Yes ! Lol. My sister took her dog with 'em to a car wash just a couple of days ago, she videoed it ,where I could see how terrified she was ! Poor thing ! But ,that trick of your might be effective for those flying with their dogs & cats ! But ,I am not really o.k.with dogs & cats flying or even travelling in cars so on as it's very stressful to them !! Especially cats !! So ,unless absolutely necessary, people shouldn't ! There have been too many cases of tragedies that took dogs 's & cat's lives on planes as well !! Unless they can put their dogs& cats in passenger seats ,or checked bag areas ,they shouldn't !! 💜🥁🎵🐉🎤🎶🐾💕💞

I recently flew to Europe from Canada with my service dog Skidboot. It was Skid’s first time flying and we had three flights each way. The entire trip including layovers was 24 hours. Here are some things I did to prepare him for the trip (there was a lot more that is specific for service dogs) as well as some of the things I brought for him. - lots of rides in various vehicles (trucks, cars, quads, golf carts) over various terrain (bumpy rides) - several train and bus rides - getting him used to the sight and sound of golf carts as you will come across them at airports - getting him used to the feel of riding in elevators - visit airport beforehand so the dog can get used to the noise and sounds and smells - getting the dog used to suitcases being pulled and dropped on the ground - exposure to people in uniforms - exposure to loud equipment/machines/vehicles - it’s also a good idea to teach your dog to go potty on command on a potty pad (some airports don’t have pet relief areas or they are so disgusting that the dog doesn’t want to use them). In Europe, pet relief areas are almost all the time outside the secure area. - make sure your dog has a solid sit/stay and recall for going through security - make sure your dog is comfortable being touched by strangers as the dog may get patted down by a security officer if you choose to leave his gear on - getting him used to all kinds of noises, e.g. jet/turbo engines starting up, plane taking off, PA announcements, sounds of a busy airport, sounds of people going through security) by playing sounds from KZbin over speaker at increasing volume - withhold food and water before the flight. - bring an extra empty water bottle for your dog that you can fill up after going through security as well as a collapsible water bowl; ice cubes are another option - bring high-value treats (make sure he’s used to them to prevent stomach upset) - dry kibble (amount depends on the length of your trip, but I would say at least 2 days worth for an international trip) and collapsible feed bowl (in case you get stranded somewhere due to cancellation or delay) - bring his favourite toy (non squeaky or silent squeaker), a chew stick (non-smelly) - bring paper towels, wipes, disposable gloves, potty pads in a Ziploc bag to clean up in case of an accident - talk to your vet about giving him something to prevent an upset tummy - original copies of health papers (good idea to have copies with you as well and/or keep on phone) - bring an extra collar and extra leash in case something breaks - check with customs re. bringing dog food, treats into the country you are flying to

I've flown many times domestically with my dogs. The best pet carrier is the Sturdi bag. It has stays that arch across the top so the bag doesn't collapse on the dog, but the stays can squish down to where you can shove the bag under the seat in front of you. I keep a small ziploc with treats in the carrier so that if I need to take him out and put him back in the bag mid trip, I have treats to reward him. I can also reward him any time for good behavior. I've also found that it varies greatly from airport to airport and flight/gate attendant to attendant as to if your dog is allowed out of the carrier to walk vs. being in the bag. I've had a tsa person yell at me for having my dog out, even though 10 feet from where I stood I was going to have to take him out to walk through security check. It just depends on who is working that day. In my carry on, I try to carry stuff that I need for the trip for my dog and check my own things because my items are easier to replace. An empty collapsible water dish is handy for when you arrive at the destination airport to give the dog a drink, and pop up crates/tents fit great in carry on bags. I do always get a health certificate from my vet every time I fly, but I've never once been asked to see it. The best story I have about flying with my dog is when we landed I carefully picked up my dog carrier and put it in my lap. An older lady sitting next to me was surprised that I had a dog in there. She said she thought I was talking to myself throughout the flight! LOL!

