🟠 HERE IS ANOTHER FIX: First shut off the main water source, then run a garden hose from the neighbors house or completely separate water source. Attach the garden hose to the the clogged water fixture. There are adapters available at home depot if you dont have a perfect fit. Open all connected faucets and/or fixtures, and also remove the GPM flow-restrictiors from these plumbing fixtures which will allow and backwash the collected sediment/clog out the other way through these fixtures. Run hot water through the garden hose if possible, hot water can potentially loosen up sediment and clogs better. Alternating from cold to hot in 5-10 minute intervals can also expand and contract the pipes loosening clogs/sediment up as well.

Is there a technique to flush the line from the street to the home rather than just piping that is internal to the home?

Remove the aerators from the sink faucets, and remove the shower head ... otherwise debris that is fushed from the line is caught by the aerators and shower head and clogs them up. May need a vinegar soak for clogged aerator and a scrub with an old toothbrush before rinsing and reataching to the flushed faucet.

How often should you do this? I’ve never heard anyone say that this is something you need to do in your home. We recently started having a smell to our water and after contacting our city water company they said it had to be our home pipes. We just had a new hot water heater put in two years ago.

Similar situation as yours. We have a wet dog smell to our water, especially on our dishes after they're cleaned with the dishwasher. We use a drain cleaner in the sink, a dishwasher cleaner, and clean our dishwasher trap frequently and still have the smell. We've had our city water company test the water and it was normal. They're saying the same thing. Did you ever resolve the smell? If so, what was the resolution?

This is a great in-depth video. Thank you. I was going to flush my tap lines only until I saw this. Im going to give this a go. I think I’ve answered my own question, but because I don’t think I heard it mentioned in the video..., would you typically remove all of the interior taps’ aerators prior to flushing so we don’t have biofilm or debris trapped in there?

This was done regularly years ago in New Zealand but they decided it used too much water so they don't flush the mains on the street anymore. I flush my own hot water tank and holding tank in the ceiling it is amazing how much silt settles in the bottom and most people never do it don't even think about it as a routine. how many health issiue's would be helped by doing this simple maintenance.🥴 THANKYOU ALL FOR YOUR GREAT ADVICE .👌😇

We do not recommend using harsh chemicals in water piping. They could damage gaskets and cause release of metals to drinking water. Once calcium has formed on a surface, it is best to leave it there. In severe cases, a professional may use chemicals to remove calcium buildup, using extreme caution to prevent damage or contamination.

Apartments are a bit more complex. If the apartment has a combined water and fire service, the service line may be able to be flushed out the fire department connection. Interior plumbing can be cleaned, but it is a complicated procedure. I recommend taking your concerns to your landlord or apartment manager.

Totally not impressed with this video. First of all, no real explanation on when or how often someone would need to do this. Most people are running enough water on a daily basis just in the normal use of water, that flushing your house lines really isn't going to do much and it's just a waste of time and water. Also if you want to easily flush the lines inside just run your bathtub (not the shower) for about 10 - 15 mins max. Can you explain to me how you filled up a 6 gallon bucket in 50 seconds and ended up getting 14 gallons per min. Seems to me if it takes 60 seconds to pump 7 gallons of water, that is 7 gallons per minute flow. Next, I don't care how long you flush your pipes, there will always be more debris coming into your house pipes, hence once again. Just a waste of time. Flushing a hot water heater, again is just a waste of time. It's never been proven that flushing a hot water heater does anything to prolong the life of the hot water heater unless you are really in some type of high mineral area and if you are, it is much better for EVERYTHING to install a water conditioner to remove the majority of those minerals. If you are really concerned about particles in your drinking water you are much better off installing a water filter on the main water line coming into the house. Just make sure you are able to easily shut off the water or even bypass the filter, in case you need to service the filter. Yes of course if you are getting discolored water, by all means run your bathtub (hot and cold) until the water clears, then turn on some outside spigots and then when all looks good flush your toilets and run your sinks but don't flush your pipes on a regular basis, it's just a waste of time.

Regarding the flow rate calculation, he was running water from both the front and back yard spigots. So 7 gal/min times 2 spigots is 14 gal/min service from utility, as stated in the video. He should have calculated the flow rate for both spigots (plus the sentinel sink) and added them to be more accurate, but as a quick estimate he wasn't unreasonable. He also stated to check the flow rate you should time how long the needle on the meter takes to complete a couple revolutions.

this doesn;t clean 90% of the pipes in a home. How does the piping to the bathroom sinks, shower pipes, kitchen pipes, bath tub pipes and any other faucet that is not open and running. The filters need to be removed from each faucet head and every shower head needs to be removed.......FIRST. Then run every single faucet and outside spiggot.......

The water main is always located outside. Are you living in Wisconsin? Southern states tend to have a different indoor/outdoor setup due to weather.
