How to FIX the front axle on a Fly BMW M1 Slot Car!

I keep getting requests for tuning a Fly slot car. There are great videos out there already from Harry Wise and others on tuning Fly Slot Cars. Jorge and Area 51 has a few videos as well. This is just a look at the first things i do to a Fly BMW M1. We tackle the front axle, it has a ton of slop. We fix the slop in the rear axle too. Out of the box to the basic level tuning took an entire second off the time on my track. What I share would take someone 15-30 minutes to complete. I know we could do a lot more.. that will be for another video..

Marty I seen you tune a fly car front to get rid of the slop, I have a fly car with no front axle they just click in the chassis . How can I up grade it.Thanks

Michael, I have put a straight axle in those cars and I have let them independent and fixed the front end with the same brass tubing (1/8"). Basically you cut a piece of brass small enough to fit on the existing axle, slide it over the axle.. widen the hole in the chassis with a 1/8" drill bit by hand.. then snap the axle assembly with the brass sleeve through the wheel and back into the the chassis. Takes out most of the slop. I sill try to do a video showing how i did it..

Hi Marty,I’m a little problem I’m doing a gear change for a up coming race I have a fly gb1 ,porsche 9171/32 the spur gear and the pinion gear I’m useing 6.5 12toothand a blue sidewinder 34 tooth gear gs184-lol the two gears hardly touch each other witch makes it slip can you give me one advise . This is what I was told that we are running.

Well.. you can’t adjust the gear mesh without changing the size of the spur/pinion on the GB/Fly cars.. it is probably going to be trial and error.. let me run through some of my gears on my 917… see if I can find a combination..

Remove the navigator, then true those rear wheels,without tires mounted, and 2102 super tires, I think...Darrell knows which tire.....and from a few days back, Tuesday maybe,...ninco go- cart motor is definitely AFX...just special pinion gear is all,....and I boosted most everyone's motor with BSRT custom wind armature, drive Darrell's go-cart once....it's a hoot!!
