Your review of this the RG35XX is the sole reason I bought it (using the link in your review!) after looking around for several months trying to decide on which retro device to buy. Also through your review, I went to install GarlicOS... everything went smooth, seemed to be ok, went to boot up and it's stuck on the GarlicOS boot logo. Did the battery trick, but no dice - just loads right back up to the Garlic OS logo and gets stuck. Any ideas, my friend? Oh wow. Thank you! That’s so encouraging to hear! But I’m sorry you’re having a problem with GarlicOS. That stinks. So, here’s one thing that I’d try. For reasons I don’t understand, GarlicOS doesn’t seem to like used sd cards. I first tried installing it on one I had used for my Switch. I wiped it clean, reformatted it, and did a fresh install multiple times, but it would never finish booting up. However, I spent $10 and got a new card, and GarlicOS has been great ever since. The original card still works on my Switch and other devices. I have no idea why. All that to say, if you’re using the card that came with it or a different used card, you might want to try buying a new one. Currently playing castlevania bloodlines as we speak!! Tried to get Simpsons Arcade running on it (NeoGeo) but no luck - not sure if I'm getting an improper rom file or not. I'm mostly used to emulation from the more well known 32 bit systems on down, but if you have any tips for THAT since I'm utterly clueless... I'll take it! Thanks again for the reply. Guys if you can get in switch back to the original os then play it till it runs dead it acts very similar to disconnecting it just run it flat then try turn it on a few times before charging

To revive mine, I had to get a new 64GB SD card and put the new OS in it (Dual OS with GarlicOS). Then put this new SD card in TF1, plug the power cord, press Reset (not hold), then hold the Power button until it turned on. Worked fine. Then I turned it off and left it plugged to charge the battery. Been fine since then.

Hey i just bought my new RG35XX after playing on it accidentally I changed from the stock OS to the Garlic OS, after that the garlic OS logo appears then the Anbernic one after that I am presented with the original menu but the buttons don’t respond, I tried resetting and removing the battery as you did but it did nothing, can anyone please help!!!

This only works on the first generation 35XX and GarlicOS 1. If that’s what you’re using then you may have a corrupted SD card.

I installed Garlic OS and now it gets stuck on a blank screen after the boot logo. it will not turn off either it just stays on blank (but backlit) screen until the battery dies. Tried this fix and it did nothing, Any help would be amazing.

Hey. I have not seen that specific issue. Was the card you're using wiped clean and reformatted before you installed GarlicOS? Also, when it gets stuck on the blank screen, have you tried holding down the power button for like 15 seconds? Or pressing the reset button?

Could anyone confirm if such issue also occurs with RG35XX H? Because mine has just stuck on boot logo, wheter in Stock OS or in Batocera Lite. It just happened after I let the battery deplet completely while it was on standby, using Stock OS. I have to find the correct screwdriver to disassemble it, since it's not default

@@BoKnowsGamingFirst of all, thank you A LOT for this video. It helped me recover my RG35XX H. What I did was let it turned on with no power cable, waited like 10 hours straight. Then, after plugging the power cable and pressing power button... it got stuck again! BUT THEN when I pressed reset, it booted, the brightness increased (since it's on 4 by default) and the menu appeared, whooa! I want to try Batocera now because it has a better look and feel and most important: shows battery percentage on top right corner. But since I just bought this, I wanna stick the stock OS a bit, tinker here and there etc. Again thanks a lot Bo, cheers! PS: I tried lots of combinations before that, even reflashed stock os (that's why brightness was defaulted back to 4) from an image I created myself as soon as I unboxed. Imaged both cards (64 and 128 GB) even before turning it on for the first time

Not sure what you're trying to run, but GarlicOS 1.xx doesn't work on the RG35XX+. Only the original RG35XX.

I can’t verify this, but I have seen some people say that the Pokémon ROMs that come preloaded sometimes have a glitch in saving that prevent you from finishing the game. They recommend replacing those before you start playing. But again, that’s just something I’ve seen other people say. I can’t verify personally.

I don’t think baldness is the solution. 😉 But seriously, that sounds very frustrating. I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t own a 353V. However, I do know that the OS is on a TF card. I think it’s 16gb. There is no internal memory, so all the data about battery operation, which would include charging and discharging, is located on that TF card. If you’re having a problem with your battery but it seems fine, then the problem might be that card. Maybe it’s partially corrupted. Maybe it’s damaged. Idk. But I would reinstall the OS on a brand new card and see if that fixes your battery issue.

