That without a doubt is the best dry fly fishing lesson I’ve ever seen. These techniques work for about any good emergence event. The best part about your videos is that you do it as really done. No casting for show or anything to be impressive. You show proper techniques in all facets of the hunt, presentation, hook set and landing the fish, complete with proper release Nicely done.

Hiya and great tobhear you connect with and enjoy as we share. The best part of fly fishing is the time on the water and immersion into the riparian environment. Right now I'm replying on an estuarine water. We came to film sea run browns slashing minnows but there are none. Instead, as I type this reply from the SE coast on New Zealand's S Island Amelia is filming 3 king fishers hunting the same minnows where we had hoped the browns would be. You just never know what's going to happen. That's where the magic clicks in. 😊🍻

You do well with your index finger, but for all flyfishing I've found using your thumb makes for a stronger cast although you really don't need a power cast when fishing a spinner fall. My agrument is that you never hammer a nail with your index finger. Your short stroke is what the doctor ordered for this type of fishing - I like to call it "tip" casting. I've found that your accuracy increases tenfold! Excellent video as are all your films.

:) The thumb vs index finger is all about adjusting to what you are actually doing and using. The index finger will almost always outperform the thumb for accuracy on short casts. Mid-range casts are a toss up as you still don't need any more power than 3 fingers on the rod to cast 50 feet. Longer than 60 feet, sure, the thumb grip will begin to shine. You nailed it when you said you don't need power during a spinner fall :) But the bigger point remains that with the grip, as in almost anything fly fishing, you adjust various variables to what you are doing and using. It's also why when people say "you can't do that on my waters" or "that won't work here or there" it's hard to reply to because... well... we aren't fishing there and would no doubt adjust things. :)

I need to ask. in the video you showed nice creek and Farmland if i'm correct. is this your propery? I see the fence but does not run down and in the creek. laws there are good? me and a friend of mine took hi canoe down thecreek yrs ago from orangeville ON. for a trip to almost Caledon area. anyway half way through catching and realease of 6inch brook trout we came across a farmers umm property which fence went right into this small creek with posts. illegal? we thought or knew this was illegal, so started taking it apart while in the creek in the canoe. then he comes out with a shotgun pointed at us and says stop that and get off my lLand! his Land???? noreply back on what you think about this. thanks and good fishin

Every country and regions within countries have different laws... some is a chain width riparian strip or high water mark public access, others have fish and game corridor agreements and others... land owners own the stream bed - best check with your local gov on that. 🍻

You mention when faced with repeated refusals you should change tippet, fly pattern, or fly size. Do you change all at once or one at a time and do you usually go with smaller tippet and which way with the fly size?

Usually if stepping down in fly size the tippet goes down a step as well. Sometimes you can get away with just the fly size but on pressured waters the tippet needs to go hand in hand. Another consideration is the suppleness / limpness of the tippet material. If it's a stiff material it will cause drag as it doesn't bend with the current. This all is more important as you get into the #16 and smaller as you go from 3, 4 to 5 or 6X. Hope that helps?

jensenflyfishing I watched this again last night except on my tv instead of my phone. Amazing!! Wonderful!! My very favorite flyfishing event is a late hatch. Mostly Caddis where I live. This put me back on the water again. For the first time in a long time I felt the rush of a dry fly take at dusk. I love how close you can be to the fish in situations like this. Just go slow and be still. Amazing how close to you fish will feed. Thanks for sharing this experience.
