00:03 - Focus is essential for founders to succeed amidst distractions. 02:13 - Complexity often disguises itself as focus in organizational settings. 04:05 - Founders can significantly impact sales by focusing on key relationships. 06:11 - Focus on key priorities for successful delegation and startup progress. 08:09 - Focus on clear priorities to avoid complicated decision-making. 10:07 - Focus on building products people love instead of getting sidetracked. 12:01 - Reflecting can help founders focus on important goals for the new year. 14:05 - Clear communication indicates effective problem-solving in business. 16:10 - Focusing on customer needs simplifies problem-solving.

Focus is key. Saying no to distractions is how I’ve found I can unlock focus. Also in startups it’s hard to determine what to focus on - the get a product and get a customer is the objective and easy to define. Knowing how to deliver that and what to focus on is the hard bit where you can get lost down rabbit holes and resource drains.

Perfect time for this to come out. Going to take this time to reflect on goals. Glad that it was said that this time of year is for companies to recharge… definitely saving that bit for future use. Cheers.

4:24 - that sounds like one sole thing then since: 1- Vision (*and the ability to communicate it to your team) 2- Fundraising ( this is just vision communicated to investors) 3- Hire great talent ( this is just vision communicated to candidates, & to the public to attract said candidates.) It's all vision + comms.

I’m going to proffer a different take on Focus. I would say many founders (more than we or they realise) are ADHD or more specifically the ADD part. This is the initial strength that allows them (I’ll include myself here) to be innovative and intensively creative with ideas for the startup… but that same strength becomes a challenge when we need to focus.. so as typical with ADD, we can’t focus unless we hyper focus. I think this is why a co-founder or co-ceo or co-cto in my view allow better stability and overall I focus and growth :) Hope that makes sense 🙏
@SSSS7-p8f17 күн бұрын
I disagree with this. personally I have severe ADHD but I am very very strategic - therefore being able to focus and prioritise and be ruthless come very easy to me.
@stevemetlitzky923017 күн бұрын
Fair enough - being ADHD myself I find it makes me enormously creative and innovative with ideas etc but extremely challenging to focus day to day .. then running out of time I finally hyper focus and get huge amounts of work done in a very short time. That’s why for me at least (and I believe many others) if we can find that partner or co-founder who complements us is the best mix. Just my 2c :)

I think First you need to develop the Big Gameplan or the End game & then You really just need to double down on tiny steps along the way & Follow the Feedback loop, like: Strategy➡Inputs➡Outputs➡Feedback Rinse & Repeat until Goal achived. ♻ like It's all about ROI or 80/20 rule.

I watched this through. Overall, I think it was disappointing because it felt like a one size fits all discussion. One good point Dalton made was how important it is to define and understand the goal to work toward it. I think one thing Michael said we wish was true, but is not necessarily true is that focus is winning. Focus is how you get things done, but getting things done is not always rewarded.
