Hey Chris, I don't know if you'll see this but if you do, I want you to know that what you do is what has pretty much started my career, kinda. I'm now in college doing motor vehicle maintenance and repair, sort of what you do. If it wasn't for you, this wouldn't have happened. I just wanna thank you for starting my college life. Thanks to you, I know more about cars than ever before. I love watching you, and it will become more important as my life here in the UK starts and changes. I love you so much, and I just want you to know this. Your big fan, Kian Smith.

Hey man I just wanna say that this video helped me out so much. My dad was a mechanic and he passed away almost a year ago and I started having issues with my car and started to freak out because I can’t call him anymore to help out. Josh, I lost my dad in 2017. He was a mechanic, too and I still freak out every time I have car trouble lol. Like you, I'm learning how to identify and even solve some of my car problems myself, which led me to Chris's videos. Thank you for sharing this! Being a woman I sometimes feel like people have made me feel I'm in incapable of fixing things on my own, but it's videos like this that really make my day. I don't have someone in my life to help me with things and I love understanding the mechanics of my car, Sso thank you for sharing this! I've fixed quite a few things on my car over the past year and I'm really grateful for these kinds of videos. I don't like feeling "helpless" or like I can't figure it out.

You totally can figure it out! I'm a woman also, but I've been doing home & car repair (although more home) my whole life. There are so many resources now it's easy to find clear instructions and tips thanks to channels like this and random guys filming in their driveway lol. Fixing stuff seems so difficult & complicated, but honestly most stuff is easy once you get comfortable. I've soldered plumbing, fixed appliances and various car issues, replaced my hvac ductwork, and now I'm learning to tile a shower! Learn as much as you can and enjoy the process!

Thank you! This past week, I've learned so many useful tips and mechanic knowledge, saving me money... Very grateful for KZbin channels like yours and others. My car was not restarting without bogging down and nearly stalling after short errands, if the engine was warm. I would have to leave my car running or let it cool down for 1-2 hours before I could restart it. So far, I used seafoam engine treatment in the crankcase and gas tank, along with installing 4 new spark plugs and the issue went away!! Resting idle went up to about 500 from 200 but could still be better. I'm hoping after cleaning the IACV, throttle body and fuel injectors, resting idle will go up to 700-800 like it use to. 2000 Honda CR-V. Makes me feel good to work on my baby! Had this car for 18 years. My only regret is not learning the basics any sooner...

I’m finally going to go ahead and review/ re-clean my IAC again. Last time I cleaned it, it actually gave me a high idle. Guessing I pushed some carbon deposits somewhere to get it stuck and idle high, it was quite dirty. Thanks for the much needed motivation, Chris! Edit* - 1996 4Runner with 3.4l 5VZ-FE engine incase anyone is curious :)

Accelerator So I didn’t manage to get that high idle to reduce. I’m thinking I might have actually shorted the sensor, up until watching this video did I find out that you shouldn’t spray TB cleaner in there without having the sensor face up to prevent it from shorting. My idle sits at about 1,400 RPM in park and neutral. Goes back to 800 in drive or reverse so I’m sure it’s the IAC. Oh well haha I’ll probably try to run a test on it soon.

Thanks so much for another great video! Here's my experience! I have a 99 Cherokee Limited (XJ 4.0L) that was starting to show strange issues with rough idle, stalling, and RPMs fluctuating. It happened fairly randomly. I was worried there was a problem with the fuel system, but it was suggested I try to clean the throttle body and/or replace the IAC. Then I found this video and you identified the *exact* issue I was having with fluctuating RPMs, as well as common ways to trigger it. In my case, rough running or stalls would randomly happen during hard turns, the transmission shifting gears, or me shifting from P/R to D. I would also experience periods of very rough idle with low/fluctuating RPMs when in park, or stopped at lights. And on top of all that, I'd sometimes have trouble starting the car; I'd have to tap on the gas while cranking to get it to turn over. Your video finally encouraged me to stop being lazy and clean the IAC valve. I also went one step further and cleaned the throttle body; the XJ's IAC is a little awkward to remove by itself, and I had never cleaned the throttle body so it was long overdue. I just finished up and went for a ride around town - no issues with stalling or fluctuating RPMs whatsoever! Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

First of all thank you so much for this wonderful demonstration of cleaning the throttle body and Idle Air Control valve. I wish we all had mechanics like you when we give our vehicles for servicing. I have faced this issue with my 2009 Nissan Sunny right after I received it form the workshop. I am not blaming the mechanic, but they must do a proper test run before they hand over the vehicle back to the customer. They did a decent job servicing my car but yet I still have this issue. With all the symptoms you have explained, I believe, I have interpreted the issue correctly with my car as well. Now I do not need to explain a lot to the mechanic but to tell him to clean the throttle body and IAC valve directly.

So happy I found this video! I teach driving and the 2017 Versa runs like crap. I've told the owner so many times that the car idles too high, but he is misogynistic and doesnt believe me. Well, now I will fix it myself. Thank you!

Hey Chris, the electronic throttle body plates can get carboned up as well and cause a low idle, not just a vacuum leak. Happens all the time on Toyota's especially after disconnecting the battery. Great video though!

Even GM vehicles that have one does this a lot and out of the blue. When I usually do a tune-up, I do a throttle body clean and relearn the idle.

Thank you Chrisfix, my 03 Taurus SE was idling at 1200-2000 rpm at idle, and this fixed the problem. I’ve been watching your channel for years and knew that one day I’d have my own car and you’ve been a great help with some minute-ish things, I appreciate all that you do!!! If only I could find a fix for the high shift. But it’s only a 4 speed from what I’ve found, so I might replace the trans.

You are a lifesaver! I can't even begin to thank you enough! I recently picked up an '02 Mustang as a project car, but it needs some major cleaning and maintenance and quite a few things need to be replaced. Not complaining in the least as my neighbor basically just gifted it to me to work on with my son. Subbed, and I am looking forward to watching more videos on your channel.

We need a drift stang video soon!! Maybe you could but the interior and put a roll cage in it when the virus is over or install one your self!! Would love to watch that!

Thoroughly done 👏 So many youtube machines miss small steps where your left slightly confused. 😕 Great job on the explanation of why cleaning the IAC is important and what that does to your car. 👍

September 23, 2024. This helped correct and smooth the idle in my 1999 Ford Ranger 4.0. Kudos to Chris!!!