PLEASE HELP!!! I too have the Sturdi Bag that I will be using for the first time on Feb. 3, 2021. I am moving and purchased the bag 3 months ago for my 5yr old Maltese Cocker Spaniel. I also purchased the K9 Sport Sack to carry my dog on my back instead of by hand, on my arm, or pulling. We are flying Delta. My dog is used to the crate/kennel but he whines A LOT when we get in a moving vehicle. When I had my car, I had seatbelts for my dog so he was never boxed in (I like for my dog to be as free as possible). I consulted with his vet, received meds for him and did a test run in an Uber to my mother’s house. As my dog was a little woozy, he still managed to whine in the Uber until I took him out of the bag. My dog is an ESA dog however, as of Jan. 11,2021 ESAs are no longer recognized on flights. I say all of that to ask...how do I get my dog to stop whining while crated to avoid disrupting other passengers????

@@Navi405 its been a bit so you've probably already gotten an answer, but a border collie most likely wouldn't be able to fit under the seat in front of you. Most airlines require the crate to be no larger that 18×11×11ish and that's barely enough room for my 20lb chihuahua mix. It's also very hard to find carriers that meet those dementions that can hold more than 15 or 20 lbs

Thank you for all the tips! It is helpful to be prepared! I've flown many times with my Chi-mix. The best thing I can do to keep her calm, is to remain calm myself. She picks up on when my breathing or expression changes. It reminds me to calm down & breathe deeper. Also, I unzip the carrier top slightly, so she knows she isn't trapped. She is fine as long as she maintains some eye contact with me. They love to be with their peeps!

Another training tip- once you land and get your luggage you may want to attach your pup’s container to your luggage (like you would a carry on bag) and roll. Practice that at home, and going up the street with all the vibration that concrete/asphalt creates as you roll.

I don’t know about Delta, but for American Airlines, they say (and you can’t speed-read or you’ll miss it) that the size listed is for a hard-sided carrier. Because a soft-sided carrier can compress, those dimensions don’t have to be the same. Basically, I think what they are saying is that the dimensions listed are the actual dimensions of the under seat space.

Mine has on the side two wings that fold out like a pup tent for when you are sitting and waiting so your pet can stretch out a little. When your ready you fold the wings back in and zip them up. There is also the material on the side so you can slip it securely over the carry on handle when it is extended. My bag fits exactly on top of the carry on bag to and it is the size requirement the airlines require as well. There is a really size pocket on the back to. I hope this helps.

I missed seeing your videos--welcome back! Question--when you said you have to take off the dog's harness and collar and walk him through the security area, how did you keep him from not staying with you, or is it a very short time period? My dog has never been on a plane and is 13. How much does your dog weigh? Mine is 15 lbs. I think it's so much easier to train them when they're puppies to be in a carrier than start with an older dog. We leave ours with my son for a short vacation, otherwise we drive. Love this video and your puppy is adorable!

I really don't want to do it again because he was so heavy lol. He was 15 so maybe 20 lbs at full size? I'm looking into the Rover app for doggie sitting while we travel. Some let you leave them at their house. Thanks for watching!

TravelTipsbyLaurie The rover app is great. We have a dog sitter we use all the time. She loves him and lets him sleep on her bed. Our dog is used to going there and gets to play with the other dogs, so it’s kind of like doggy camp for him.

You do not have to take your dog's gear off, but if you choose to leave it on, the dog will get a pat-down (in US and Europe) or visual inspection (in Canada).

You're very in tune with your pet. Very smart pet owner. And thank you for this video. I'll be traveling with my little doggy soon. .first time. So this guide is helpful. I'm thinking of getting the backpack version of tsa approved pet carrier. Is there such thing as ear muffs for dogs? I'm thinking if my doggy wore a noise cancelling ear cover would reduce his barking. My little guy is a chihuahua and wouldn't want him making other passengers uncomfortable or him. Thanks.

If he's super comfy wearing that, do it. I really think the mild drugs his vet prescribed according to his weight helped.

I've never traveled with a pet so am totally ignorant about it. In your travel tip #10 you said to pack few items in your personal item bag because less leg room." It looked like a backpack so couldn't you put it in overhead storage bins rather than at your feet? Thank you so much for your very helpful video (I now have a small-ish dog--17 lbs--and if I want to go anywhere I'll need to take her with me so I'm gathering all the info I can find.

