1992 NA Mazda Miata - stalling at idle. This is my free fix for rough idling and stalling when the car warms up.

This is NOT the throttle idle control. What you have worked on is the 'throttle dash pot'. This item is not fitted to all cars around the world. It is a damper that slows the closing of the throttle which can help prevent engine stalling. Bad idling is usually the idle control valve not working and that can be found in other videos or forums.

Do you happen to know what those hoses are that are at the side of the intake? It looks like there is coolant In then on my brothers Miata and I’m not sure that’s normal

Thanks for this tutorial. One thing to note, be very careful when removing the rubber boot around the pot. Some of these are 30 years old, and mine ripped in half. :/

Thanks just bought a 1990 Miata low miles the rpm's drop when you push the clutch in, your video helped!

Doing this and it working would be a whole lot cheaper than trying to replace the IAC, it's worth a try.

I am not knocking you for names of parts being wrong. Great job with video an voice. Great job trying to fix it your self. My daughter in a coastal region just found 5 mechanics that no one should take there car to. They told her everything from bad throttle body, worn out engine, bad clutch, imbalance drive shaft, an. One even said “the Miata surges because you right front wheel an your left rear wheel are out of balance,,”, the last but not lest was what another mechanic said,” Your 94 Mazda Miata MX 5 is programmed to get air out of your brake system that way. You have air in your brake system. . I showed here how to fix it. One mechanic had it in the right area. He was going to change the throttle body. But if he did not change everything connects to it, it would be just partially fixed.

Would've really helped if you went back and refilmed taking the thing off, most miata videos are on 1.8 engines and I'm very confused

I wonder if this is what I need to do. Is this diaphragm what keeps the throttle from dropping too fast? Thanks..

Mine is doing the same thing, did you ever fix it?

Most likely your fuel filter. Does it get worse the more gas you give it?

Im going to check mine! also, I would replace your RAD hoses since you are going restore route! Just a tip to others if this doesnt fix your idle, try replacing your fuel filter. i was getting a 18 afr idle jumping up and down, its a $10ish fix, even if it doesnt fix your issue it will help