It sounds like you have some dead pixels. The only way to fix that is to replace the screen.

Ok. If none of that worked then I would reinstall on a new card. That's a pain, but it's better to just fix it. If your current card will mount to a computer, I would try to pull the ROMs off of it. You can get the stock firmware from here, but it's weird because they set it up through a google drive.plus.rg35xx.com/en/firmwares-2/anbernic-stock/ Hope that helps.

You can try letting the battery run out, but that didn't work for me. One other thing that happened to me that was similar to your situation, is I had installed GarlicOS to an old card I had used on my Switch, and for some reason even after reformatting it, it wouldn't boot for me. I ended up having to buy a brand new, unused, card and it hasn't given me any trouble. I've been playing games for a couple of months now with no issues. Thankfully, they're very inexpensive. I’m sorry. That sucks. I always recommend trying the battery trick first, but if that doesn’t work most people have great success with installing on a brand new sd card. Hello, I bought my rg35xx a few months ago and it worked great right out the box. I bought another one as a gift for someone else, the purple one, but it's having issues. Right out the box I tried turning it on, it flashed Anbernic twice, then had a black screen (it was unresponsive however the green power light was staying on, it also wouldn't turn off). I let the device sit until the green light turned off, tried turning it on after charging it for an hour but now get a Battery Error logo. I've since searched online, have tried using the reset button, removing the card and reinstalling it, holding power, holding reset, and after watching your video i've also taken it apart, disconnected the battery for over ten seconds and it turns on but still only shows the battery error then turns itself off. I have not installed Garlic OS, do you have any suggestions? Last thing i can think to do is to reinstall the native firmware or try flashing Garlic onto this card and hope it works, but I fear this is a battery issue. Please help!

I should also add that the initial rg35xx that i bought (the one that works) came from the official anbernic website. The website wasn't functioning anymore, so i purchased the (broken) purple one off of eBay. :(

Great question, @timdebekker3827. I had the battery error logo for a day and started to freak out about it. The only thing that was wrong was me trying to charge it with other usb-c cables I already owned. But it HAS to be charged by the cable that came with it. I suspect it has something to do with fast charge compatibility, but I'm not 100% sure. So first, make sure you're using the provided cable, or perhaps the one that came with your initial unit. That said, It actually sounds more likely that you have a faulty sd card. Without a working sd card, the RG35XX will not charge and none of its buttons will work. That's because the boot bios and the OS are all on the card. The RG35XX has no internal storage. If you want to try a new card, this is what I use: amzn.to/3Y9J78I You can put the OS on the first one, your games on the second one, and then have an extra to spare just in case. Hope this is helpful and gets you back up and running, friend!

As far as I know, this isn’t an issue with the Plus. Also, the Plus has a battery compartment with a removable back, so changing/disconnecting the battery isn’t this complicated. 👍🙂

Could be a few things. The battery could be faulty and need replacing. Or it may have degraded over time and it's only capable of an 89% charge. Or it could just be a glitch in the OS. I'm not really sure. I know they had battery issues in a lot of units the first few months the original RG35XX was out, but I think they got those sorted out after a while. You may be able to use the smartphone charging brick with the cable that came with your RG35XX. But I have not had any success using my phone, tablet, laptop, or even gaming controller charging cables with the RG35XX. Basically, if the cable supports fast charging, the RG35XX won’t recognize it. So, I don’t think the brick you have will damage it because the charging governor built into the firmware won’t allow fast charging. But if you have an older charger laying around, like a 5W one, then you could use that just to be safe.

If you want to reset it where it doesn’t start from your save state but starts from the title screen, select the game from your game list and hit the Start button instead of A. I don’t know if that will fix your control issue though. Is that happening to all your games or just one?

That stinks. Sometimes this doesn't fix the issue. Often this is due to people using the generic sd card that came with the device. Those cards often fail. I would try using a name brand card.

If it’s still stuck you will probably have to reinstall GarlicOS on a new card or newly reformatted card. Make sure you back up your ROMs if you can before you do this.

