I use grease since locktite for me has always had the tendency to seize the bolt and cause you to strip it out when trying to service or change out parts etc. especially when your super hard on it or leave it exposed to elements. I use ceramic grease on the bottom bracket and a anti seize on pinch bolts/crank bolts, stem bolts, seat clamp bolts, head set bolt, brake lever bolts etc. I’ve worked on bikes for over 20 years and the only time I was taught to ever use locktite on a bike whatsoever is if the the threads are wonky and instead of retapping the threads you apply very small amount of blue locktite in the tip of the bolts threads only. Cheers bro cool vid. Especially when it’s new bike or new parts grease or anti seize is the way to go to ensure longevity of parts and ease of service

@Captain McNuggets Good to know. All I know is that on another bmx that I own, it's crank was coming loose so I took it apart and put it back together with grease and it came loose again. Another bmx KZbinr told me to use thread lock and so I did, and everything stayed tight. I've never had to take it apart since.. Hopefully the bolts aren't stuck😁 Thanks for watching 👍

@@thebikehippie6562 right on, that makes sense though because it sounds like a wonky thread in which case the locktite would be a good move, if you notice when you buy new parts or a complete bike brand new and you have to install components look at the bolts, almost always if it has any locktite at all it will be the blue one and it’s already dried on the screw/bolt instead of giving you the liquid because when you first install it’s not to create permanent bond it actually gives that cushion to fill any gaps between the bolts and the tapped threads they go into to ensure a tight connection so it doesn’t come lose but even then, on the higher end stuff they’ll usually include the anti seize grease as well for you to use so it doesn’t cold weld or bond itself to whatever it’s connected to. The locktite can be a life saver on bolts that keep coming lose on used parts or bikes though. It’s situation dependent. That fit you referred to in your videos that hasn’t come lose in years have you tried servicing or replacing anything that would require you to loosen said bolts? It may be so seized it strips trying to remove it

@Captain McNuggets No, I haven't tried taking the fit crank apart. I used red threadlock on my klunkers crank and I didn't have any problems getting them loose.. That said, this will probably be my last how to video, because I'm not a bike mechanic. I don't really know what I'm doing 😂

Gave up on my Redline Flite cranks. Similar pinch-bolt crank arms. The squeak is from the crank arms flexing on the spindle. Happy now with Profile cranks.

Hey, I'm working on a Fairdale Taj (8 spline spindle, 19 mm?) and I'm really confused about which direction to turn the spline cap bolt on the drive side. The left side of the bike was normal (lefty loosey) and then apparently massive force required for the drive side? Idk
@thebikehippie65622 ай бұрын
@shawnmuench Trying to loosen them? They are both lefty loosey. Sometimes, they are very tight, and yes, massive force is required. That and a few swear words 😆

Hey my bolts come loose fast what color loctite you recommend brother?? Please get at me
@thebikehippie65623 жыл бұрын
@Raymond Gman I use red. I have not tried taking my crank apart since this video ( well, I took it apart again and put more grease on the spindle shortly after this) so I'm not sure how hard it will be to loosen the bolts now..So long story short.. I've never tried blue so I don't know how well it will hold, but red definitely works..👍

Witch bike you like better the sunday or the fit STR?

@Gringo 1k Sunday

I've done this numerous times on my fit str and I keep developing squeaks after a while of riding. It seems like my weight is flexing the crank enough to where the grease gets squeezed out from within the splines causing metal on metal contact. Unfortunately, I think my only option is a 48 spline set.
@thebikehippie65623 жыл бұрын
@Hector N That's too bad, I have an STR as well. First crank I fixed was my STR. The Sunday Saker cranks are pretty decent but if you have the coin, 48 spline would be your best option. Probably going to be my next upgrade 🙂