Hello just want to thank you for all the information you've provided much appreciate. I do have a question. I plan to bring my dog which is a yorkshire terrior weighing 6.5lbs to St Martin's. Flying united airlines. As I understand he's to be in a carrier underneath the seat in front of me. My question is can united airlines the airline stewardest ask me to leave the plane if my dog won't stop crying. Thank you

Hi yay! No they cannot ask you to do that. I highly recommend chill pill from your vet based on his weight. It takes the edge off so they’re not petrified.

Hi, in 2018 my kids and me traveled to Italy with two cats!! A great guy/vet told them exactly how to deal with the “emigration”, with getting the pets used to the cages, plus eating a “relaxing” cat food 2 weeks before. Also he suggested that having a familiar-smelly item (an old t-shirt...) inside the bags would help. Very interesting to know that a cat can live without food or water for three days, so 13 hours on the plane was not the biggest deal.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie5 жыл бұрын
Wow, I never knew that. We asked for a private screening room for our cat when we moved to Houston. I love the idea of a stuffed animal or shirt too. Thanks for watching!

I’d also ask about benedryl dosing for your size dog. If you travel from say, a heavily forested area to say, a desert; the dog may have unknown allergies to the environment. And maybe bring some blister packs of allergy meds just in case someone sitting near you is allergic to dander and no one is willing to trade seats.

Hi, new follower here. Do you mind a more in depth segment regarding TSA. I’m a little confused as to how you’re suppose to go about it. I’ve heard that your dogs has to walk to you without a leash which seems incredibly scary. I’m flying with my 11 pound dog next month and I’m trying to piece as much as information as possible. Thanks I’m advanced.

Stephanie, I wrote out a whole comment and I don't think it sent. I held my dog when I went through. You can google your airline and dog requirements. In security you can always ask (even without your dog) for a private pat down. I did that with my cat 5 years ago. Easy! But you will be patted down, but multiple officers are in there fyi. I would also download the MyTSA app because there's a super easy way to ask them questions on it. Hope this helps; have a snuggly time!!!

Try traveling with 2 cats! I moved from Virginia to Florida a few years ago. Had to have my sister fly up and back with me to handle one of the cats. I was scared my cats would surpass the weight restrictions (they just squeaked by). I was really petrified about having to take them out of their carrier and take their collars off. Can you imagine if a cat gets lose in an airport ? Fortunately everything worked out ok and they were little angels in the plane.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie5 жыл бұрын
Barbara, same for us when we moved to Houston; but then I read you can request a private screening room. Did you hear about the hairless cat that got loose a few years ago? I would think I'd never see ours again if that happened. But they found him. Thanks for watching!

Thought I would give an update that might put some cat-travelers at ease. Two weeks ago I flew to SLC (round trip, in one day🥴) to pick up my son’s cat (long story). I downloaded the TSA app as well as the app for my airline. I had lots of questions that seemed to multiply as the trip got closer - it was sooooo easy to chat (plus, I took screen shots of my Q&A’s in case I needed to reference them)! I was about as informed as I could be. At TSA, I requested a private screening. Now, granted, my experience at SLC (Salt Lake City) may not be an example of all airports, but going through TSA was a breeze! I won’t go into details, but to say that it was a very positive experience. The only issue - the poor TSA agent who had to screen my backpack….. I packed a zip-lock of kitty litter, and yes, because it was a “powder” it had to be swabbed. Poor guy….but he had a wonderful attitude❣️ One thing to keep in mind, traveling with pets…… My airline counted the pet carrier as my “carry-on” item, so I had to check my roller bag. That meant I had to carry a 20# cat (cat plus carrier) through the airport rather than use my carry-on as a trolly. That was brutal, as the new SLC airport requires a lot of walking! I had tight connections, so had to hustle.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie3 жыл бұрын
Ooh I bet that was wonderful. Yes, we also have to check our airline for pet requirements too. Thanks. Sorry for the delay.