Interesting. If I were you, I would try to completely erase and reformat the card. The make sure it’s blank and then use balena etcher to install garlicOS onto the fresh card. If that doesn’t work, you may need a new card.

It sounds like you got a faulty sd card. They ship with super cheap, generic cards as you may have noticed. I’d see if the files still show up on your computer, and make a copy of any ROMs you want to keep. Get a new, name brand card, then install garlicOS and put the ROMs you saved into the appropriate folder. OR if you can return it for free, you could just exchange it for a new one.

If it’s still stuck after unplugging the battery, then you most likely have a damaged sd card. I would highly suggest getting a name brand card and reinstalling everything.

You can try taking the back plate off and disconnecting the battery for 15 seconds. But most likely you have a corrupted sd card. So, just prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for that.

Every time I’ve seen this happen it’s due to a faulty sd card. If you’re using the original card or an older used one, I would get a brand new one and try flashing garlic to that. I use these Lexar cards, and they work great! amzn.to/41BWTD2

While I charged the device, the yellow light was on but it was only on for 30 secs and the green battery charging bar on the screen was not moving as well. Will you know this kind of issue? Another issue I can think of could be the voltage of the charging device that I used may not be compatible with the RG35xx, coz I looked at the rear of the RG35xx and it mentioned that the voltage needs 5v 1.5A; on the other hand I used the fast charger which up to 5V 3A. I am not sure if this is the issue which causing the device won’t charge up.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for everyone. When this doesn’t work it usually means your card is corrupted or faulty. If you used an old card or the generic card that came with the device, you should try using a new card from a reputable brand. I use Lexar. I also have a garlicOS installation tutorial on my channel if you need it.

Hey man! Havent used rg35xx for a couple of months (nor charge it) and tried to power it today, and its stuck on boot screen (stock system), and it wont charge. Assuming its because of crappy chinese card, i bought a premium one and installed garlic os with all the roms as the only system. When i inserted it in primary slot, absolutely nothing happened, it didnt show me garlic boot logo and it wont charge. The only thing left to try is disconnecting battery as shown in this video. Do you have any other ideas why it wont even charge with newly installed garlic?

You have to use a specific kind of usb c cable for it to charge. Obviously, the one it came with should work. But you cannot use the fast chargers that most of us have with our phones now. So I would try charging it with the provided cable or another cable that you know is slow charge cable.

Are you using the usb c cable that came with it to charge it? You have to use that specific cable. I’m not entirely sure why, but none of my other usb c cables work. Hmm... Now THAT I haven't come across. Not sure what that means. I think the first thing I'd do is let that battery fully charge. Then follow the instructions in this video to disconnect the battery for 15 seconds to let it fully power down. If you still have the problem after that, I would consider copying your ROMS and Saves to you computer, erasing the SD card, and installing a fresh version of GarlicOS. Hope that helps!

I can’t say for sure, but it sounds like some of your ROMs are just corrupted or the wrong file type. I would try a different ROM of a game that isn’t working and see if it responds differently.

It has to be charged with the charging cable it came with. If you’re using something else, stop and switch to the Anbernic one that was in the box. It should begin charging after a few seconds.

@@arwindavisflores4293 It doesn't have a fast charge function, so most usb c cables won't work. You have to use the cable that came with the device. If you're using that cable, and it still won't charge, then you either have a faulty battery or a faulty sd card. The sd card has to be inserted and working for charge to work. If the provided cable doesn't charge the device, and you're within the return/replacement window, then I'd request an exchange for a new device because it's not charging.

You just got an original RG35XX? Or the Plus model. The Plus version does not run GarlicOS 1.x.x. It only runs V.2 which is still in Alpha build. That may be your problem.

The plus and minus just means you overclocked and then underclocked the device. I believe the shortcut for that is Menu(hold) + Select(tap). You can cycle through it. Underclocking for 8/16 bit games can lengthen your battery life. Overclocking can give you better performance on PS1 for example. Glad it’s working now.

@@medicmason5819 Gotcha. I just picked up a 353V and have ArkOS running on it. But I haven't heard of an issue with that. Did you accidentally turn the device off during an update maybe? I know it warned me not to when I was doing the OTA update. If it were me, I would try reinstalling it from a wiped card. Then if it's still stuck I'd take it apart and disconnect the battery.
