he twists to face where he took off from after he flips though because thats the natural rotation your body takes after completing a sideflip. Its a sign of a high, fast sideflip

Really helpful! In my teenage years i used to freerun alot. A few years ago however, i quit. Since then i have been struggling a bit with my weight, i'm not overweight but i did get heavier! I really wajja start off from the start so this was very helpful! If anyone has any tips for me in general, welcome to give them :D

Thanks for this tutorial! I finally landed my backflip. It was really hard, some of the points in this tutorial didn't really make sense (like going over your sides) but I got it in the end!

I've been trying to learn how to do a side flip but I'm always scared I'll land on my head and suffer a concussion or something. I know there's a very small chance of that even happening but every time I go to do one, there's just a lingering voice at the back of my head telling me I can't do it. This basically goes for most parkour related moves. But after watching this, I'll try it out once again. Great video guys! Also there were so many parts in that video where it felt you were going to suddenly crack up but the video just cuts to the next scene right before that happens. It's hilarious

@radMisc3 жыл бұрын
I have a few disagreements with this. First: The tip about foot placement & kick obviously only works for step up sideflips or webster sideflips. Flat ground gather step take offs usually work best with 45 degree turned feet and no kick with the rear leg. Second: learning by spotting an object the entire rotation will make you flip right over your head rather than the desired 'barrel roll' type rotation. Imo the best way is to think of the flip as a "front flip with your body facing sideways", i.e. look with your head the way you would in a front flip (ground, knees, ground), kind of like a shoulder roll. Lastly, pertaining to the second point; same goes with the chest. Sure, you don't want to intentionally turn your chest, but remember that your chest is hunched over during the flip, so turning it is kind of the same thing as rotating sideways, if that makes sense.
@EEeE3771 Жыл бұрын
He's trying to tell us not to do "barrel" sideflips and that's the whole point of the video. I don't know why he thinks strict side-axis sideflips are the right way to do it, but I think it's because you can get a much higher set this way compared to barrel sideflips.
@radMisc Жыл бұрын
@@EEeE3771 Well, yes and no. The thing is; he does a "barrel" type sideflip himself. I doubt that he himself learned the way he explains it, when he first started. Even with a tall chest during the set, he still folds it in during the rotation, and looks at his knees. If you take a look at like 90% of freerunners, no one does it by looking straight out of the flip, everyone folds their head in. I harp about this because i was given the tip to spot the wall when i started and as a result my sideflip was ugly and untucked af and I had to unlearn that which took quite some work.
@radMisc Жыл бұрын
@@EEeE3771 and also, you can still do the "barrel" version but on a strict axis; in fact i think it usually ends up cleaner. Again, have you ever seen anyone use the "wheel" style when doing a double sideflip (which requires you to stay on the same axis for both rotations)? I have, and it always ends up turning the second rotation into a backwards mess, see Joey Adrian or Nick Provost. Everyone who can double well does the barrel style.
@EEeE3771 Жыл бұрын
We might not be using barrel to describe the same thing. I'm thinking of barrel as in your back is directly facing the ground when you're upside down.
@EEeE3771 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I take it back. His back is facing the ground, so he is barreling. So he does contradict himself.
