How to fix trunk on Audi A4 if it wont open with button or key fob

In case if you dont hear actuator engaging then problem could be lack of connection, in this case check wire harness.
Also check if your trunk lock is NOT in valet mode.
Sometimes Actuator is fine but needs to be aligned.
In my case it was faulty actuator.

Same thing happened to me -- but the fix was actually turning off the VALET MODE button in my glove box!

noodleuberalles if you are lucky enough to own a convertible, raise your top just enough to get your hand in to pop the child safety trunk lever. That's what I had to do. Now I'm in but not sure how to remove the cover panel that was already removed in the video above. I'm stuck at the hand recess on the right side. Not sure how it slides to remove panel. ??

Even with the lock in the vertical position, the buttons and the handle will not make it open. The only thing that does get it to open is by pulling the emergency lever.

@@mariotoci4394 I have discovered that you can rotate the key counterclockwise in the trunks keyhole and it will open that way.

@@oriondrake6919 i tried everything my friend. Nothing. It doesnt even make a sound. I cant hear the actuator working . It just goes from one side to the other. I opened the cabrio half way to reach it from there, but still no emergency lever or button. I was thinking to find the wires and give it electricity.

I'm having same issue now, it's releasing everywhere else, except near the release handle. Did you ever figure that part out? I have to replace my actuator but I can't get to it without, removing the trunk liner trim and the trim is stuck around the emergency release. I cannot find a video demonstrating removing trunk trim for a 2007 A4 quattro convertible. Help, Please let me know, if you or any has a solution...thx

My '03 A4 Avant (Wagon) makes the same noise. Here's the odd thing; in a fail, if I then start the car and try (after 30 seconds) it will release. I've had the actuator apart on the bench, inspected and cleaned adding fresh silicone grease (it did work for a while) but problem returned. Repaired 7 of 12 broken wires found in driver door harness (which is typical) and thought perhaps the overhead hatch harness could have the same issue. Thinking partially frayed wires (too much resistance) were interrupting current flow. Not it. The only option left is the actuator is worn out (and expensive). If I knew the required current for release I could measure but alas, those are specs difficult to find. Any ideas would be appreciated.

@@jamiecalderone went to workshop and they said need to change the trunk opener latch, might be electricial problem somewhere. But I just left like that and one day it went itself. Preety surprised but happy. Good luck mate

Adam Tez part number for the actuator is 4B9-962-115-C and price is about $145 but take a look at the problem first. It could be that a connector rod has come loose from the actuator. You may be able to reconnect it without buying an actuator. I haven't been inside mine yet to tell what's going on.

there is emergency opener from inside, you pull down back seats and get into trunk to pull the emergency wire or switch or whatever is there for you

No keyhole in my 2012 A4 B8 premium and #*&% rear seats don't fold down on this trim. There is some transient noise of something moving at the press of the button but trunk doesn't open. Valet mode is not on. What are my options? Thanks much!

@@snagx that doesn't make sense, either previous owner removed or changed something. You should be able either to use the key or fold back the seats to access trunk. It is required by law i think. You need to change the trunk motor. Its around 40euros

@@edvinas8621 Yeah! I hate Audi for that. Seat not folding, no keyhole to open boot; cutting corners! Had to remove the back seat bench and there was an emergency pull release buried underneath. Learned from someone on audi forums that it's in the manual.
