Damnnnn this would make the whole experience on youtube so much better. And the customizable search is an awesome idea because I usually watch motivational shit or songs while working out. Some podcasts while driving. Some educational stuff otherwise and relaxing no brainer entertaining videos while eating and most of the time, I just find myself scrolling and scrolling. I get nothing from new creators on the home page, even on the search it's pretty bad. Your solutions are sooo good.

I think youtube kinda already has a solution for viewers to gauge the quality of a video beforehand, on the autoplay/hover-over feature on the homepage you can kinda chop through it to get a feel for whether you wanna check it out. although i think if the rating/audience score was added in parallel to it it would be quite the combo. I agree with all the other takes on the video! Amazing stuff, your content always delivers and i think you have a great style and amazing structure that makes everything you talk about so easy to understand. Thank you :)

All great suggestions that would probably make this platform better but I also think an adult way to praise high quality is paying. So, for creators getting fewer views with high quality content, a product to sell is the best way to be recognized without selling your soul to views.

The ideas were genius, I loved the idea of removing views from the homepage, that would give a lot of smaller channels a chance when compared to titans that the audience already watch. I would say the community notes could backfire though, There would have to be some sort of checks and balances like Twitter has, or else a lot of viewers would use it to force their opinion. (Coming from somebody who has made Anime and Hip Hop content, I can see how very quickly KZbinrs would have to say the popular opinion or risk the fans flagging it lol). But a rating score would be extremely nice also!

The single best feature they could bring back is "Dont recommend videos based on ______" That way, I dont have to worry about my watch history always reappearing like a bad penny. Or better yet, dont recommend me videos based around an entire tag. Same goes for Netflix and other streaming services. That way, I can enjoy an entire feed of accurate recomendations rather than give up after being frustrated.

Its a shame. I've seen multiple other videos complaining about a lot of what you said Jay. Unfortunately these changes will never happen. Especially search. The fact is people will click on other stuff that they didn't actually search for. Therefore they need to add other crap in the search because it increases watch time on the site. Dislikes are never coming back cause for the same reason. If people can see that a video is disliked, they are less likely to enjoy it themselves, and therefore less likely to keep watching. Love your videos Jay. So informative. Like a condensed version of a Colin & Samir Episode ;D

idea here: show some videos as impressions rather than views so that people click like crazy these would be chosen via a KZbin video battle royal (listed as BR in this comment) how it would be set up: - there would be a 3rd slot under where KZbinrs can choose to show a video to their subscribers or to people visiting the page - this is the BR slot - this slot would be locked until the BR is complete (a 4th slot would also exist as prep for the next battle - one would be current and the other would be next) - this video (or another video in the BR from another channel) would be featured on the homepage in one of the two ad slots of the top 8 or 10 videos - in fact the two ad slots would be eliminated and replaced with one paid and one free BR - one for monetization and the other for a video to get their first 1k impressions how it would work: 1. 30 day grace period during which the 2 slots are normal ad slots begins 2. a word (or phrase) is chosen - this word defines the sort of thing people seem to be searching for on KZbin and the topic of the BR (ex: "How to", "monetization", "childhood", "things to eat in NYC") 3. everyone who wishes for their channel to participate confirms their video selection 4. the 30 day grace period ends 5. every video gets at least 1000 impressions (unless eliminated due to problems with the video or the channel itself) 6. a notice goes out that the actual game is about to start 7. over the course of the next 100 days, another 1% of the original group of videos is no longer shown in the homepage slot, until only the last 1% remain - btw the way the videos get shown or not during this stage is the way the algorithm would normally show or not show them aftermath: final 1% of videos are granted special status: shown in a new tab option at the top of the homepage as a recent win until the next battle royal finishes (and in a second tab as a former winner), marked with a gold star, and are in a "priority search"

@@thejayalto so yes but actually no haha technically I have but in this specific context I had to click on the video (nice job with that lol) and I spent literally 2 hours sitting here with the video open typing furiously and then realizing I made the comment too long and shrinking it down under 2000 characters haha my current project is: looking through all 470 thumbnails in a specific niche to see what the trends are and I've found a bunch of things which are quite upsetting like actual character for character cloned titles (maybe coincidental) and a clear racial preference when it comes to some sub categories of the niche but normally it's just like use white text on screen and show the thing mentioned in the title and you're all good haha anyways the angle I approached this video from was: What do people who don't even get impressions do? and other than grinding, waiting, making a big change on the channel, or making an entirely new channel I don't know What I do know is: it sucks to get under 100 views on a video; but, getting under 100 impressions is the biggest slap in the face and one of the things I think makes people ragequit for some people like me it's because we're clearly not following basic guidelines like the white text - or the title, thumbnail, and description all working together with the first 30 seconds - but if people haven't scheduled anything ahead of time so that they can have a buffer both in terms of workload but also mentally... idk how they're supposed to take those hits if it feels well thought out it's probably because I hid in my room for a decade overthinking and writing stuff out haha - I'll probably come back to this in Late October unless someone shreds this and I get excited and try to adjust it this reply was a bit rushed but I got excited by your reply and the fact that it was a question (seemingly the only reply like that so far in the comment section (at 5hours))
