Hey, I caught my first grass carp today using my fly rod and it 100% because of you and your videos. It was an awesome fight! Thank you giving me the confidence with a black wooly, longer leader and to stealthily come up on these guys. I am hooked to try it again soon! Thank you!

Congrats! Grassies are a tough fish. I’m glad this content helped encourage you to give it a shot. I’m seeing more and more people start to embrace these fish and I am loving it. Thanks letting me know. That is really a huge part of why I am doing this.

I developed the hybrid for very specific location (the Columbia river). It does seem to work everywhere, but I use it for clam eating Big C fish (though I’ve used it on Lake MI and many other locations.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I appreciate the feedback. I was actually was a panelist at the recent Jurassic Flats Carp Clave up on the Columbia and was educated somewhat more about the most famous of carp flies. On a personal note I just want to say thank you. You are one of the true pioneers of our sport and I am so grateful for what you did. I don’t think there would be many of us doing this without you. Thank you.

Maybe it’s the time of year but carp aren’t eating my flies out of the Jordan River
@carponthefly82825 ай бұрын
How are they reacting to them? Are they spooking? Typically if ai start spooking fish I will go smaller and lighter with my flies.

@@carponthefly8282 @carponthefly8282 Well after watching the video again, I am realizing you say you really can only sight fish for them which I wasn't doing. So now my plan is to start looking for backwater areas where the carp are hanging out. I'll report back!

Sorry if I missed it, but what knots do you recommend? Tippett to leader? Tippett to hook?
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
Tippet to leader I like the blood knot or triple surgeons. Tippet to hook I recommend the non slip loop knot.

My carp lakes are muddy and they are very pressured. I just throw some corn on a 20 hook and it does the job
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy Жыл бұрын
What hook specifically do you use the most? I've got a firehole 801p size 1 that is ridiculously thick! And a ton of other hooks that should work for Trout. Ive only ever bent out one hook on a trout, a size 14 umpqa u101. Looked like about a 20 inch rainbow. I still cry at night over that =) Anyway, I'm just worried that all the flies I have tied will bend out. Most are tied on a Daiichi 2461.
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
The better hook for Daiichi would be the x452. But I think you will be ok most of the time with the 2461. They are pretty strong. I don’t prefer streamer hooks for carp in general because of the leverage the fish can put on a long shank hook. Most of the time they are fine, but if you get a big fish on they can pretty easily bend out the hook. I wouldn’t worry about it too much until you start connecting a lot. Then you may want to consider some heavy wire hooks. Especially if you go to a place like Blackfoot reservoir in Idaho, most of the fish you will hook there go over 20 pounds. For Utah, 20 pounders are pretty rare. Just stay away from light wire.

Another great tutorial, thank you! I sell carp specific flies, but do not know how to post a picture of them...
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
Do you have a website or how do you market the flies now?

@@carponthefly8282 By word of mouth more than anything else. I posted my email address, but for some reason it was taken down. If this was against the rules, then my apologies.

If you haven't tried carp fly fishing, don't do it.🤪 It's an addiction. 😮
