I had this exact issue when changing the hands on a ETA 2893-2 GMT movement- so many watch makers wanted me to pay for a full service but eventually I found a trustworthy local watchmaker who understood the issue. Thanks to your video if it happens again I can reset the yolk myself, thank you!!

You’re very welcome. Thank you so much for this comment. The same apply for car repair, you bring in to have break replacement and the mechanic tell you the car needs a full service. 😆

Do you know if it's possible to have an automatic watch that runs and properly wind itself, but won't hand wind ? There is resistance when turning the crown but don't hear any clicks like the tension is being built up in the spring.

Is your watch a Seiko?
@TylerSnyder3055 ай бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel The watch is a vintage Paul Breguette, and it actually is hand winding but I just didn't know that some automatic watches behave this way. I have a handful of old watches that run but really need service, they were given to me by my dad who got a few cigar boxes full of watches and parts from a retiring watchmaker he used to sweep up for as a kid. Long story short I thought getting one of them rehabbed would be an affordable way to step up from my Timex Quarts watches, but I discovered I could get a Seiko 5 for the money and ended up ordering one.

Hi, what if you can manually wind the crown but the watch itself is not winding and there is no tension as you wind it?

Sounds like a broken mainspring to me

@@TimelessHistoryChannelThanks for the response, btw may i know how much does a mainspring cost? my watch is a tag heuer.
@TimelessHistoryChannel5 ай бұрын
@@glendbest I've not purchased a mainspring for a Tag Heuer for a long time. I would assume it is an ETA mainspring. The price of a mainspring will depends on the supply house. As a private individual I do not think you can order one, but you'll need to ask your local watchmaker to help you order one. Or if you know what caliber is inside your watch, you can always search on eBay for the mainspring. It will most likely be no more than $50-$100.

I just received my 168.017 bought online, and it has the same problem and the dealer said on the website it is serviced! Should I return the watch?
@TimelessHistoryChannel5 ай бұрын
If you feel that the dealer is dishonest or item is not as described then you have the right to return it
