How to fix the R4DS loading screen.

@nintendude8 if u had read, the wood r4 firmware is for the original r4, not r4sdhc or anything. no microchip beneath it does not mean it is original sorry about the confusion

Awesome, this sorted me out. Evidently, I had the fake R4 (So THAT'S why it cost $1.99 shipped from China) and using the firmware from r4ds-ds fixed it. It's 1.18, I hope that's good enough to run a lot of games. I'm not sure how often these fake R4's firmware are updated, the real one seems to be updated regularly.

i had the one on the right and v1.18 or the fake kernels werent working so i downloaded v1.16 and now its working fine , thank you alot , spent 2 hours trying to figure this out :)

@s52608 doesnt matter, all you need to do is to look for sdhc r4 kernel and place it on ur sdcard

Hi there! I've a R4 identical to the one you show at 0:29 and a new ScanDisk 2gb microSD. I've tried a lot of different firmwares (Wood_R4_v1.62, R4_v1.18...) and this is what happens to me: sometimes some working roms are recognised, sometimes not. I begin to play and everything is ok. I save the game and everything is ok. But when I reset to verify the saved data, the games doesn't recognise any data, so I can't load any game. This happens most of the time with all the firmwares. The .sav/nds.sav files are created and recognised, but they don't seem to work. I've tried everything without succes except try another microSD. I suposse something's wrong with the microSD, what do you think? Those problems aren't normal...

Also only put maximum of 20 in each folder, hope this helps! It makes it faster too.

@pufferball1 it either means the microsd card is not inserted properly or its defunctant and u have to get a new one bud

for those of u who say u have a original R4 and even though u downloaded the firmware its still stuck, then just try other firmwares and hope they work for u

what u have is a microsd to sd card adapter. it cant fit in the ds game slot.

I am using a R4 SDHC (not the R4i, and prolly a 'fake' version of the R4) and I am still stuck in the loading screen, I tried various firmwares or kernels or whatever they are xD It seems I cant fix it anymore x.x I formatted everything when my SD card was a mess.. including the necessary files x.x Any idea how I can get my R4 SDHC running fine again?

Hey, I have a fake R4 SDHC. I wanna update cuz new NDS roms won't load on it anymore. Problem is, it only runs the old 1.18 firmware, and NOTHING else... Other firmwares make it loop on a 'loading' screen or a black screen. Wood was the only firmware that actually booted. Problem is that it won't run any games, they all end up in a white or black screen. Help?

My R4 worked fine until I wiped the MicroSD for use on my phone for a while. Bought a new card recently to start using my DS again but the newer kernels don't work on either card. I'm not sure if it's 'official' or not, but it worked 100% before I got the newer software.

Im having trouble with my R4. It was working perfectly fine for about 2 years and then it got stuck on the loading screen, I tried to connect the SD card to the computer but nothing shows up on the drive. So im guessing its the SD card i need to replace but im not sure

wad do u mean? do u mean when the ds boots up, it takes u to the ds menu screen? sometimes i have this problem (not often) u must take the r4 out and put it back again. if it still dosent work it means ur r4 is faulty

OMg why can't I fix it... it was working before but I didn't managed to use for a few months because of school activities but when I tried to use it again it won't work anymore... I tried reformat the card and even change the kernel but nothing works. Its not fake either... what should I do. Does this mean I have to change my R4? I mean its so hard to find one here in our country :(... and I don't want to buy in the internet because I don't want to buy a fake or something like that. :( or there's still hope with my r4 its just been a year and half perhaps since i have it. :( ... I have been using an SDHC R4 for over a month and it's been working just fine. Not bricks or anything. But for some reason this other one is stuck on the loading screen...even though they are BOTH SDHC. =/ Oh well, I'll try what you advised. Thanks.

common problem i found out the other day maybe obvious, if you have a r4ds cartridge and try to use sdhc memory card (high capacity) it will stick at loading screen you need to use sd card 1 or 2gb.if you want a larger amount of memory you need to buy a r4 sdhc cartridge to take a sdhc memory card hope this helps.

I have the real thing, I've got the real firmware, and it still locks up on the loading screen. I got the 'wood' R4 kernel to work, but no ROMs function while using that, which kinda defeats the purpose...

@yeomond I've literally tried everything the internet has to offer for R4 help. I think at this point I'm going to try getting rid of this things and just buy something newer that's still supported by it's manufacturer.

@Lorre852 Ok, I see the problem. Your old files have been corrupted or you have outdated firmware. Try going on r4dsl.net. Once you get there, on the top right corner should be a language section. Choose English, then click on Download next to the R4 company logo. Choose the kernel your card accept. Hope this helped.

Yes, it did that for me too. PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEEEEEEEE help me. There's a folder labeled 2009/10/.30 on the R4, and when I open it, it says it doesn't exist, and I can't delete it. I'm also out of disk space, so I can't put anything on it.

Hey man, I followed what you did, checking my R4 if its fake (btw, its DSlite), download the firmware/Kernel, put in the files, and yes, my R4 is original. But after doing all those, I safely remove the SD card (and its not fake also), inserted it on my R4, then on my DS, its just stuck with "Loading..." at the end. I need help man. I did other steps like formatting the R4. can you help me?

Okay, my R4 has been working splendidly before, I've played it on multiple occasions. I've stopped only a bit, and FINALLY when I feel the urge to play some Pokemon, my R4 is stuck on "Loading...". I tried switching my 2GB microSD chip to my other siblings empty cartridge, but it had no avail. I'm absolutely positive it isn't fake, so what can I do to save my R4? Today I seemed to have technological karma -.- My laptop just got messed up this morning too! (startup loop)
