One tip that helped me was whenever the plane is coming toward me and a wing tips down, nudge the stick in that direction and the wings will level out.

I’m looking to get into this hobby and have watched quite a few videos about first timers. This is the best advice/video I’ve seen so far. I like the way you come at it with little baby steps. Just left turns then just right turns, up /down but only in a straight line. I feel I could watch your video a few times and be confident enough to give it a go!!!! Although I’m about to buy RF9.5 first. Regards Dave North Yorkshire England

Clear easy instructions, with practical tips narrated in an easy attitude 👌. I wanted to see what "bigginer" videos were like compared to when I started out. Facing in the general direction of the plane's flight, is a great way of syncing your perceived orientation to how the plane is flying. Especially when it's approaching. Helped me wire my brain to flying naturally. Any recommendations on good current rc plane sims?

I have my students start out by flying figure eights over the field, making their turns away from the pit area. This gets them used to making both left and right turns plus they won't accidentally fly over the pit area if they can't finish the turn before crossing over the runway. Also, when the plane is flying toward them, I don't have them look over their shoulder. I have them face the plane, move the aileron stick toward the low wingtip and say, "Get up wingtip". This method also works when the wings are level. Just move the stick toward the tip that you want to raise. It also will work later on when they're flying inverted toward themselves. I don't really think left or right when flying toward myself.

The best way to learn is in real life for several reasons. 1. It teaches you how to work with the plane, put it together, install the battery, what battery to use, etc. 2. It is easier to see how far away the plane is. 3. It teaches you how to fix the plane when you crash.

I had Phoenix but I may get Real Flight. Phoenix isn't supported anymore and likely because it uses a real transmitter. It was a real battery hog. I'd rather have a controller powered by USB even if it's not an actual controller. Great suggestions on using a simulator. I spent a lot of time on mine before I bought my plane and it saved me a lot of time spent repairing planes.

I'm new to the hobby. I'm glad that I found this video and channel. I'm so glad that I waited for my adapter and software before trying to fly. Just got everything setup on my computer today and have spent maybe 15 minutes on Phoenix. I'm loving it. I wrecked probably 5 times in first 2 minutes. I'm glad I decided to invest in a simulator. There really isn't any rc groups local to me where I'm located in Ohio. Are you still making videos? From what I can see you haven't made any new videos in over a year.

I don't recommend using a computer to learn to fly a REAL R/C plane. VERY different experiences. I recommend the Apprentice STS, with the SPMA3173 GPS module, and the SPMA3180 Landing Assist Sensor module. These will make the plane virtually crash proof. You can set up a GPS fence to prevent the plane from flying out of the range of the transmitter and crashing. It gives you a "hands off" mode, so that if you do get disoriented, and you will, just flip a switch on the transmitter, and the plane will go into a GPS controlled "holding pattern" where it just flies in circles until you take control of it again. It also gives you the ability to actually have the plane land itself at the same place it took off from. All these functions are available anytime you feel like you might lose control, and can save a nearly $500 airplane. With them, you can practice whatever you want, and if you start to lose control, flip the switch, and the plane will level itself out and go into the holding pattern. If you are a beginner, DO NOT try to learn to fly without these safeguards.

But sometimes if you allow it to glide when landing, wind can get in its way and blow it which can result to a nosedive in some situations, you can let the throttle be low and slowly land. (Only if your rc plane is light)

Thanks for the video. I came here looking for a basic tutorial for beginners on what all the sticks do in relation to plane movement. I was hoping for something extremely basic like what direction to move aileron sticks for turns so I had to carefully watch what the plane was doing in relationship to the sticks. What I surmise, is right hand turns are simply accomplished through moving right aileron stick to right, and left for left turns. Do you have a video that goes through these even more basic concepts?
