The pilot/instructor is played by the actor James Seay, who would appear in over 200 movies and tv programs from 1939 to 1971.

Really appreciate the footage. I have this very plane in my next novel and I needed to know how someone got in it...

Nice training video. Also very helpful for IL2 Battle of Kuban - sincerely a chump who took off with his upper cowl flaps open.

At first the USAAF did not think much of the A20 it was used as a giveaway to the Brits and the Russins but when they gave it such marks in theirs reviews the USAAF changed there minds about this baby

Early A-20G used in the video, interesting in the film about not turning into the dead engine, experienced RAF and RAAF Boston pilots used to demonstrate turning into a dead engine and doing a circuit around an airfield like that, obviously not for beginners.

It was designed primarily as a light bomber. I'm glad this video points out to NOT attempt to try acrobatic maneuvers that would stress the airframe. Doesn't matter that it was a bit of a hotrod. It ain't a fighter.

I was fine when I first watched this. Very understandable. Then I watched it again with CC turned on. Now after references to The Chipmunks and scratching the heads of Minutemen, I don't know WTF is going on...

Hi Rick, the aircraft is in the beginning of my novel about a rich and powerful producer in Hollywood who loses his entire family in a car accident. The A-20 is hanging from the ceiling of a large party room in his mansion. To get him and another character into it I needed to know some basics about the plane and I found this video invaluable.

I thought the A-20 would be fully aerobatic? so it sounds like its g limited. no vertical banks, no sharp pull ups. so no loops, rolls, stall turns etc? were Tupolev Tu-2 and Petlyakov Pe-2 equally limited in aerobatics? Even the P-61 Black Widow and Bf-110 were fully aerobatic. I thought the A-20 was in their class? speed is similar. cool plane tho.
@frederickkruse48159 жыл бұрын
+nick goth Not sure the A20 was intended to be truly comparable to the P61 or bf110. They were designed as fighters. The A20 was primarily alight bomber. It had a bomb bay unlike the other two-- lots more weight to lug around.
@nickspoetrybooks9 жыл бұрын
+Frederick Kruse think the P-61 was even larger and heavier and also faster and more powerful than the A20, a class of aircraft up maybe? so i'm interested there how both compare flying wise. i'd guess the Bf110 is a class under as its lighter. but say a A20 with half fuel and only pilot, i think it would be quite agile...
