I'll start really small and I always test the flow out on a paper towel and if I think it's ok and then on the cookie it's no working well, I'll cut it the tiniest bit bigger. Thank you!! I usually give myself 5-6 days to complete a set of 2-3 dozen. So one night is baking, the second night is making icing and doing the base layers. The next night I'll do details, and then if I need another night to finish details I'll do it on the 4th night (sometimes with drying time you can't do it all in one night so you made need a few depending how many details ) and then the 5th night I would take pictures and packge! Once fully dry you can keep then in an airtight container for 2 weeks or you ca freeze them to keep them even more fresh for when you need them!

Have you ever had a cookie that dried get a drip of water on it? It’s so frustrating! I have a tiny kitchen, so sometimes I have to set a tray of cookies on the counter next to the sink and a drip of water might get on a cookie when I turn on the faucet. It’s discolors the icing and it doesn’t go back to perfect after it’s dried! I would love a tip to fix that if anybody has had that issue!

That's a tough one! It happens to me sometimes too when people are washing things in the kitchen and go to dry their hands and it splashes on them. I assure you, you're probably the only one that notices the specs, but now I keep my cookies in the dehydrator during the day while it's off. That way it takes less space on my counter and there protected from these kinds of things!

I am thinking about adding flavors to the icing, instead of the old standard vanilla or almond. Also, I recently got different flavored sugars: pineapple, chocolate, lemon and peppermint. I found them on Amazon, they're for drinks (rim the glass). Anyway I thought they were pretty and the flavors are bold. Do y'all think it's a bad idea? lol Thanks for the tips! I had trouble with my icing color separating. What would cause this?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo Жыл бұрын
Usually after you leave it on the counter for a day or too, it separates (the more liquid your icing is the faster it separates). All you need to do is massage it back together, it's totally normal! I keep my bags in the fridge now and it slows the separation down

Do you have a certain amount of time to use the icing in your bag before it gets hard?
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 2 жыл бұрын
As long as the icing is in the bag it's ok, it's when it's exposed to air (like sitting in a bowl ) where it can start to harden. I usually cover the tips with a damp paper towel, to prevent the bags from leaking and keep the tips from crusting!

help! I have a simple icing recipe that isnt royal icing, it's powdered sugar, water, extract and coloring and I mix until I get the right consistancy for lining and flooding, but most times, it'll dry very weird and I don't know whats going on with that. I'll pipe the icing, and it'll look beautifully smooth. Give or take a few hours laying out to dry, and there are huge craters! big indents along the whole cookie in multiple spots, like it's warped. I used to use this recipe and liked it, I could decorate cookies the day before, let them first dry out in the open, then finnish drying in the oven with the door open and in the morning everything was dry and ready to pack for orders. Now as of lately, I wake up ready to pack the cookies that should be dry and they aren't. what should I do to fix the icing?

@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo 9 ай бұрын
It could be a few things, one is that your icing is overmixed, another thing is that thete could have been a bit of grease in your bowl or beaters (you can wipe them down with vinegar to clean them well), or it could be that they didn't have sufficient time to dry or were covered before fully dry.

I have a stupid question. I LOVE decorating cookies, but I find that royal icing on Vanilla Sugar cookies is way too sweet for me. It makes me dive headfirst for the darkest black roast of coffee I can find. I've tried toning down the sweetness of the cookie dough a little, which helps - but is there any way to make royal icing less sweet? Or am I asking for the sky not to be blue? LOL
@LittleCookieCo
@LittleCookieCo Жыл бұрын
Not stupid at all! I know some people use juice of a fresh lemon to cut the sweetness a bit. Not sure if that would help enough for you but worth a try! Also, is your cookie recipe with icing sugar? I find the ones with powdered sugar are quite sweet. The ones that I make aren't too sweet, so I find it balances put the sweet icing. And when you make the cookies a bit thicker I find the cookie to icing ration helps. Also, sometimes I paint my cookies with the icing instead of flooding a full layer, and that helps a bit so you don't have so much icing! Hopefully one of those helps 🥰

@@LittleCookieCo Thank you!!! My cookie recipe is granulated sugar. I tried the lemon and wasn't a big fan. My last royal icing I made with peppermint extract for Christmas and it was much better.
