post in your video is my problem. I put into the frame not knowing if I let it go it would fall all the way into the frame. I CANNNOT get it out and I don't want to damage it. Aloy seatpost + aloy frame + carbon grip is really not a good idea. I have stupid squeaking sound with that combination. So, I put teflon grease and that solve problem. On carbon seatpost works really great.

I haven't any problem with slippering. I just try something new. Same frame, same seatpost and same clamp in the same position for 14 years. Just say that carbon grip is not good for alloy components.

I have a quick release on my bike and just replaced my seat with a better one. The only problem I have is that it moves side to side, and not up and down the post. I have tightened the clamp as much as I possibly could as well as the nuts on the seat bolts. I believe it has something to do with the clamp because the seat post is rotating and not just the seat. Please if someone has a recommendation that I didn't mention let me know!

SickBiker I used tom ritchey product. It basically produce more friction so you don't have to tighten seatpost so much thus damaging carbon parts. you apply it like grease to the seatpost. it has very fine sand like grains in it.

You didn’t even fix the first problem you just told us that it isn’t loose. It’s right at the fucking top and I had my dad come out in the garage to make sure it was tight so none of those are the problem and once again you never even gave a solution

Actually, he did. A lot of people don't know that you should lightly grease the post & clamp so everything can tighten properly. He's also working with carbon fiber, which takes a special assembly lube. (Grease will ruin carbon fiber.) If cleaning & greasing doesn't work, check to see if the clamp is bent or deformed & make sure the bolt hasn't stretched.
