Good question, Derek. You would think that Sony CS would be more helpful, but I've heard stories. In response to your question, you will want to check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poW2p4aGlJVpg6M . That video is a step-by-step tutorial on how to go about changing the settings. This video explains the overall picture of what I experienced and how I went about doing it. In order to log into your router, you are going to need the IP address of the router, as well as the username/password for that. I don't show you how to log in because it changes from router to router, but once you are in, I talk about the settings that I changed to make it all work out for me.

Take an Ethernet network cable and connect the console to your modem.

I wanted to see if connecting your console to the modem changes your NAT type. May be best to keep it connected, since connecting directly to the modem is the best.

While i am in a party it says that someone in the party isnt able to talk with me because of the NAT TYPE. it is really annoying.

i keep lagging oyt of sessions on gta online seconds after joining a session. use to have gta gameshared but had to deactivate that account because the guys brother was getting back on to ps4 gaming. (basicly i had to be on his account start up gta and then switch back to my account) any fix for this bs.

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience in GTA to help you with this problem. My only advice is to check and see if you lag out of sessions in other games. If you do, then it's probably your Internet connection or home network. If not, then most likely your issue is GTA related.

For starters, you should try to be connected via LAN cable vs Wireless. That should improve your chances of getting NAT Type 2 vs NAT Type 3.

What console do you have? And what exactly is the issue you are having when you can't get online to play games? For example, when you run a network test, what do you get? Also, if you play Call of Duty, what does it tell you when you try to play an online multiplayer game? If you have a PS3/PS4, you will need Playstation Plus membership to play some of those types of online games.

i have a ps4, with port forwarding the network test is nat type 2, with dmz its mostly failed, sometimes nat type 2. ive rebooted modem and router, but yeah still no luck getting online to any multiplayer games i have. for example, battlefield says i cant log in to ea servers, the division says its not available, yet im signed into psn, ps+ membership is valid.

Try this as a test: Unplug your router from your modem. Power off your modem, wait for about 10 seconds, then power it back on. Directly connect your PS4 to your modem via LAN cable, then, on the PS4, set your network settings to use LAN Cable / Wired and use the "Easy" configuration (so that it sets up your IP address settings automatically). After it acquires the settings, test your network connectivity. You should get NAT Type 1. After you have confirmed that, try to see if you can get online to play games. If you can, then it's most likely some other security setting in router. If you still can't get online, then there may be something up with either your PSN account, the PS4 itself, or the modem. It may be a lot, but it will give both of us a better idea of what's going on.

Unfortunately, if you don't have any access to your router to make changes, the best way to get a NAT type 2 is to be directly connected to the router (that is, PS4 must be connected to the router with a network cable). I understand that using WiFi may be the only choice for some people, and there are ways to improve your gaming experience with WiFi, but you must have access to the router to make setting changes to allow your WiFi experience to be better.

For starters, make sure you are connected via Ethernet (wired) connection. 99% of the time, that will help you go from NAT Type 3 to NAT Type 2.
