Still doesn't work for me, been trying for 2 weeks now. I just bough a new macbook, downloaded minecraft, followed the tutorial and I still can not for the life of me get on a 1.16 server of MC. it is so freaking hard to figure this out

I'm trying to change back to version 1.18.2 because the server I want to join hasn't been updated to 1.19 yet. I'm having this exact problem, but I only got as far as finding the Java Oracle website before discovering that there's no Java 18 tab there, only 19 and 17. Any idea how to work around that? I feel like my laptop is conspiring against me 😅

@@xlightning2222 nope lol I was able to click around and find the 1.18 files, but they'd been archived. I installed it anyway, the installation went smoothy, but it didn't fix the problem. When I try to launch anything earlier than 1.19, it still gives me the same error message "Unable to locate Java runtime"

@@mintyexe. I was able to get it to work!! It was an insanely simple thing that I'd overlooked, and that wasn't mentioned in ANY troubleshooting tutorial videos. Give this a try, it might be what your issue is: from the launcher, go to settings (bottom left of the screen). From there, find the very last item in the list of settings; it should say "Use Arm64 Java Runtime for Minecraft: Java Edition". Make sure it's DESELECTED. It started working immediately for me once I changed it, I couldn't believe it was that simple.

Would this also work for the "Unable to load Java Runtime Environment" error? I have a MacBook Pro 2020 M1 macOS Monterey 12.2.1and even though I have Java installed (Java 8 Update 381), when I try to open program that utilizes Java, I get this error. i think you have to go in the minecraft launcher settings and uncheck the setting that says "Use Arm64 Java Runtime for Minecraft Launcher" and it should work
